Aphrodite: an icon on the Watch Hill waterfront

Captain Kirk Reynolds gives a tour of Aphrodite and talks about the boat's restoration. Aphrodite is a 74-foot wooden power boat built in 1937 for Wall Street financier Jock Whitney. Charles Royce purchased the boat in 2000, and it underwent an intensive 18-month restoration at Brooklin Boat Yard.

There was a octogenarian couple on the Connecticut side of the Pawcatuck River that invited me out on their 1916 Elco motor yacht. It was freaking awesome. They would regularly go to Block Island and even though I only spent a few hours with them, 50 years ago, they were memorable people.

100% wood replacement........ soooo essentially you built a new boat and transferred her hardware? Reminds me of a old joke about an old time pilot holding a busted, broken, bent, flat early aeroplane wheel, and he is saying, 'I'm thinkin on restoring this plane.' .... I think all you officially need is one original piece of something and you can build a new whatever its is including that one part and call it a restoration.
