Thanks for the video. I have a 911, but I presume the same is true on size. One question I have been struggling with is the notion that there are more tire option for 19" 245/35/19 - 305/30/19 compared to the stock 20". Am I missing something, but every search I have done generally results in more options for the 20". Specific use case is HPDE events. Generally searching through TireRack. Any thoughts?

Thank you for this video!!. I am wanting to go to 19" from my Factory 20" wheels on my 718 Cayman S. I love the 19" Brushed Clear VS-5RS. And have struggled with the ET of the back wheel. I think I am good to go with a 19x10.5 (ET44) if I want to run 275 width tires.

The wheels will be lighter and wider in comparison, and the most common tire configuration is 255/35-19 front, 285/35-19 rear. We strongly suggest 18" wheels for 987 owners. What do you think about running 18 and 19 combination. Here in Korea, 245 40 18 and 275 35 19 are popular while other recommanded sizes are extremre rare among track tires. Is it alright?

18x9"ET46 in front and 19x10.5"ET44 in rear can work with those tire sizes. Staggered diameters on a Cayman are not common nor typically recommended, but with the sizes you plan to use the tire height variance front to rear is still appropriate at ~3.5%

Great video! I have a 718 Spyder that I plan to purchase dedicated track wheels for (keeping the stock 20s for road use only). I prefer smaller diameter wheels but would also like to have the flexibility to go with at least 295 section tires in the rear. The car has the steel brakes instead of PCCBs. I've got a Cayman GTS 4.0 and I'd like to change to 19" or 18" What would you recommend for ~10,000mi + ~10 track days a year? In my head, if I'm going for maximum overall functionality, why not go for the 18"... right?

There are a few variables to consider. Both 18" and 19" APEX wheels will clear the GTS 4.0 brakes, and come in the ideal 9" front, 10.5" rear widths. Both diameters will also reduce weight and increase performance over the stock setup, so the first step in choosing between the two is deciding what tire sizes and specific tire compound you want to run, as not all are offered in both 18's and 19's. Agree with all! Same problem for Tesla Model 3. Hard to find any tire in 295\35\18 size. Only A052. R19 is required.

Exact same for the F8X M3/M4. It's either A052, Conti Extreme Contact Sport, or move up to a 305/35-18 for the R888R or Nitto NT01. Hopefully tire companies will come through eventually on these sizes.

You really can't go wrong with 18" or 19" for those cars as tire availability is less of a concern. If you have a specific tire size or model you want to run, I would let that be the deciding factor. If it's available in both diameters then 18"s will give you cheaper tire cost and a bit lighter weight as long as you don't have a large brake kit that requires 19"s. Good question. I had problems with the original GT4 wheels&rims they rub on the wishbone and the chassis only on track…

If by stock 20"s you mean the stock 20x11"ET50 GT4 rear wheel then the short answer is yes but there is nuance. The factory setup came with a 295/30-20 rear tire and fitment is already quite flush at factory alignment settings. You can generally get away with a decent track-worthy alignment on the OEM tire options but something like Hoosier R7's has a decent chance of experiencing fender clearance issues (especially at an alignment setting befitting of Hoosiers). This is where rear camber plates from someone like Dundon Motorsports come into play, by providing you with additional rear camber and increased fender clearance. This mod is what we recommend to our 19" customers to ensure clearance for a track-oriented 305 tire. In terms of our recommendations for our 20x9"ET50 and 20x11"ET50 setup, we only suggest the OEM tire sizes. We are generally trying to reduce the understeer commonly found in the Cayman platform and increasing rear tire size alone with only make the problem worse. With that said bumping up to a 255/35-20 front tire is possible but requires an alignment dedicated to that size. Your caster has to be set perfectly to reduce the chance of potentially rubbing the fender liner. Clearances are so close this will vary based on tire model if you can eliminate the fender liner rub entirely. This is why the 19" setup of 19x9"ET50 and 19x10.5"ET44 or 19x11"ET48 for steel brake GT4's is so popular, You can go to something like 265/35-19 and 305/30-19 with front and rear camber plates and have more fender liner clearance than stock due to the reduced overall tire diameters. @apexwheels it's for a cayman S, stock carrerra S wheels. Standard tyres are 235/35/20 and 265/35/20. What is widest for front and rear ? The car is standard everything. Can I run 285 35 20? If not the 305 30 20 ? Or gt4 size 295 30 20 Cheers, I want to run nankang ar1 and they only come in 285 or 305

For the time attack people, does the extra width of the 305 overcome the extra weight and lead to better lap times?

There are many variables at play here that need to be discussed. For maximum performance, we strongly recommend 265 front tires which will dramatically improve front end grip and reduce understeer. These wide front tires will require aftermarket camber plates and aggressive negative camber specs, but that is par for the course for a time attack / race car. In the rear, you have the option to run our 10.5" wheel or 11" wheel, and deciding between the two really comes down to what rear tire size you plan to run. Some drivers will prefer a more balanced setup with 10.5" wheels and 285's (which is a lighter setup), while others want to maximize grip with 11" wheels and 305's (which will add some weight).
