Firstly, thank you SO MUCH for this video and the previous one. Very informative and great explanations. But it has been a long while since the launch of the game and there has been many an update (e.g. you can now change data centres on the main screen). Please could you do another analysis to see if over a year of active players, updates and development as been in the favour of Apex's net code.

On PC, there is a way to access region selection. When you first open the game and get the "left click to continue" screen there should be accessibility options at the bottom left. Open that menu for a few mins (2-5 mins should be enough) then close the accessibility menu. Magically there is a server button next to Accessibility that should appear. Allowing you to see all the pings to available servers as well as select a specific server.

I know, I showed that in my first video. But that is not what I am asking for / is required. The game needs a region selection directly in the main menu for everyone to access easily. Also, the ping to the datacenters isn't accurate in the current region selection window. :)

I dont think they are capable of fixing it or coming up with a solid foundation. All FPS from Respawn are plagued with fundamental issues in the netcode area. Same with Titanfall 1 and 2. They should really invest in hiring some capable people or spend money in training their devs.

PC Patch, June 20th, 2019: Datacenter improvements to make the list easier to understand and use: List will be sorted by ping by default. The selected data center will be highlighted in orange. Focused/hovered data centers will still be highlighted in grey. Right clicking a data center will no longer make it look selected Right click wouldn't actually select the data center but would still highlight the selection which could be confusing.Clients will now send user input to the server at a higher rate. Bug, part of hit reg fix And just to clear up some confusing wording in these posts: We have always sampled user input once every client frame. We have always sent them to the server in batches. The rate of the client sending those batches was accidentally lowered from 60hz to 20hz, and now it's 60hz or even slightly more now. We aren't sending more usercmds than we used to, but we will send each one multiple times now, which will help users with upstream packet loss. I Played the game for first time in 3 months last Friday, it was a horribly mess!! Rubber banding, random team mates disconnecting, incredibly bad hit registration! unAnd I did not see any connection error icons come up. It was totally unplayable!! I had to uninstall it after 6 matches. Ur right Chris! The Dev don't care or see it as a problem, I watch US players playing the game and they don't seem to have a problem with it. And respawn only care what the us peeps think. I have a great fiber connection with ping of 2 to my ISP and 19 to apex European server. The issue is not my setup, I have no issues in any other games

You can choose the data server location you want. You just need to wait in the main menu for about 45 seconds or 1 minute then go to the accessibility options and move the cursor around the options without changing them. Then go back to the main menu and press r3 on PS4 and you’ll see the data centers. Then you get to pick the data centers which is best for you.

The first Titanfall was 10-15 tick and while the second Titanfall improved a lot it just wasn't good enough. The source engine can do much better, but for some reason Respawn always half-ass it.

@@aondw Source can handle it. The problem is Apex is using cloud servers, which makes sense considering the many players, but a dedicated server could easily handle 60 hz. Even in Titanfall with the small amount of players on a server they went with low tickrate which is disappointing.

On console you can select your region, dunno if on pc is the same but after you open the game, before you click continue to enter the pre-game lobby, you gotta wait 1 minute then click continue and spam back untill the continue button appears again, you'll notice on the bottom appears also the voice "data center", open that and it will let you choose the server you want to play in

Wow that explains a lot . this is why I got shot the other day from a long distance and I was just about to hide myself but got shot when the other player was not even seeing me. Since the patch the netcode got worse but also the sound got worse. Before the patch I could really pinpoint the enemy in 5.1 surround sound , now the sound is so diffuse and crappy you don't know where the enemy is coming from.

I really think that they just don't have the experience optimizing their network that other companies have. The 20hz updates don't help the network delay much either. They really need to hire some experienced network programmers to help improve their current netcode and try to get the server tick up to even 30hz. Reducing packet sizes would also be very helpful.

You are the best as always! I don’t know if you know it but you can change the server by doing a trick in the pre-lobby menu, but i have no confirmation about if it works or it just fakes you to chose the server. Also some of these icons are shown when the server has some problem, resulting in all the players having bad connection and the red icon showing ( i ve noticed this on ps4 by playing with friends) I’ve always said that the problem with this game are the resources, they didn’t expect so much hype from it and since the beginning they rushed fixing all the problems with few devs imo (if you compare respawn with other main competitors). EA which could have helped with a lot of finance haven’t done a thing if not applying their ridiculous esports policy, without considering that this game is 100% not ready for competitive.

Damn near every gun battle I engage in the Prediction Error icon pops up. The enemy starts moving erratically, my bullets stop registering, and sometimes I get the kill, sometimes I don't. I had cable internet and this problem never occurred, I upgraded to fiber and now this is all I see.

