Stevie has always had a close bond with her baby brother and has helped mum ZeeZee care for the baby chimp since he was born, Stevie was often seen in the first weeks after Baby Jeff was born carrying him around chimp island Experience mum ZeeZee was happy to let Stevie have some responsibility with raising the baby brother and in doing so has been helping Stevie gain experience of motherhood for if she becomes a mother herself. This strong family relationship is especially amongst chimpanzees and how they teach young chimps much needed skill to raise families of their own
Baby Jeff is such a little cutie, and he is growing in strength and confidence by the day, Stevie is certainly helping him with this.
The whole chimpanzee troop have a role in watching out for the little baby chimp and some Adult female chimps play a bigger role in helping mum ZeeZee raise him, especially Pattie and Sally who are often seen with Jeff and taking him back when the younger chimps Stevie and Annie run off with him or are playing a little too rough with him

There are currently as of 2023, 20 chimps in 2 seperate chimp groups at Chester Zoo consisting of 7 Males and 13 Females The oldest is Boris at 56 years old Born 1966 and the youngest is Jeff who was Born in December 2022
Most of the chimps at Chester Zoo, have appeared in the popular nature documentary series, shown on TV called The Secret Life Of The Zoo.
This animal documentary series was first aired on TV in 2016 and has run for 10 seasons from 2016 - 2021

Stevie has really stepped up to the mark and takes looking after Jeff seriously, she has really matured. Dylan and Carlos do seem to be well balanced at the moment.

It’s wonderful watching this type of natural behavior in captive apes. Stevie is doing exactly what she would do in the wild, helping mom ZeeZee care for her baby brother. This not only increases their sibling bond but also helps Stevie hone her parenting skills. The chimpanzees at the Chester Zoo definitely have a good life. ❤

Wonderfully put! Chester Zoo and other leading zoos now try to limit human interaction of these animals so they can live as naturally as it possible in captivity As you say it clearly shows in this groups parental and sibling behaviours! Chester Zoo was established by George Mottershead and family in 1931 through his vision of a zoo without bars, using natural barriers only to contain the animals in its care and many modern zoos now follow this format, giving animals much more freedom and space to roam in their habitats. Chester and other leading zoos carefully research the natural environments of their animals to enable them to expertly recreate them in zoo habitats for their animals. We especially love watching these chimps explore in the lush outdoor environment and marvelling at their complex personalities throughout the day They are such a close family group and though their behaviours must differ from chimpanzees in the wild, they do display many common natural and instinctive traits of their wild cousins Thank you so much for watching and for your valued comments, Have a great week 🥰

We spoke to the keeper about that, it is an umbilical hernia that is quite common in chimps. 🥰

We think Carlos, no way to be sure but Jeff really does look like him and Carlos is really active with the females. Dylan doesn't seem that bothered and there is a possibility of it being Eric.
