I can see how “comfort” can come when a video tells you that “nothing in life really matters”. So whatever you choose to do doesn’t matter. Which is false. Life DOES matter. And what you do or do not do matters. Saying that nothing matters is avoiding responsibility. Even though at the end they say enjoy the ride, how can you enjoy it if nothing matters? If it doesn’t matter it has no value, no meaning, no purpose. “Nothing in life really matters” is a false statement and only brings false security and comfort.

The only word I could possibly think of to describe ego death is ineffable. It was terrifying but also the most incredible experience there is. It really is like you said, like your save file in a game gets corrupted or deleted, but you're still in the game. It's experiencing death without dying.
@somethingclever62644 жыл бұрын
I tried LSD once, during which I had a conversation with the universe. The experience was profound in a way that words simply cannot describe, but it was a conversation that took place without language. It was more of a free exchange of information, perhaps like what might take place between two networked devices, and the overall message was brilliantly clear. I came away from the experience with an understanding that I, regardless of my comprehension, as well as everyone and everything else, AM/ARE the universe. That's a big thing to wrap my head around, but I was shown vast pitch black voids and ephemeral clouds of star nurseries, galaxies, solar systems, planets and everything down to the dust floating across the room, and it was all a single organism. For a time, I didn't exist (not as you or I would be able to define), it was my essence, or some fundamental aspect of my being that was gently held and shown what's behind the curtain. What I took away from the experience has been mostly lost to time and stubbornly repeating stupid patterns of behavior for the sake of my own gratification, but I've yet to ever completely discard the feeling that whatever may happen, ultimately it doesn't matter, and eventually everything will be okay, or at least not worth stressing over. The bliss that some people claim to find in their religion, the perfect and innocent joy of youth, the absolute and unconditional love that a parent feels (normally anyway) for their newborn baby, this was like what I found the universe to have for itself and all of its aspects. It was an intense and unquestionable love, but it was also simultaneously a perfect oblivion of apathy. It was something akin to how christians like to describe their god as a being of love, and yet for all of its depth of care, won't so much as lift a finger to help anyone or anything. Everything's great, and it doesn't matter in the slightest one way or the other. We're here to forge our own purpose, discover meaning for our experiences within ourselves, help one another when it suits us, or have as much fun as possible being as absolutely evil as we can manage. The path doesn't matter, neither does the destination, I suppose the only thing that matters is that you enjoy yourself along the way.

"We are One." has more meaning and implications than one would initially be led to believe. I think I had a somewhat similar experience with acid in which I felt deeply connected to everything and that we are all just part of and are ones with the Universe - which probably is much much bigger in size and in other dimensions of existence than science has discovered so far (which may encompass other possibly infinite Universes and even higher spiritual dimensions that could be related to the extra dimensions about which physicists have been theorizing). I felt deep empathy and profound love for this infinitely complex character and its history, this character being the Universe itself, the Existence, God. We are just tiny humble parts of Him and His conscience. This trip and those kinds of realizations changed my life and understanding of Reality in ways that can't be completely explained by words. Life is great and the Existence of everything, of every great, great Being, of every sentient being and of every being is awesome and we should really be profoundly grateful for it!

