A lot first and second gen groups were stuck in such a vicious cycle where dieting was promoted really unhealthily, and there was no one to tell them otherwise - it was brought up in various variety shows and contents. I'm glad that it's gotten a little better now, but it's still a problem.
@duck61002 жыл бұрын
It's definitely become more unacceptable to talk about going on crazy diets or for companies to push it on idols because people recognise it's unhealthy. Unfortunately though the expectation for female idols to be very slim hasn't changed. We have a situation where we expect them to have a healthy lifestyle but still be underweight. I still see people hate on idols that aren't model thin, only recently people were calling Red Velvet's Joy fat because she has a more rectangular body type and wore an outfit that showed it, she would literally need to be anorexic to avoid it. For most idols, even at their heaviest they were at a healthy weight it's just that it's too big for the kpop industry. So now idols will still go on crazy diets, they just won't tell us about them so they don't get the hate. Things have only gotten better on the surface, for them to actually get better people will need to accept what the average female body looks like.
@amfgvideos25172 жыл бұрын
I think Bomi's struggle with dieting is one a lot of people can relate to or experience at some point, especially when your body is your job. At the beginning it's great, because she could get super thin for a short while when promoting then eat like crazy on hiatus and just starve temporarily a few times a year to lose it again. But now the consequences are catching up, starting with her Atopic Dermatitis condition. The more you binge then restrict, the hungrier you get over time and Bomi is also starting to face that uncontrollable hunger causing some uncomfortable mukbang binges.

To anyone who wants to lose weight: please, take it slow and still enjoy food / life. I know it can be hard to accept, but getting rid of years worth of weight can't be done successfully in a short period of time. I relate so much to Bomi. I managed to gain around 5kg in four weeks because of crash dieting. You're going to be miserable if you try to lose weight like this and you'll also be in a lot of bodily pain. The miserable feeling will just make you want to eat because you're sad. When you're happy and healthy, you're more likely to do things right. I spent years yo-yoing and it has negatively impacted my body. You don't have to be underweight to be beautiful. Muscle and a little extra fat can make you look even more beautiful. You'll also feel stronger and more energetic. Life is too short. Don't spend your life worrying about losing weight ASAP and being scared of food. Tomorrow will still come. So will next year. Take any weight loss slowly, and you'll be much more likely to succeed in keeping it off. Weight loss is about lifestyle; it's not like a medicine you take for a period of time. If you go back to what you did after losing weight, you'll just get stuck in a cycle. Life is about moderation.

I’m no expert, but I think their busy schedules means they don’t have a consistent eating schedule. So for say 6 hours they don’t eat anything cause they’re busy filming and then once they’re done, they eat a small meal. Or they could even eat a big meal. Whether the meal is big or small, restricting your body for that long or even longer and then giving it food is basically binging. And the meal itself may not be healthy either. Repeat this every day for 4+ weeks as they prep for a comeback and promote that comeback and it becomes a problem for your body and it retains more weight cause you’re restricting it from food for a 6 hours and then giving it food. Again, I’m no expert. I mostly say this from experience as a college student. My eating schedule used to be pretty bad where I would go for hours without eating cause of classes and studying and then I’d eat a meal late at night. I felt like my body was its biggest during that time. Now I have a better eating schedule and generally eat better foods, so I feel like my body doesn’t look bloated and isn’t fluctuating in weight so much

the video around 17:55 with the person filming telling her it'll be alright and to eat more as she probably mentally worked out the calories of each food and verbally spoke about how much of what she could eat broke me. i was doing yo-yo dieting and ended up with really bad heart issues, then months later in a psych ward. ive had so many moments where i spoke out loud as i got food how much of what i should eat with someone saying in the background "no youll be okay, its just food, honey!" my mind would translate those kind words as something that grated against my heart, i knew they were right but mentally i was so stuck on the habit that i just *couldn't* let them comfort me. it was like i *had* to restrict. its only been three years since this all started for me and my skin already has lost elasticity, ive lost teeth, am going to have to get more teeth removed. i am 21 years old. this video should be taken as a lesson to love your body and please give it the nutrients it deserves because it just wants to keep you moving and more importantly ALIVE. in the past, i didnt care because i didnt even want to stay alive. im sure she wants to get out of this path one day and i really hope she does. its torturous on your mind and body and we all deserve better than to feel guilty and ashamed if we eat just a little bit more rice. everyone please eat well and talk to your loved ones about how youre feeling and trust that they care about you, because they do.

