Thanks for putting this video together. Spent many Sunday afternoons at GG and it is really sad this is happening.

I spent a lot of time there. I don't go anymore but I'll have to drop by one more time before it closes.

Definitely, but the ground in the area is going to prove hard to build on.

Aqueduct is closing in 2026 once the renovations are completed at Belmont Park it’s sad to see things are changing. People would rather bet on a good field sizes at Santa Anita Park and add Thursdays to 2024-25 schedule.

That’s not going to happen. SA is next

The entire industry in North America has been in retreat for a long time, and in some ways it's inexplicable. The sport itself is so absorbing and thrilling and exciting. You'd think this is simply a matter of marketing and public relations. But racetracks seem unable to hire professionals and pros who are educated about the game and buy into it......the problems are multi-faceted to be sure, involving virtually every sector of the industry. What makes the situation even clearer to see is that there is a staggering amount of wealth in the US and Canada...although there is growing wealth inequality and rising numbers of folks doing without....generally speaking people have never been wealthier and seem to have no qualms spending money....yet people are increasingly unaware of the existence of horse racing never mind how exciting it is. When Golden Gate closes down and the facilities mowed under , it will be sa huge blow from which I don't know how racing can recover in northern California. They lost Bay Meadows and other tracks in the region like Portland ....it's reached a crisis !

Just look at the people attending the track. It's a dying demographic.

I don't know what the future holds for Nor Cal horse racing, other than a bigger emphasis on Pleasanton, Stockton, Sacramento, and Santa Rosa, but the circuit will find a way to adapt. Just another victim of landowners wanting to turn the site into something that will make them more money, like industrial warehouses.

What's a parth? Some horse racing code name?

Golden Gate attendance: June 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, 9th, 10th and 11th: 447, 788, 932, 454, 1356, 1520. Pleasanton attendance: June 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24: 3250, 3415, 5385, 3025, 6250, 5340. There is demand for horse racing in NO California. Tracks that try to draw people to the races do, look at Fonner park. Golden Gate clearly does not

And over 250k was bet on-track at Pleasanton BTW
@horsetrackguy10 ай бұрын
And over 350k was the average on-track at Fresno this fall
@apharoah1210 ай бұрын
I completely agree. Let's hope the numbers for Pleasanton stay that way if they extend their meet. I know in the CHRB meeting they tried to counter by saying they only got the focus because it was a limited event, expressing concerns that if it is open longer, the excitement to attend or wager will dip. Hopefully they'll keep the North alive.
@horsetrackguy10 ай бұрын
That is true, however a month or 2 break in the winter and alternating between Pleasanton, Ferndale, Fresno, Cal Expo, Stockton, Santa Rosa and maybe moving up to GRP for a while in Oregon and they could keep it fresh. Hope they can make it work

It started to go down when Californians foolishly passed Indian Gaming in the mid to late 90s.

04/30/24: "Uncertain?" Face reality. There is NO future for major league horse racing in America, aside from KY/NY/Arkansas. I handicap sports events. At one time, I also handicapped horse racing. I just realized that when I need to know something about baseball/football, etc. players, I NEVER hear the automatic reaction that I used to hear from the racetracks: "WHAT DO YOU WANT TO KNOW THAT FOR?" Good luck, California. Dummies like Wygod are a dying breed.
