I don't think they clearly understand what a diet is...its to eat healthy food, keyword eat. You don't starve yourself, it will literally make the fat on your body stay.
@vannymarquez3077
@vannymarquez3077 7 жыл бұрын
That is not quite it either. That is why many people are so skinny cause they starve. Even though some people may give up after a while, those are the ones that stay chubby. The skinny ones you see that starve themselves are the ones who have stuck with it to the point where there is no fat for the body to hold on to.That is why if a person is going to starve themselves, they should at least do it properly, or there is no point to all the suffering....Not that i am saying it is okay XD at all!!

+Ri'AikaCröw wow that's really dangerous. Ik your body starts to eat muscle which makes you weaker. But the healthy way to diet is just to eat less and more healthy. Not to starve and only eat one potato a day.

BAngtan Trash 808 of course ^^ The only way to diet is the healthy way if you really want to see results in the future, ones that actually last I mean. Still, some people may feel desperate enough to do whatever is necessary in order to feel better or look better and there is no one to tell them otherwise (especially in Korean culture, I hear, where you prize being thin and beautiful above all else), so it gets to the point where people ruin their health for a smaller jean size. It is really sad but very real..

Your stomach will not digest itself under any normal circumstances. The human stomach (as well as other internal organs) is lined in mucosa so that when the stomach secretes gastric acid and digestive enzymes it won't corrode/digest itself. Pretty much the only time your stomach would digest itself was if you A. add an abnormally large secretion of gastric acid, which would corrode the stomach's lining, or B. a peptic ulcer (a break in the lining of the stomach) exposing the stomach to gastric acid.

Starving yourself won't make the fat stay on your body. People just tend to binge when they are not eating because their body needs energy. Then they crave high calorie foods. It's not bad to restrict caloric intake for a short time (maybe two or three days), but your regular diet should not consist of more calories than you need. Exercise, and restrict your caloric intake (which means don't consume pointless calories for "fun" foods, consume what you need). You can maintain a slim weight and eat, but smaller bodies also require less energy for metabolism. Exercise, eat healthy. Shouldn't be difficult.

Caring about appearance is not only a Korean thing but it seems that most female koreans dislike having muscles while as most female Americans like giving toned arms and stomach. Thus all cultures have a different definition of what “beauty” is,I think that’s what the op is talking about. Personally,I think starving yourself is worrying and not exercising because you don’t want any muscles is troubling as exercise is vital keeping you healthy and fit.

I see a lot of people blaming korean society for her issue, but from what I gathered, her issue is actually rooted in her childhood: attachment issues and unhealthy reward systems created by the parents. She was educated to be this way. Of course the parents didn't do this on purpose but that's what happened. Nutritionists won't be able to solve her issue, she has to go to therapy. That's why I think that Yeongja actually gave her really good advice. She told her that she's not a child anymore and that she can create her own path. That's strong advice. Yeongja analysed her perfectly.

I've been diagnosed with an eating disorder and literally have done all the things she's done. I think Korea is really slow at diagnosing mental problems and just categories it as "Oh she's dieting", "Oh he's a little weird", "Oh. they're a little anti social". Like I love this show and I know they're not doctors and shouldn't be speaking so loosely, but I've seen people with symptoms of depression, eating disorders, ocd, etc. I'm no doctor either, but if the situation is serious enough it shouldn't be brushed off as "A diet".

Fighting! I used to weigh over 90 kg and I lost over 20 kg. By eating healthy, eating lesser, and exercising more, there is no way you will not lose weight and get leaner if you stay consistent and dedicated. Its not just about feeling better and having more confidence, which you dont necessarily need to lose weight for, but your body will thank you when you get healthier. : )

*Everyone says that Korea cares too much about looks, but every country does that*, being "fat" is "wrong" all over the world and they have reasons to think that way. I'm not "fat shaming", I'm "fat" myself so I understand the Older sister, in most cases, over weighted people have a bigger risk of developing diverse illness, also people who are under weighted. Something I used to do was to eat a spoon of every dish I made (e.x: 1 sp rice, 1sp lentils, 1 sp veggies/chicken) and only drink water throughout the whole day. I ate 3 meals a day like that (at school I would buy something small just to calm the hunger till I could go home and eat), that way I kept my weight stable (I was happy with my weight and body then). You don't need to exercise that much, just walking is enough, eating is the most important part of losing weight, slowly shedding the fat is better :)
@babybobo8736

