@@lorikhalilaj2991 they both sound excellent, I find the buttons and interface more convenient on the audient device. The duet is sleeker, but the single large button can sometimes be slightly inconvenient when setting levels. I prefer separate it for gain, headphone level and monitor level.

I’ve been using the Duet for Mac/IOS for several years now, I recently bought an SSL 2+ for my 2020 IPad Pro because the Maestro app doesn’t see my Duet when using it with my IPad , sadly when I wrote to Apogee the response I got was that it’s not being supported for usb C IPads anymore. Now the SSL is definitely great for its price range, and it’s capable of 24 bit 192k hd recording, but I have to be honest....to my ears the Apogee just sounds better, especially just when listening back thru monitors bs headphones . The SSL sounds good, but it sounds flatter compared to the Apogee. The sounds just seem to have more depth , like it’s in 3d vs 2d . Yes, there are cheaper interfaces than the Apogee, but I can hear the different between my $279 SSL and my $600 Apogee. I have to agree though that I’m not crazy about the Apogees break out cable vs everything being built into the interface on the SSL 2+.

@@Triumphinchrist1 I was wondering about this. I only have an Apogee Jam right now and have a few different preamps. It sounds amazing with my Studio Projects VTB1 but with my Summit preamp it sounds dull and kind of noisy. @aaronc89673 жыл бұрын
I have the Apogee Duet and the ATH-M50x headphones and listening to music through the headphones is a pleasure - a vast improvement (as it should be) over the onboard audio on my 2012 15" Macbook Pro. As long as your DAC need is listening to music from a USB computer source, I'd recommend it (especially at $120). It's worth noting the only other DAC I've compared it to is the original Apogee Duet Firewire, so I'm not sure what the competition is like these days.

I've been using Duet for the past 4 years and I suggest that if you're a windows user, avoid it at all costs. Drivers are terrible, it's incredibly buggy for using as a default audio device, and this is years after launch. There's a version Avid sell bundled with protools and their drivers and support are so much worse that they'll literally tell you in support reply that "there is no timeline for releasing windows drivers and you should roll back to old windows versions".

@@donnythompson408 Hey there, do you know anything about how does the avid pro tools duet version is working for windows ?
@donnythompson4084 жыл бұрын
Roque Deschamps can’t say, Roque. I haven’t used Avid in a long time. They may have their own proprietary thing with audio drivers, but if PT works with ASIO, it’ll work with the newest Duet which is rock solid in Windows 10. Make sure you get the newest Duet that supports iOS devices, that’s the Duet model that Apogee implemented the software/firmware in for use with Windows 10.

Absolutely. Avoid Windows at all costs.

How do dedicated preamps work? I get the general idea of them supplying x dB of clean gain allowing you to use less of the onboard preamp in an interface, but for some of the dedicated preamp boxes (like the ART Tube MP) can they just be plugged into the interface with an XLR cable like Mic>Preamp input>Preamp output>Interface>PC?

That's a really great review but you made excellent points about the cons. Can you suggest another portable self powered i'face but with the focus on great pre-amps (no noise) / good latency but maybe in the 200 - 400 range? Obvs been looking at the Steinberg UR22 / Komplete 6 and the Scarlet series... Looking for hardware durability too so the Audient doesnt appeal because of the knobs on the top of the interface. What about the Roland Rubix - any thoughts? Thanks so much in advance for responding if you get a chance. Oh, and forgot to mention the dealbreaker - has to work seamlessly also with iOS (iPad mini)!

One Question, what do you thing is more important, having an expensive Mikrofon, or expensive Interface? :)
@Podcastage7 жыл бұрын
Expense doesn't matter. Quality does. You can get good quality interfaces for 1/6th the price (see: steinberg, focusrite, etc.). You can also get good microphones for $50-100 (see playlists on channel). It comes down to the law of diminishing returns, as well as the requirements of whatever project you're working on.
@zezesilver7 жыл бұрын
An expensive audio interface will work an expensive microphone and will improve the sound of a cheap one. A cheap audio interface will work any microphone just fine, yet expensive mics won't be able to show their full character.

I've had the Duet since it first came out. The D/A converter is surprisingly bad for an Apogee product, to my ears. Love the meters. Switching between channels is annoying in use. It's like Apple and their mouses. Mice. Whatever. Yeah, one button looks clean, but in use, it's a pain. Like the form factor, but it has definite drawbacks and the sound quality is mediocre. It's been a love/hate thing for me. Those touch buttons don't work with wet fingers (don't ask). Oh, and the screen is subject to fade and wear over time. It doesn't look pretty forever. Coming late to the party, the MOTU M2 or M4 is an upgrade over this device, at a better price. There. I rhymed.