The opening premise made me question this guy's self-awareness. No way to know if any animals are conscious or function the same way you do? It depends on what you mean in the same way and what you mean by conscious. That statement is overtly ambiguous. If by conscious you mean self-aware then yes there are many at this point. To the level of humans? Not as far as I am aware. Cat, Dogs, Dolphins, whales, many apes, some insects, many birds, The octopus, sea otter, Seal, sealion can all recognize the difference between their own reflection and video of another animal of their own species, even when they look nearly identical, under different circumstances. The octopus, sea otter, many apes, Cats, Dogs, seals, dolphins, whales, alligators, badgers, sea lions, many birds, and much more have demonstrated the ability to figure out simple puzzles given the right motivations. Badgers bury the dead, often when it is not even a dead badger. This is because they figured out not doing so means a higher number of badgers get sick. The octopus, dolphins, Sea otters, whales, Crows, Ravens, Owls are all species that have been known to make and use simple tools. On the level of sharpening a rock, stick or shell and removing inconvenient parts. So, in short very primitive. That being said that is the level many parts of humankind were at not even 5,000 years ago. That is out of 2.5 million years of human history mind you. Nearly every animal and most plants have demonstrated the ability to recognize a threat and/or predator and based on no more than 1 factor. Also to be able to differentiate such threats from non-threats with nearly identical but different factors. Such as sound, sight, color, location etc. Such associations have been found to be enforced with more than one concurrent factor. This means most animals and even some plants are capable of recognizing patterns and reacting to them accordingly. Such animals may, given proper circumstances, act to deal with the entire pattern. Just One example is an animal reserve where there was an endangered species and the crows and ravens liked the taste of the eggs. So the reserve in response took eggs that were made to taste unpleasant, and took measures to make them outwardly identical. They went as far as to mix the unpalatable eggs with the actual eggs to stop them from eating them. The result; The crows communicated with other crows who were not even the crows who encountered the eggs and any similar eggs over an area the size of the entire state of Texas, crows stopped eating the eggs. The result with the ravens was not so positive. The raven population figured out that only the eggs in the area of the animal reserve would be unpleasant for consumption. Within a month, the ravens would take the eggs only in the area of the animal reserve, and actively destroy them, to keep other ravens from eating them by mistake. An example of plants recognizing such things is that a plant whose main predator is a caterpillar; They were shown to be able to recognize the sound of caterpillars chewing on, plants even when they were not the same plants. When hearing the chewing of a caterpillar they would release a chemical that makes them unpalatable to caterpillars. They were shown to be able to differentiate between the caterpillar and similar sounds. The chemicals were not released with the sound of wind rustling hand-picked to be as similar to the chewing as possible. In fact, there were no less than 63 different similar sounds played. The only one that got a similar response was the sound of plants burning. When there was the sound of plants burning played, they released an entirely different chemical. Some whales, dolphins, apes, wild dogs and wild cats, and birds have been shown to be able to cooperate to solve problems that they can not solve on their own including but not limited to Killer whales working together to successfully hunt blue whales, who are so big they were thought to have not one predator. They do this by taking turns for upwards of 8 hours body slamming the whale so it can not surface. Seeing as whales are mammals they need air. Thus, it effectively drowns the blue whale. Crows, Ravens, And octopuses have been found to be able to figure out complex puzzles, simply by watching others. They are better at doing it than some humans. There have been a number of recorded instances, where Crows, Ravens, and Octopuses have used this skill to let themselves out of their own cages when in captivity. As a Direct result, aquariums often give Octopuses lots of toys so they don't get bored. They will often also make the mechanism for opening the enclosure overly complex or require an external complex tool to open. Mainly just so the Octopuses don't open the cage and just leave because they can survive out of water for quite a while given the correct circumstances. Their ability for this skill has led to a number of times, where an octopus has gotten bored enough, they let themselves out and tried to return to the ocean. This has happened, more than once successfully. A prime example is; "An octopus at New Zealand's National Aquarium made a break for freedom by slipping out of its tank, slithering down a drainpipe, and escaping into the ocean in 2016." This is nearly word for word of the official report's headline. The Octopus in question even waited until after dark during a shift change. It also determined which drainage pipe would lead to the ocean. That is a prison break very reminiscent of movie prison breaks. I mean, if the prisons were aquariums and the prisoner was an octopus. "Can't tell if any animals are conscious or if any animal would or could function like we do" Welp, that is solely due to how vague that sentence is. A number of animals are on the same level, some of the most primitive human civilizations from not even 5000 years ago were, at the present moment. That being said this is depending on the metric you are using to measure. Do keep in mind if you exclude all human evolutions that were more ape than man humans have had 2.5 million years of history.

This is possibly one of the best factual youtube videos i have watched in a very long time. I recently obtained a diploma in psychology and i have to admit, it has changed my outlook on life. I became interested in psychology mainly through lucid dreaming, which is something i can now do quite regularly, when i put my mind to it. The consciousness is a strange beast, but the subconscious is even more incredible and and bizarre. I used to do a lot of LSD in the 90s, but i never had a true ego death until around 1997, which was m first time taking henbane. I had far too much, and i spent god knows how long just being a spectator, not judging anything, it was like the perfect meditation by the end of it. It could have been a bad trip had i not been familiar with hallucinogenics previously, but as reality slipped away, another reality presented itself and i have never attained that alternate reality again. I found myself saying "yes!" so many times watching this video, that quote from Alan Watts is one of my favourites, and also that line "energy never dies..." i have used that since the 1990s as well. If anyone is hungry for more, i highly suggest Alan Watts's The Nature Of Consciousness II. Thank you for this video, it is appreciated so much! Stay safe!