I think many countries care about looks, but not all. I've seen in many Korean shows almost in everyone of them they talk about looks, whether in a negative way or positive way. I'm not trying to gloat but in my country you would never find a show where the cast comment on your looks. It would be quite an uncomfortable situation if anybody did. There are also countries that prefer thicker women(so not all countries in the world hate "fat"). I'm not quite sure but I think it's in Tanzania, the bride-to-be goes to a fattening camp before her wedding day for 3months. She would be fed all diary products. And people saying your wife looks like a cow is a big compliment. Americans care a lot about looks too, but I wouldn't say it's as bad as it is in Korea. Because in Korea, your looks will get you places. It's country where you photoshop your job application pics so that you get hired.
@MoonshineSunset
@MoonshineSunset 7 жыл бұрын
When I stated that *every country does that (regarding looks)* I didn't write down "regarding 'fat' people" (I sound so rude, sorry). What I meant is that I wasn't talking about being fat at that statement, just about physical appearance in general. When you mentioned the fattening camp for brides I remembered my Art & History classes: women with more body fat, wide hips and big breasts were considered more desirable to marry because they were considered better to have and rise children. I kind of get that thinking, a women needs more fat to properly function and be fertile. I didn't meant to say "hate"...but that is seen as "not ideal", and right, there're exceptions, like what you mentioned. NOW, this might sound pretty harsh but, although people don't comment about a person's appearance openly they think about it, be it positive or negative. Even animals above us -I consider humans animals too- judge by looks, and we often make choices by that, *pretty sad* but it's the truth. I don't want you to think I'm rude or some air headed person btw, I'm pretty self conscious about my appearance, *but only my own*. I don't like when people judge others because they can, but if someone asks me, I'll be pretty honest, the same goes if I ask someone about my looks. And yeah, being "ugly" in Korea is just like a crime, that's why plastic surgery is so popular, but still I think that giving the best of you, and looking the best of you will take you places too, *no one is perfect, but we can be our own perfect versions*...that sound so much like "fat shaming" on my mind. . .*sighs* *I can't sleep so, long reply. . .

I hope I loose weight this year to start accepting myself 🕊

You shouldn't deny how you look. You should try focusing on eating healthier instead of losing weight. Of course, you'll lose weight when you eat healthier, but don't starve yourself! It's okay to be chubbier than others, and it doesn't make you less beautiful. You are born with this body and you are the only one who has to live with this body for the rest of your life. Maybe ask yourself if you want to be thinner for OTHERS or YOURSELF. I have the same feelings as you and I got really depressed about it, but now that I eat healthier I feel so much better and I don't even care anymore about losing weight ^^ Just remember you're beautiful as you are, and if you want to change do it for yourself. Side note: to those who call you fat F them! They're probably really insecure about themselves :) Wear what you like and be yourself, I support you!

I'm Asian as well and I can understand them very well. The people who are saying things like "it's obvious that she has an eating disorder" or "this is all because of Korea's wrong mindset" don't quite understand. Firstly, it's not an eating disorder, it's just her own negative way of thinking. Also, I agree that in Asian societies we do take it too far sometimes, but there are always people like Yeonja who are loved despite their size. To a pretty high degree, it's still all about self confidence and self love, like they said. I can relate to her personally as well. I was always chubby as a kid, and my mother wouldn't allow me to eat sweets or junk food. Despite that, I still never lost weight. A few years ago, I lost about 15kg, putting me at 50kg with a height of 162cm. Like her, I rewarded myself for my hard work, and now I'm up at 56kg. Through this video, I realized that if I didn't change my mindset, I would go down the same path as her. Dieting and food also controls my life, and I hate myself when I gain weight on the scale. I'm going to try to love myself as well. It's not about not eating, it's about eating the right things. Thank you to Hello Counselor for being so inspirational and uplifting. And I'd like foreign viewers to try to understand better as well.

honestly, if the habits you're engaging in are anything like this girl's, you probably suffer from disorded eating as well. i don't think this is an asian thing. this is a problem that effects people from all cultures. unfortunately, you mom reinforced your unhealthy relationship with food by preventing you from ever developing self control and making you think that you have to give up the foods you love just to lose weight. all you need to do is count calories. that's literally it. you can eat whatever you want, you can eat a cheeseburger and french fries every day if you want, as long as it doesn't exceed a certain number of calories.
@daxingli8882
@daxingli8882 7 жыл бұрын
verdantina Yes, that would be below my calorie intake, and yes, I would probably lose weight, but do you really believe that a cheeseburger and fries wouldn't ruin my body? The unhealthy fats in it would be even worse. I'm not saying I'll never eat junk food, just very rarely. Eating healthier the right way to go even if you don't want to lose weight.