I relate to this ENTIRE video heavily. Since I started highschool, I used to be in a very dangerous mindset of crash-dieting and binge. It only got worst with school making me feel depressed and worthless, an the height (at this time) of which my mother was very abusive and treated me like utter garbage so food was a comfort but I always felt bad about how much I ate. It was a constant cycle and it was hard to stop. I was…15 when this all started and I’ll be 18 in about 2 weeks. Seriously, people, get help if you can. This sort of thing can be very detrimental to your health. Nobody is going to tell you “well do these three things and you won’t binge anymore”. It’s never that simple. This can manifest itself into an ED. I’m currently still battling this but I took it upon myself to approach food in a different manner. I also show myself lots of self-love and support. Anytime a negative thought pops into my head about food or how much I’m eating. I pause an ask myself “Why am I thinking like this?” An most of the time it’s because of how I FEEL when I’ve had an excessive amount. Regardless I tell myself “Your human. It’s okay to not be perfect. You are beautiful regardless of the way you look. Beauty extends so much more beyond how you look”. And no, telling yourself this doesn’t mean you’ll AUTOMATICALLY believe it. The point is to take baby steps with yourself. Treat yourself well and don’t beat yourself up because your not making the progress as quick as you’d like to see. We all have different bodies and our bodies all work differently. Why be mean to yourself when your deserving of so much love? I’ve found that, not even on a food level but on a personal level, resolving all the trauma and emotions that’s built up over time and letting them go was something that helps me improve and find passion for getting better. None of this was easy. It’s a big struggle. You break down some days, you give in some days and that’s okay. I remember crying because food was all I could ever think about, even though I wanted to binge and I wasn’t hungry at all! But change is never easy and it can be met with some resistance, but never give up. Keep striving. Keep pushing. Set healthy, achievable goals one day at a time. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Surround yourself with positive people. Listen to positive, empowering messages. LOVE WHO YOUR ARE BECAUSE YOU ARE YOU, AND YOU IS PRETTY FREAKING AWESOME.

@kbecks1232 жыл бұрын
This has nothing to do with Bomi specifically, I was just watching a bunch of these on this channel (which has been pretty interesting and eye opening) and noticed something and I'm honestly curious. What I don't get is why these idols are never taught like proper nutrition and health. They always seem to be crash dieting like a month before they need to do a comeback, like what are they doing the rest of the time? They should be eating healthily and exercising regularly so that there doesn't need to a "crash" just a few weeks before, sure they could potentially still cut back a little during this time if they want but it wouldn't have to be to the point where this yo-yo effect starts happening. Also, if they actually exercised regularly, you would gain some muscle and muscle as we all know is more dense then fat and also helps with burning more calories. So even if they are to be too busy like 3 months of the year for a comeback, the good eating habits and muscle you gained from the rest of the year should be good to maintain or to the extent that you don't need to go overboard even if you may not be eating so clean or have time to exercise properly for the times you are super busy. And honestly, 30 min a day of exercise is probably enough and does good for the mind as well. Again this is not an attack on Bomi or even other idols, honestly, I think the fault is more on the companies/industry for enforcing such strict visual standards and instilling this toxic mindset into these idols from such a young age and also crazy "fans" who jump boat the minute someone gains a bit of weight.
@el9722 жыл бұрын
Being completely honest I think proper nutrition is probably not something most people know, and maybe the industry/companies encourage that type of behavior. Other thing maybe their bodies aren’t supposed to be that thin, even if they constantly exercise and eat that level of thinness isn’t natural( to most),besides that they don’t want muscles, they want thinness and muscles are considered ugly( how many idols get those injections to get rid of their calves muscles must be insane high). Being brief Metabolic compensation can also make everything harder as your body see that your eating less than your burning and wants you to stay at the same weight, your body wants to store fat, basically there’s a popular theory in science that explains how your body has a favorite weight, and will fight too make you stay at that, so again, probably most people aren’t designed to be as thin as kpop idols and even if they eat and exercite still can’t be like that, so the only thing they can do is starve to achieve it. I imagine that most people can win over metabolic compensation with profissional help as you mentioned but again i think it really comes down to your body wanting you to be alive and well not underweight and eating itself, if they eat properly and exercise they’ll probably maintain a good weight for their bodies but probably not good enough for the industry
@kbecks1232 жыл бұрын
@@el972 oh wow, I knew about a lot of them not wanting muscles but didn't know the extent to actually preventing/getting rid of them with injections. That is insane! I didn't even know that was a thing. Yes I know there definitely is a lot more that you need to factor in in terms of everyone's body being different and not being as simple as I mentioned but it all starts with knowledge and a good foundation which it seems like most don't have or ignore due to industry wants.

it's not even just an idol thing. i don't even think it's a matter of knowing what's healthy or not . obviously you know you need to eat well and exercise, but when you're constantly under pressure to lose weight and look good, it's easy to fall into these unhealthy habits. i'll speak for myself, i've been struggling with disordered eating for half of my life (i'm in my mid 20s now). i'm now in a better place, but you can't really turn off the part of your brain that engages in these unhealthy habits unless you have a lot of support (personal and professional) and idol life just doesn't lend itself to that personally i don't care what someone looks like as long as they're healthy and happy but i do get a bit concerned with the "diets" idols talk about :/ it all sounds like an eating disorder (or at least a deeply unhealthy relationship with food), even if people don't want to admit

