Except this movie is clearly a subtly disguised Christian propaganda film masquerading as a realistic portrayal of Mayan (Native) culture. Depicting them as blood thirsty savages who were then redeemed by Christianity (not potrayed but clearly implied) is far from the truth. Most of the accounts that popular thought about the natives is based on is by Spanish and other colonial settlers who had major incentives to exaggerate the savagery of these people so that they may then plunder them as an excuse for introducing Christianity and civilization to the "savage pagans"

There are so many scenes in this movie that from the first time I've watched have stuck with me . I truly love this movie and love Jaguar paw and his tribe or community of people . I'm not sure if Mel Gibson meant for Jaguar paw and his people to be Mayans or just their own community outside of the city of the Mayans . I wanted to see how historically accurate this movie was for the most part . I really loved the ending ... I love how jaguar paw was intelligent enough in avoiding the Europeans at the end , after what history has told us was an enormous mass homicide or basically an annihilation of these tribes of indigenous people as we see Columbus come cruising up. The entire civilization of the Mayans and what we seem to know of them is Incredibly interesting . It's great when film makers like Mel Gibson bring certain topics to people attention , like this entire movie . Throughout this movie I couldn't help feel for Jaguar paw .. knowing situations like this have taken place in the world.. although it was way back in the day , doesn't change the fact that it happened . I believe they should teach this history in schools . Let children know what was really brought about the discovery of America and the fact indigenous people were already here well before Columbus . And because these folks were not nearly as armed as Columbus and his crew . They have writings from Columbus of his experience when coming to America and finding people here before him . What sickens me is the writings of Columbus when he speaks about these indigenous people and how they were so nice and willing to give anything they have .. very generous , although the indigenous people didn't have much tho they would insist that you take it if its needed . Columbus writes how kind the indigenous people are to him . And then he writes right below that how easy it would be to take control of these people and have them do whatever it is you want then to do . He basically lets us know he's a piece of garbage that takes advantage of those who are less fortunate than he is and rather build folks up who have less them him he takes advantage of the situation and takes all off these indigenous folks back to Europe with him as slaves . The thought of someone coming to your home and splitting your family apart , horribly treating your family like their rats and nothing more . Columbus didn't write as tho these people were human , he wrote as if the fact that they were not able to defend themselves they were automatically at the will of his mercy . And he showed his true character by revealing his disgusting heart . Anyone who takes advantage of those that are less fortunate than you or on this case an entire race of people who were just living life in peace before Columbus . Yet , I don't know . I just know in 1493 Christopher Columbus stole all he could see . That's the name of a chapter from a book I have about America history lol anyways this movie was wonderful in many ways . I love Jaguar paw and his father's relationship... His father taught jaguar paw well . Anyways great movie , I love it .

@@cjvaye99 white colonialism is still ongoing if you do a bit of research, and is being sorta hidden/ masked as something else. Literally the reason why Europe is so wealthy is because they stole wealth from other regions around the world and subjugated them mainly Africa for their resources, you see beautiful independent countries now like Japan that only exist because they're country was never conquered by europe because of their lack of valuable raw resources on the island. Looking at the grand scheme of it, Europe is basically westernizing the whole world slowly as their homeland grows more powerful, more powerful in wealth and military dominance compared to other world powers today.

Whenever I watch this I think about those other captives that were just left standing there with their hands tied. I wonder what their next move was. Do you run into the jungle first and then worry about getting untied later, or do you scramble to find a knife and try to cut each other loose first? Trying to cut each other free wouldn't be easy and would take a while and you're bright blue, would only take 1 guy to spot you make sure you don't go anywhere. But running through the jungle with your hands behind your back would not be fun. I think the move is this- you grab whatever knife or sharp object you can find, then run about 100ft into the jungle and try to find a spot out of view behind some big trees, then you take a break and try to cut each other free before you escape to freedom.

It would've been Cool and awesome if The Aztec Would keep Talking in their Language so US Native Americans Indigenous Mexícanos could still talk in Nauhtle (The Lost Language) For all of us Aztec-Mexcia, for all my brothers and sisters.

when we saw this my buddy was like "thats BS, theres no way they could hit them while they were running side to side and at that distance". I thought that seemed reasonable but then i realized that these were their ONLY weapons. for hundreds (thousands?) of years they evolved with them and were masters at using them. just like a marksman today can do amazing things with their weapons so could they with theirs. Native Americans could put an arrow THROUGH a buffalo with the force they could generate with their bows, all while riding on a horse.

I wonder what happened to the other sacrifices that we’re supposed to be “disposed” of, when these guys ran after Jaguar Paw instead. I’m guessing they killed them off screen, left them behind, or it’s a movie mistake.

That's what I was thinking too. I think the other villains propably continued the "game" after Zero Wolf and his 7-8 minions went after Jaguar Paw.

@Edward Vincent Laybourn Waller the rituals, especially the temple heart extraction, are accurately portrayed for the most part. From the blue paint, weapons used, and decapitation. It's the other background details that are inaccurate. In this case the running game may have some inaccurate elements, with the captives running (rather than being bound) through a field, perhaps so our protagonist could escape.

Jaguar Paw doesn't look away until his bro in law gets hit. He's always figuring things out in this movie which is what contributes to him being such a great hero.
