Thank you so much for your incredible work. I totally depended on these videos for years as a medical student. Finally graduated and wanted you to know how many people are actually learning from you. u have amazing teaching skills, excellent presentation, good humor, btw speed of narration is totally fine, so much content within a short period of time is just what’s needed. Pls keep up the good work. Love from Sri Lanka.

Nice review of aplastic anemia! Just wanted to add that sometimes you can get a hypocellular MDS that looks similar to severe aplastic anemia. Usually cell morphology and cytogenetics will help you differentiate the two (hypocellular MDS you would expect more chromosomal abnormalities, aberrant megakaryocytes + megs will be small in appearance), however clinically they can look very similar. Thanks for the video!

Good day Sir, so I have a speculation as well as to why MCV is high is aplastic anemia.I’d love to know your thoughts. If MCV= Hematocrit(ht)/[RBC] This would mean that a decrease in [RBC] or increase in Ht should give high values of MCV right? We also know that in aplastic anemia, while Ht might remain the same (since all the other hématopoïetic cells are also affected), [RBC] is definitely low, hence giving high MCV values. Just a speculation, please correct me if I’m wrong😊.Thank you.

My daughter starts ATG today. Praying it works for her with little side effects.

I was diagnosed with aplastic anemia with low rbc, low hgb, low hct, high MCV, but high reticulocytes, if bone marrow is not producing enough cells, why is reticulocyte count higher than normal? (Bone marrow cellularity is at 5-10%)

Could be relative reticulocyte count cuz its a percentage of whole blood. If it decreaces less than hct decreases then it’ll appear to increase. Theres a formula to get the adjusted retiuclocyte count in his earlier videos