Every video, this man finds a new way to describe what I cannot. Even though he has no idea that I even exist it’s, he’s speaking directly to me, digging into my thoughts and pulling out the awareness in my mind that I am unable to convey properly. To have this level of clarity is admirable, and to be able to pull ones innermost thoughts out with just a few words is amazing in its own right. I think I've experienced ego-death twice. It was a real experience and I really felt disconnected from everything around me. The first time something really really weird happened! I was just sitting there when suddenly I got a feeling as if gravity was changing direction, it's hard to describe but it actually made me flinch in the chair I was sitting in. Almost as when you're falling asleep and your brain thinks you're falling so you wake up. That took me out of the ego-death. I asked the person next to me if they had felt something but it was all fabricated in my mind. It brought me back...

@matt_thaxton37754 жыл бұрын
davood oh “drugs” is a pretty wide generalization. ofc you shouldn’t do meth or heroin, but shrooms are all-natural, non-toxic, and non-addictive. in fact, lots of medical research from the past few decades has provided evidence that shrooms (and other psychedelics) actually reverse addiction, and can help you quit cigarettes or other addictive substances. the main danger is it being laced with something else, which is basically impossible since it’s literally a mushroom.

Its not just them. Plato, the earliest Christians and their mystics (especially hysechasm and the views of the Quakers as well), and even in Islam with the concepts found in the teachings of Ibn 'Arabi and also Sufism, all share the same thoughts and ideas laid out here. Its like anyone who seeks what is true with a pure heart simply to know truth cannot help but come to the same conclusions, despite describing the same experiences through different cultural lenses throughout history. Col. 3:10-11 "Put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all."

ego death is scary, I've formed thoughts similar to this guy and experiencing ego death is one of the lonliest things to feel. It's scary and feels endless; whatever you do to find comfort normally never works. The body you were in abandons you as well and are left in a third person view of your world. People don't really talk about ego death as much but it's a real experience that can either help with growth or stagnate it.

Nice Choice I feel like it helps BECAUSE it’s scary. Nobody WANTS that to happen constantly unless you’re bat-shit mental, but having it happen once or a limited amount of times could really humble someone. The experience they have could be eye opening in any way, such as spiritually, mentally, or socially. I’ve never experienced it once or have done any psychedelic, but I hope to have changed those by the end of my life. I figure shit, once I die, that’s it. Lights out, no more, take it easy. So, might as well get lit while the candle still got some wick.

Hi all, I just want to say I love you to all my fellow stardusts. It took us billions of years of journey to experience this planet. Our lives as humans may be difficult, but it’s still a fun ride. If you experience fear, pain, sadness, or agony right now, remember that we are the universe trying to experience and make sense of its own self. It can be chaotic often times and sometimes it’s very blissful. Remember that you were never alone even before you were born. I, you and we are one. We are the universe. You are the universe. I really needed this. Today I had a talk with my therapist about the meaninglessness of life and my lack of purpose which has resulted in me being inert. I've basically found that "not doing anything" results in "calmness" then immediately transforms into "nothingness", basically a situation in which the problem and the solution are interchangebale and therefore, a loop is created and I get stuck in it. This video, specially when you reminded me of the fact that energy is never destroyed and that our consciousness decieves us otherwise, it actually made my heart shiver, in a very good way. It was like a rediscovered sense of "I'll not disappear" which you continued to then say that actually the "I" does disappear, but you as an entity will remain as a part of the greater mystery that we call "life". Baruch Espinosa's ideas come to mind; those that were explained in "The Story of Philosophy" by Will Durant. Thanks so much, you beautiful piece of calming Life!

This is the most beautiful video I have ever seen. There are no words to describe the utter love and light that comes from an ego death experience, I had 2 years ago, and sincerely, the return to it without the use of any substance is just as difficult as life itself, learning to overcome ego, to live the life as the observer, as the non-doer and as the doer at the same time is not something that the mind can understand. But watching this video brought myself back to it, to the Source, to Reality, I was seeing and listening to myself at that moment, and this sense of Oneness is just the most beautiful and sublime experience any being can have. Thank you so much, from all Love.

These ideas are so interesting, fundamental, and pervasive. They're so fundamental that notions very similar to these can be found in texts thousands of years old, many of them written by people who may have also been influenced by psychedelics. The more esoteric sects of many religions have thinkers who have written these ideas for millennia, and here we are listening to them today in a more modern format. Even science, which is still commonly believed to be incompatible with these ideas, has given us new perspectives on them and, in a way, strengthened them. Maybe their timelessness is a testament to their accuracy. That's all for my rambling; I wish for prosperity for all fellow reality-explorers and truth seekers out there!

