Vangelis never really wanted to record this music a whole lot. It was the rest of the band who forced the issue. The main guitarist, forget his name, Egyptian, who played various stringed instruments was a big influence. Vangelis leaned towards much more happy, commercial music which you see in some of their songs. He was pulled away from the band for a solo career.....being groomed and coddled by being told he was too good for the band. Too bad....sure would have liked to see more albums. .
@FrontierNG19 күн бұрын
@@lanier1000 The main guitarist is Silver (Anargyros) Koulouris and he is Greek, not Egyptian. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphrodite%27s_Child

@@FrontierNGWell damn, I sure was wrong. Thanks. Not sure how I did that. I had read some kind of tie-in to the band regarding Egyptian instruments and must've changed it around in my head. I just tried to find out what that was exactly but can't seem to locate it now.....unless I'm just 100% wrong. Thanks for correcting me. I had thought for some time it's what made their sound so unique, that is, beyond the voice. Have you seen the vid for The Shepard and the Moon? It comes across as having a Middle East influence. I love the song but it does not seem many others do for some reason. It's so unusual : kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZ_UZZSqoNR9e7Mfeature=shared .

I saw the souls I saw the martyrs I heared them crying I heard them shouting They were dressed in white they've been told to wait The sun was black the moon was red the stars were falling the earth was trembling And then a crowd impossible to number Dressed in white carrying palms shouted amid the hotless sun the lightless moon the windless earth the colourless sky ... Grew up on this album, thanks to my uncle’s music exploration findings. Had not heard this song for decades. Then one night I was cruising alone on a remote road of Paros (Greek island), with a bright moon reflecting on Aegean waters. Had no FM radio, only AM where the sound was coming and going either muffled or clear like a wave. Then this song pops up and …. I just cannot describe the feeling! Even now when I recall the moment, I get goosebumps!!! All the genius of both Vangelis and Demis, is contained on that masterpiece!

The Agean Sea is one of my best from Demis - I lived 10 years in Greece and for me this song is very near to my heart...
