I'm sad that I only found this masterpiece now, 20/05/2022, three days after the passing of the great musician who was Vangelis. But this music will accompany me in my journey in this world from now on. Greetings, and thank you for this piece of art.

Vangelis never really wanted to record this music a whole lot. It was the rest of the band who forced the issue. The main guitarist, forget his name, Egyptian, who played various stringed instruments was a big influence. Vangelis leaned towards much more happy, commercial music which you see in some of their songs. He was pulled away from the band for a solo career.....being groomed and coddled by being told he was too good for the band. Too bad....sure would have liked to see more albums. .

@@FrontierNGWell damn, I sure was wrong. Thanks. Not sure how I did that. I had read some kind of tie-in to the band regarding Egyptian instruments and must've changed it around in my head. I just tried to find out what that was exactly but can't seem to locate it now.....unless I'm just 100% wrong. Thanks for correcting me. I had thought for some time it's what made their sound so unique, that is, beyond the voice. Have you seen the vid for The Shepard and the Moon? It comes across as having a Middle East influence. I love the song but it does not seem many others do for some reason. It's so unusual : kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZ_UZZSqoNR9e7Mfeature=shared .

I saw the souls I saw the martyrs I heared them crying I heard them shouting They were dressed in white they've been told to wait The sun was black the moon was red the stars were falling the earth was trembling And then a crowd impossible to number Dressed in white carrying palms shouted amid the hotless sun the lightless moon the windless earth the colourless sky ... Grew up on this album, thanks to my uncle’s music exploration findings. Had not heard this song for decades. Then one night I was cruising alone on a remote road of Paros (Greek island), with a bright moon reflecting on Aegean waters. Had no FM radio, only AM where the sound was coming and going either muffled or clear like a wave. Then this song pops up and …. I just cannot describe the feeling! Even now when I recall the moment, I get goosebumps!!! All the genius of both Vangelis and Demis, is contained on that masterpiece!

We will be really missing Demis Roussos for his fantastic voice and unforgettable hits. In USSR he had and still has now millions of fans and we listened to his music on tapes and loved each of his great songs! The Agean Sea is one of my best from Demis - I lived 10 years in Greece and for me this song is very near to my heart... Greece gave us not only Theodorakis - but also these two brilliant musicians - Demis Roussos and Vangelis - both are in my top 10 play list forever. Regards, Oleg from Moscow

I swear to the gods this is the first time I ever smoked pot, 1978, after buying a nickel bag in a squat on 2nd street downtown, by candlelight. Somebody had a transistor radio. This song was playing.

SINGING is my reception too. I hear a lot of FAMOUS singerers, but they all sing in the same way. Solo chorus Musik. Nice voices but boring. When we had a singer like Nina Hagen? Or this? Some eran the money and the artist is a Statist. That's our world 😢

Thanks for this. I'm shamed to only now be enjoying this after learning about Vangelis' music on the movie "The Bounty" which is spiritual and lovely to be sure! What a gift he shared with the world. This sharing is love. Agape, is the term? I now understand it!! Thank you. So wonderful!!

Imagine an epic gig with them and Genesis playing together, although I think they split pretty much as Genesis hit big in Europe. I can imagine Vangelis giving Tony Banks some early synth advice!