Regarding you being placed on USA servers, currently theres a bug with the Matchmaker, you can fix it by going to the splash screen, press esc then cancel, wait 40 seconds, do it again then at the bottom of your screen there will be "data center" button to the right of accessibility options and you can manually select the best server for you which should fix the bug untill respawn fixes it

Will sadly have to disagree that the 4 symbols you mentioned depend on the player's connection moreso than the servers. You have entire servers suffering from prediction errors/rubberbanding right after dropping. This means that either 60 handicaps with poor connection got matched together(highly unlikely,since almost everyone runs on fiber these days,even in small cities where it finally got installed),or the servers are having issues.

Since the most recent patch 2 weeks ago on Xbox the game will connect to different servers seemingly at random but most often to the default Salt Lake City server. For a UK player that means 200 ping and everyone warping all over the place. Even after manually changing to UK servers I've had US teammates on voicechat super frustrated about the extreme lag, so it seems US players are being auto connected to Europe too. I think they have messed up the autodetection for the best server and it is either defaulting or getting incorrect pings/packet loss readings. That it has now been over 2 weeks without a change despite it ruining the gameplay for every casual player that doesn't know how to manually change the server, it's probably devastating the casual playerbase numbers.

I live in Algeria (North Africa) we get matchmaked in eu everytime, we get 70 to 100 ms ping in apex legends for some reason ( usually it's 40-55 in bf1 and cod) also we get disconnected at least 3 or 4 times before you can join a server with a shitty ping. It's the same for me. Low ping (20ms) and no packet loss on the Frankfurt server no. 1, but low ping (22ms) and packet loss (7%) on the Frankfurt server no. 2. Yet, both servers play very laggy and could not distinguish them. All around this game is almost unenjoyable for me. I die around corners, shots don't register on opponents... Business as usual, I guess! Most other games run fine.

I play in Australia, and the ANZ region is easily the smallest out of any region population. Yet when I'm playing at 5am (low peak of population), I find my teammates are more regularly coming from the US, even EU and they didn't realise the game put them on the OCE server. How does that work when the OCE region is so small and queue times are long vs US regions being highly populated most of the time?

I just started playing Apex again after like 2 months and the game feels so much worse. I get constant prediction errors. I have minor packet loss in this game (Not in other games). I think based on your explanations and the fact that they still haven't fixed packet splitting and now that they have reduced the client side updates to only 23hz, my minor packet loss leads to a lot of prediction errors. I only get these icons at the beginning of the game not during the game. So what does that mean?

At the beginning of the game when everyone is loading into the map the server seems to struggle a bit which triggers these icons. If there are no icons once the match starts then this means that your connection is below the threshold of what triggers these. I don't want to say that your connection is fine then because the latency icon triggers very late - past ~170ms

There were a early issue with the game, people could not login. When that was going on, there were a option to chose region servers to connect to. You could use any of the servers/datacenters and see the ping to them. Though it was a added feature, but the next day, the option were removed. This was on PS4.

Sadly respawn is very slow to get any updates/fixes out. It's like they never thought the game would be this successful and never got more staff to fix the game. I really enjoy the game but the lack of communication and slow response times from the devs makes it extremely frustrating, when you die to things that should've been fixed months ago.

Ruan Kruger they busy working on Jedi fallen order, and I think that’s why apex isn’t getting a lot going on atm.

@@limjaheyatyourcervix1601 I thought the same but it's been a few months and with the massive success of the game at the start, surely they should've hired a few more devs to compensate. I don't know, it just feels like they really missed an opportunity to create a long and successful game. They need to act soon

Limjahey At your cervix they also said that they are pushing back any plans for future TF games. All of this was said by respawns exec producer in a reddit post over a month ago, he also talks about hit reg, amount of content/updates and communicating more. Google “an update on apex legends from respawn reddit”.

Hi Chris! Vielen Dank für dein Update-Video. Eine Regionsauswhl ist möglich, wenn auch über Umwege. Du musst ins Hauptmenü, und dort einfach AFK warten, bis du wieder zum Titelschirm geworfen wirst. Unten hast du dann den Punkt Datencenter. Hi Chris! Thanks for your update-video. A region selection is possible, even it is a little bit of a detour. Just enter the main menu, and weit until you get kicked to the title screen for inactivity. There you can choose datacenter. There you can change your region.

ich weis das es dieses menü gibt (siehe mein erstes video zu Apex Legends), abgesehen davon dass dieses menü den matchmaker *nicht* dazu zwingt in der gewählten region zu bleiben, ist das keine Lösung da du ja weist was man machen muss damit man das menü überhaupt zu sehen bekommt. :)

You can choose server in the starting screen but you have to wait 30 seconds to get to the accesibility options

I know about that screen as I showed it in the first video. But it is not what I am asking for/is needed. What we need is an option right inside the main menu that is available to everyone. Furthermore, the hidden region selector does not actually force the matchmaker to use just that region.