This is essentially the Hindu philosophy of Advaita Vedānta. According to Advaita, the same Divine Consciousness manifests as both insentient and sentient beings. Since God is everywhere, we should strive to treat all sentient beings with respect and love. Additionally, it is very probable that many paths can lead us to the truth. This was the philosophy of both Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda. It also influenced Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the Architect of Modern India. Im only now starting to comprehend the diality of consciousness. The universal application of duality that defines the relationship of everything in inner and outer space. Quantum physics i.e Super position that is being in a state relevant to observation and understanding that the opposite of that form exists simultaneously anywhere else in the universe. So whatever youre are experiencing in consciousness at a given moment is being experienced in relative context,however ,in the opposing realm of possibilities .You may opt for ego death from your perspective but that will only satiate an ego elsewhere. The ego is a constant.

@Albino Cake I would call it a creator (of the system). I think God is attached at the hip to religion because of their concept of a being who not only created you (your parents come together to create you), but is also a judge of whether you enter *eternal* hell or heaven. I don't believe in an eternal afterlife, because I'm here at this specific moment and not in either hell or heaven, only aged 19 years. We are creators, and I find myself thanking whatever entity that started the system for giving us this beautiful life and ability, but not everybody comes into a life where they can see this beauty.. Imagine a child who grew up with narcissistic parents that were incapable of loving or teaching him/her. These are often the kids that grow up cold, dark, depressed and toxic. Now imagine that kid goes and causes turmoil for others or takes lives, I would say that the child's upbringing wired their brains a certain way that allowed or bred these problems..So would these children be judged eternally for these things that essentially they had no control over? Because this is where the "evil" in the world stems from. We are whatever our environment is.

There has to be consciousness after death as well, energy created is never destroyed and what would be the point of experiencing anything if nothing is ever gain but just deleted each time.

I think consciousness and the universe itself are so mend bendingly strange that some form of consciousness after death seems pretty plausible, I don’t believe in any religion but I know there’s so much about the universe we could never comprehend as humans

NinjaInPajamas yeah same I don’t believe in religion but there’s way more to life after we die it’s going back to consciousness, death is the biggest illusion.

We are Sovereign Divine Beings of Light, ONE with the Universe/All That IS! We are Holographic, Multidimensional aspects of God/All That IS! Separation is an Illusion! We as Divine Beings of Light creating our reality! There is no beginning and no ending, there is just the ISNESS of Life, all happening in the Eternal NOW! We choose to forget who we are when we come into this earth reality to have the experience of duality of separateness. 🌹🙏💖

How about we are everything and nothing all at the same time. We are trillions of atoms vibrating at five hundred billion times a second. Technically we are here nor there always in between states. Ego is evolution - Desiring. People just try to put labels on what can be desired and what cannot be. Take away the desire - take away the evolution that has been given. We are all individual frequencies of this vast energy system and all have unlimited ways to teach consciousness itself. All aspects of learning are valid. All aspects of feelings are valid all aspects of emotions are valid. How about you are just valid. Just am...

Even if you prepare for it your still not prepared lol. I prepared for about 5 years before I decided to take it. Completely changed my life. I was doing really bad stuff to people from robbing drug dealers to pimping. Dmt completely changed my mindset and made me feel more love towards people and not to fear death

I wish I had human words to fully describe how this video made me feel.. it was enlightening, terrifying but calming, hopeful yet sad, and makes me wonder what the point of having an ego even is if it just blinds us to want we really are? Our ego forces us to worry and think only of ourselves.. kinda selfish if you think about it. If losing our ego is so liberating, why have it ya know? Idk just thinking out loud.. great video!

The ego is like a curtain we have surrounded ourselves with, that blocks the light from outside, and those who are courageous and curious enough to take a peak of what is outside of the curtain realize the curtain was an illusion to begin with. The ego is like the shell around a seed, that is meant to be broken when planted in right soil, and of which the seed can never grow up into what it is supposed to be unless it breaks out of the shell that surrounds it. I said this to someone earlier on in the comments, but I think it appropriately applies here too. We have to experience what is not-us to be able to have a truly deep sense of what is us. One must be ignorant first in order to appreciate the journey to Wisdom. If you knew how the game ended with certainty, then it takes away the pursuit of the answers, of which give meaning and purpose to life. If we exist truly to experience and learn what we really are, then it makes sense that there is the ignorance at how it ends, since the anxiety caused by that ignorance becomes the motivation to seek the answers in the first place, relieving the anxiety. So then, what should we make of these things? Even anxiety works for our good, serving its function, but when the function is over, there is nothing left for it but to be eliminated.

What taught me this? Psychedelics. As cheesy as it sounds, all the substances do is take away your sense of self, and when you do that you unify with the collective consciousness of EVERYTHING. You are this whole universe, you are everything.
