Hey Jay. Big fan here, since way back when Masterplan first came out. I'm seeing your comment, wondering if you'd ever consider working with Matthias. I don't know him outside of his KZbin channel, but he seems like he'd be a natural at what you do!

Everywhere I go to watch a Dave Weckl drum cover, there is a great young drummer. Great job. Dave Weckl's influence on drummers is probably the biggest positive influence in modern drumming today and many decades to come.

Dude, you're already Dave Weckl's greatest successor. If I closed my eyes and hear this video, I would honestly think it's Dave Weckl playing the music. I have been a fan of Dave Weckl ever since. Trying to get a yamaha Kit and sabian cymbals (I'm trying to copy him lol).
@MatthiasKnorrMusic3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video. Yes, Dave is one of my biggest influences and I was lucky enough to meet him in person and get some drum lessons from him. Yamaha makes amazing sounding drumkits. The hooklug feature on the Absolute Hybrid Maple & PHX kits is a game changer. So easy to change drum heads if needed. So please check out those series if you want to buy a new Yamaha kit.

@@MatthiasKnorrMusic Will do, can you give me the yamaha kit type. The same that you have please? I would really want to have the full on Dave Weckl Setup.

@@silent_gamer0817 this one is the Yamaha PHX line. It is only available through custom order at any Yamaha dealer. My Setup is: 10x7 12x8 14x13 floortom 16x15 floortom 18x16 floortom and a 22x18 kick without tom mount. I LOVE this kit. The finish is called "Natural Ash Textured". But there are lots of other stunning finishes available. So check those out as wel.

Holy, Matthias that was incredible! I am a huge fan of Dave Weckl, and absolutely love this song, and you did it a really great justice. You're right where I want to be with my own playing! SO with that I have a few questions for you: How did you go about putting this together? How close is it to the original part? also I am always blown away by the fill in the original song that starts on the "and" of 3, but I just can't seem to figure out how to piece together what he's doing just by listening. I was just wondering how much listening and copying you did vs playing things that have the same feel.
@MatthiasKnorrMusic7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, I listened to the original Track a few times before I played my own version and tried to capture the vibe of the tune. Then I put my own elements to it. Of cpurse my biggest Influence is Weckl and therefore the parts are pretty similar to the original. The Fill Dave plays (it actually starts on 1 "and") are 32nd note combinations out of doubles in the hands & feet. If you get the play along track yourself you can also get it with a video of dave playing the song. Try to slow it down and watch what he does :-) Hope that helps a little. Cheers, Matthias

How long does it take you to perfect a song like this? What do you to break down a song like this?
@MatthiasKnorrMusic4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question. I actually studied Daves playing quite a few years and practiced about 6 hours a day when I was in school. I listended to this song a lot before I started to play it. And because I had a few great teachers, that tought me all the basics, rudiments, different styles of music (latin, jazz, pop, rock, fusion etc.), how to listen to music, analyze phrasings and learn them I was able to play-along to this song quite quickly. And when I prepare new material, I mainly listen to the songs over & over again until I really memorized it and therefore I do not need to have sheet music in front of me. Sometimes, if there is no time to prepare that well, I also read sheet music. This one I "just played" after listening to the original recording over & over again. Thanks for checking it out!
@drumsandmore44484 жыл бұрын
Matthias, if I try to do this drum cover, and post it, can you critique it for me and tell me what I need to practice on? I have a cheap audio interface and cheap mics but at least I can show you. It won't be nearly as great as your video. I don't have timbales, it would just be the drums. It might take me 1 month to do so, hopefully it wouldn't take that long.

wow! how long have you been playing? and how do you get that professional drum sound?
@MatthiasKnorrMusic10 жыл бұрын
thanks! I've been playing for about 21 years now. The drums go into my Soundcraft Console and after recording I mix it all with Cubase and some UAD Plug-Ins.
@BeauFerchaud10 жыл бұрын
I do my own recordings as well but my drums don't have that studio sound to them. I'll have to check out those plug-ins. I've been playing for about 20 years but I'm nowhere near the league of drumming you are in. At first I couldn't tell if you were playing to the track with your drums muted but after asking I now know that is the actual sound you are getting.