It was funny to read the hate comments about her sharing her diet. The only reason she has to diet in the first place is because of those irrational fans, she shows how she does it and then they still slander her for it, if she didn't they would all tell her to diet but when she does they aren't happy about it. Honestly this is the part of kpop I hate the most. The weight fluctuations Bomi endured is not healthy, and should NEVER be encouraged, especially by those closest to her. I am not at all shaming the girls, as it was their managers who abused them into thinking starving themselves is the best look for them. And yes, I say starve because these girls were definitely not consuming enough calories for their growing bodies, and weigh much less than they should for their age and height. This is cruelty, and I’m extremely upset with the management for not teaching these girls how to respect and care for their bodies. They’re beautiful and so so talented. Weight should not be a focus in the entertainment industry. The health and wellness of the idols should be top priority. I hope one day they can find balance, have a good relationship with food, and attain self confidence. Much love and take care❤️

Ngl the netizens were sorta right with this one. Speaking about the dangers of quick starvation diets but then she keeps doing them. I doubt she uses any of those diet snacks she endorsed. Her solution to her changing body type? Lose more weight.. Maybe she's so used to doing this that she's willing to tolerate the consequences. When Bomi retires as an idol I think she'll just overall be heavier. Unless she tries to get more into acting, but you can't yoyo within weeks cuz filming can go for months and they want the actors to look the same for the show.

To a great extent the fans are the ones who create the climate for this. We are the ones who fat shame them when they are at what would be considered a medically sound, normal, healthy weight. The companies pressure them and they pressure themselves to give the fans the bodies that they want to see, otherwise no success will come and they will be ridiculed.

This was so sad to watch, there was a certain point where Bomi seemed to have a healthy relationship with food but then that relationship didn’t stay. I really hope the cycle she’s in will end soon.

One thing I did notice, is that all the members were pretty slim for the Dilemma comeback
@anamrake2 жыл бұрын
It's a sad reality that the job of an idol requires her to be super slim. I think she looked totally fine, slim and fresh with a bit more weight before their 2022 comeback. Her current figure seems way too slim, but that's probably what Korea market likes? Dunno..

What are carboxy shots I see them in a lot of these videos
@epmeats2 жыл бұрын
they can dissolve fat cells for the illusion of weight loss. But they are not permanent and gaining weight will mean you need more shots. Also because of the dead fat cells you won't grow fat evenly like before so I notice some girls legs like SNSD yuri and FX Luna look uneven or bumpy around the thigh.
@rmslefttoe90242 жыл бұрын
@Dawn Mabaso i think if they dont gain any fat it will not look bumpy but that is not realistic

Can you please do Choi Chanhee? he lost so much weight this year and he sits at a 16 BMI which it's insanely low considering his age and insane schedule.
@wildflwrs2 жыл бұрын
i understand your concern, but chanhee is really uncomfortable with people talking about his weight. he doesn't want to share the numbers & he's stated that he's not trying to lose it (he finds it hard to gain weight and went to do training in order to try gain some). some members of the boyz have also talked about it and asked us not to worry about him. a video like that, especially if it's focusing on his appearance and speculation, would not be fair on him. we should respect his privacy over it.

Knetz love to body shame and insult idols when they gain weight, but if they start dieting and lose some weight they also get pissed about idols talking about what they eat when they diet... Like at this point y'all would get mad and every single thing idols would do, I bet they get pissed if idols walk bc it's dangerous cause cars could fucking hit you 😭

Tbh if weight is such an unskippable issue in the industry, introduce weight lifting. It has zero backsides unlike dieting and doesn't tire you out rather helps you lose weight for a frame of 36hrs next unlike cardio like dancing or running. Weightlifting is literally the way to go. Everybody knows sustainable fitness comes from exercising and building muscle. Especially not dieting. I wish kpop insiders really wanting their idols to lose weight could care for them enough to introduce healthy ways of administering it.

These managers and the way these industries work, it’s detrimental to idols/trainees/and in general, to the mental and physical health. This causes EDs. I hope they all get better, it’s so tough and sad. :(((

I feel so bad for female kpop idols. The pressure to conform to beauty standards is so strong they brutalize their bodies and risk their lifelong health for a subjectively “good” body.

"you should feel thankful that we're forcing you to diet now. You'll want to diet yourself later on" what an absolutely disgusting thing to say. "we're giving you an eating disorder now so you can stay thin later on" is what they really said.

The diet doesn’t sound that bad. They get vitamins, calories, carbs. Small potions naturally shrink your stomach. But heavy cardio is going to require more calories.
@humanoide70762 жыл бұрын
No, they need other types of food with more carbs especially with all the cardio they do, and losing weight that fast is not good
