I have a friend who was on the haematology ward with me. We both went through pretty intense Chemotherapy together and have become really good friends. I was rejected for a stem cell transplant because I became so poorly on the treatment and was very close to death a few times but thankfully my friend got though his treatment and had a stem cell transplant but unfortunately just over a year later he has told me he has been diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome and I don't know what this means. I was hoping someone here could explain what are his options. He had lymphoblastic leukaemia while on the ward and I don't understand how he could have gotten this after a stem cell transplant. Thank you so much

i have many Qs plz 1- can you re define the MDS in arabic just to figure it out ! 2-what is den ova mutation? 3-in a favorable part>> how is the thrombocytosis could be a good prognosis ,furthermore its unfavorable increase num od cytopenia ....i'm confused! 4-also in diagnosis:how can we see leukoerythroblastosis and the cell is cytopenia?? ill be super apredicated if you just explain it to me .thanks for you time
@MedicosisPerfectionalis5 жыл бұрын
Sure! 1. I can’t explain it in Arabic, sorry...but think about it as bone marrow is dying and fighting for its life, so it keeps sending out crazy, immature cells. 2. De novo mutation means “brand new” mutation that didn’t exist before. 3. If the bone marrow is dying, and we find that it’s still able to produce lots of platelets, then may be that’s good news. 4. Leukoeryhtoblastosis is lots of “immature” cells, but cytopenias is less number of “mature” cells. There is no contradiction. Let me know if you have any questions.
@lamazfarsi68435 жыл бұрын
yes i got it (T) but when i red the definition of MDS>> (steam cell w/ ineffective hematopoietic defect maturation of cell of amyloid )i got lost and confuse!!1! @@MedicosisPerfectionalis

Hello and thank you for this most informative video my mother was recently diagnosed with MDS she is currently 15 to 20% blast with a left shift can you say what life expectancy under these conditions and best treatment she is in her eighties
@MedicosisPerfectionalis5 жыл бұрын
Hey...Thanks for the question...I am so sorry that your mother and you are going through this...Unfortunately, I cannot do that based on this information, only her doctor who knows all her history, physical exam, labs, biopsies and radiology imaging can make that decision....Regarding her age, its harder, but again, the pros and cons of treatment should be discussed with her physician...Sorry I couldn’t help...Also, if she doesn’t like her doctor, both of you can seek a second opinion...Take care!