Her victim mentality is the problem? Please, if she doesn't have health problems then the only reason she has that negative mindset is because of how other people treat her and the things they say to her. "You're so fat you're never going to get a boyfriend", "no matter how good your personality is no one will like you if you're fat". I honestly cannot agree with people who say that fat-shaming 'works' to make people realise their weight is 'wrong'. We all go to the doctors. We all look in the mirror. It really does nothing for people to rudely point out "you should lose weight" because we know. Similar situation is if you're not good at maths, then every time you fail a maths exam teachers and classmates call you stupid. You already know you're not good at the subject, but because everyone else does better than you you have to be constantly reminded you're a loser. What does that do to your originally bright personality?

a week and a half is way too short, it usually takes up to 21-30 days for a body to form a habit and start to work with it, when you go running for two hours once a week or two, your body just gets shocks and stores more energy in case of unexpected exhaustion. that's why 30days challenges are so popular, they're not difficult, but force you to be consistent and active at least a bit:)

Losing weight is always hard...especially if you face internal pressure from yourself and external pressure from the people around you. That's why she needs to have more love and respect for herself first, if she doesn't even trust that she can do it, no one can help her through this journey. Weight is just a number on the scale, it doesn't define who you are and what you are capable of.

Being extremely skinny is so desired in the Korean Society that the line between a diet and eating disorder becomes blurred. Yes, if you are overweight or are not happy with your body it's ok to lose a bit of weight to make yourself feel more healthy. But when you are judged completely on your looks it is hard to stop the desire of loosing more. She most definitely has an eating disorder. She needs actual help, not just advice from some people on a TV show.

I'm not an expert but what people need to understand more about losing weight is don't look at the scale. Most of our weight are muscles etc. Even if you consider yourself thin or skinny, high fat percentage is unhealthy. When you exercise, do it for health and your own wellness. As for myself, I'm overweight but trying hard this year to shed those unnecessary fats. Eat the right things. If you don't eat, your body will go into starvation mode which resulted your body to store more fats. Goodluck to those that aim for much healthier lifestyle and love yourself :)

Everyone always thinks that Koreans are naturally thin, which isn’t true, perhaps we lean to a certain frame more, but we aren’t naturally skinny. Our culture actually promotes insane eating disorders, pushing girls to eat less, be frail and offer so many body loss clinics. This isn’t our bodies this is just hurtful cultural ideas against women. This is just an example of how insidious it’s treated, and it really destroys us girls. I have an eating disorder partly because my family makes fun of my frame (I am half korean and my body frame is closer to my fathers so I have naturally wider hips and chest) even though I am consider average and a smaller frame than most body types. At the very least I hope that this video opens more conversations about this and one day accept different body types.

I relate a lot to the older sister, I have younger brother with pretty body shape and SNSDlike-legs (he is manly of course), and here I am, woman with man built (broad shoulder, tall, thick and muscular), and tbh I still haven't find solution because men wouldn't like woman with masculine vibe (I'm girly inside), but my male friend keep saying that act girly really didn't suit me, (my voice also deep like a man) and I'm so depressed.. I just hope I can find my inner peace someday 😢😢😢

'Love yourself and then people will love you back' ~~ This is like a mantra for me to lift up my confident. But there will be a day that I look down on myself but then wear pretty clothes, with high heels and wear make up and chin up! I see a lot of chubby people out there receive love from other people and I'm jealous of that. we are pretty no matter what size we have. Fighting!

im an Asian. My weight is a bit heavier than my group of friends. their weight range is around 44-60 kg and im 63kg with the height of 169cm. But i never tried starving myself just to slim down. i would rather go to gym and slim down, this is much more healthier but being the lazy me i kept procrastinating 😂

Sigh the irony... In my own country, Nigeria I always get comments like: "you need to eat more you're too skinny." Being fat in Nigeria is seen as being a wealthy person. In the Netherlands I got treated the same way. People would be saying things like:"dont your parents have money to feed you?" Stuff like that. So I thing it's everywhere, just like how it's now "a thing" to have big butt and thick lips (also due to social media). Am sorry but this is happening all over the world 😞

I really loved how many positive characteristics her sister listed and her mother said other than her being overweight she has NO flaws. Thanks to the female host. Since she can relate, she had a lot of good advice. The start is to change her mindset. Again. IMO, an eating disorder clinic is the first step. I HATE the commentary from some of these ignorant people and the voting. How can these people not see this as a major concern? Obesity can lead to so many illnesses.

I'm a 12 years old student that weight like 52-53kg. I felt so heavy because most of my friend weight less than 45kg. we have a dance club in my school. All of them weight less than 40kg and it sometime made me really fat. and i just realise that i'm way taller than them. i'm about 163cm. i felt so bad for myself because i can't eat as much food as i want and i'm really young. i start to not ate any sugary drinks and dairy things when i'm in 5th grade. it made me a bit sad because i have a really thick leg and a bit small waist. i just realise i put my standart way too high and it made me stressed. i'm happy with my weight now.

she just has to focus on things other than dieting and losing weight while not going to the extremes, like starving to bingeing. Just maintain a relatively healthy diet with occasional naughty foods and control portions and move around a little and drink enough water. a lot of calories can come from drinks! and staying positive would be awesome too. and if u have things to do other than dieting, ur mind will stay off of food and u won't be eating during that period! (intermittent fasting even if it's just for a couple hours)

that's why solely relying on diets is never the way to go. you can gain it back so quickly. What you want to do is not eat after you exercise (so exercise at like 8:30 ish and just drink water afterwards

Different cases are presented on a single episode, but they break up the episode into the individual cases for youtube. A single episode is pretty long, so they kindly give us the little segments, it is nice, so we dont have to commit to an hour or 2 of an episode to see a single case. However, you can find full episodes as well.

At first I was like "She just wants to eat and used diet as an excuse" but when she spoke of her childhood memory then it hit me. I stood at 138cm with a weight of 30kg until I was 10. I was told to eat and eat until I hate eating itself. I was told to constantly eat food and eat all kinds of weight gain pills and drinks because the doctors diagnosed me with anorexia. I was picked on for being too skinny since I was 4-5 ..Then the weight hit me when i turned 11. I was 161cm and 62Kg ...and I was called fat. Not only I was a fat joke throughout elementary to high school with my peers...It didn't end at home. "Why are you fat?".."nobody in our generation is fat".."exercise and loose the weight".. When i went on a diet and try to eat healthy. "Eat these food"."why? Aunty (my dad's wife) cooking is so bad that you won't eat?" "ungrateful"....I got so pressured that at 15 I went on a "healthy diet" of eating only 500 cal of food in a day. This went on for a 2 months and I lost 20KG. But the joke didn't end. "why diet? you'll gain it all". "you diet?..there's more flabs here". So I turned to exercising and dieting and fasting...Its a roller coaster ride. I gained the weight slowly and lost about 18KG within 2 months while I was on my enlistment at 21. My dad passed away in 2016 and I lost about 16KG. I gained what I lost (Just like the girl say..you'll "reward" when you feel like you hit your ideal). 3 months ago, I brought adjustable bracelets for my wrists. I lost about 1.5 inches off of it and people still say "you gained weight". Yesterday I met my aunties and everyone told me I look significantly slimmer. I noticed.

It's so scary how Korea thinks that Starving Diet is ok when it's not!!! Restricting calories is the hardest diet ever... and she's not going to lose weight because she will continue to binge eat. If someone restricts her diet to a potato, she'll be malnourished and the body will keep everything she eats instead. The starving diet tells the body "I don't have enough food, please store this for me to survive!!". Instead of the starving diet, I think more people should be open to the Ketogenic Diet. Ketogenic diet allows you to be full, thus shrinking your stomach in the process and absolutely no starving. Its the process of using fats instead of carbohydrate as energy. It's the most successful diet that most people can follow so far.
