@@WinterIsTilted Good that you got yourself a helmet. It's so so important. As for accessories, I actually wrote an article on that here: eridehero.com/blog/best-electric-scooter-accessories/ Some are more nice-to-have than must-have. I'd definitely get some tire slime, and a very bright front light if you are gonna ride in low-light conditions. If you're in a colder climate where you get to experience the Winter, definitely have a pair of gloves ready (you'd be surprised how icy they can get when you've been going 30 mph for 20+ minutes).

Update: after waiting only ~36 hours for delivery(!) I've now had this scooter for 2 days and I couldn't be happier with it. It's very well built and handles well; I particularly appreciate the large wheels and the strong suspensions that make potholes and bumps disappear. I've reached 32 mph in 3rd gear and it's comfortable whereas other scooters get scary, the wide deck is very grippy and the breaks are strong enough that I know I can slow down in time. It's not enough time to fully discover all of its nuances but I'm excited to take it out this weekend and learn more. There isn't much I could say that this review doesn't already cover, but can at least confirm it from experience now :-) I probably wouldn't recommend this scooter to someone who's getting their first one and has only used rentals so far, but as an upgrade it's perfect.

@@eRideHero An update to this thread. About 8 days after I received the scooter and a total of 42 miles on the meter, I started having serious issues with the back wheel which was stuttering and jerking instead of rolling smoothly. So when I accelerated, instead of gradually gaining speed it would rotate in brief stutters as if the regenerative braking was engaging and disengaging several times per second, while making some sort of grinding noise. At first at thought the brake pads were preventing the wheel from spinning freely, but this would happen exactly the same way after I removed the rear brake entirely in an attempt to diagnose the issue. There was nothing _external_ touching the wheel, so this was happening inside. When I spun it by hand, it would be totally silent with no external friction. The issue gradually got worse; maybe 2 days after this started happening, the scooter completely died: pressing the throttle would lead to no movement of the wheel at all, even though it could be spun by hand easily and without any noticeable friction. The dashboard would flash "E 10" a few times, then settle on "E 00" and keep showing this error code. I contacted FluidFreeRide and they soon arranged a call with a technician. He said this sounded like a controller issue and not something I'd be able to fix myself, so they sent me a shipping label to return the scooter and shipped a replacement unit as soon as I had dropped it off. I was without a ride for a total of 14 days, and haven't had any issues with the new unit. Obviously with a single case I have no idea how common this is, but this wasn't a great experience. That said, I can see how this would be missing during quality control since the first scooter did work very well for a week or so. On the plus side I'm happy with the way FluidFreeRide handled it, their support was great.

Ewheels claimed to have a thorough QC check list on every one of their scooters as well. They did not check mine very thoroughly and screws that I couldn't tighten myself got rattled out. And there is an annoying ticking near the front tire area. I guess these companies have to make these claims to stay competitive. The Apollo Explore may have been a better option over my Emove Cruiser, but I like the look of the Cruiser better. Thanks for the great review :-)
@eRideHero
@eRideHero 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that. The Cruiser is a solid scooter and especially the range is a good selling point. I hope you get back riding at full throttle soon and things work out asap. There's always the argument that some things can happen under transport but it does seem like many of the big scooter companies are swamped so it's not unlikely that there's been some rushing past checks etcetera to 16 hours of work into a 10-hour work day. That, of course, doesn't justify anything. Best wishes

I ordered the Explorer (back ordered) but still have time to make the best decision so checked out the Synergy you mentioned. The Explorer has 200w more power, name brand battery, goes 6 mph faster and costs about $300 less (even after all the Synergy discounts). Bro - it's a no brainer - you sure you don't work for Synergy? lol *There's a dual 800w motor version but SALE price is US $2000. However, I am still actively searching to see if there is anything else that is even better than the Explorer under US $1,500 w emphasis on speed.
@x2o1975
@x2o1975 4 жыл бұрын
et quod et You might be quoting US prices. I ended up ordering the Explorer cane to almost $1800 Cad. The synergy is about $300 less bit as you mentioned less power etc. I couldn’t find any review on the Synergy anyways and I definitely like the Explore’s look. Now I gotta figure out if my bike helmet will be fine with this scooter or upgrade to a full face helmet like the Bell Qualifier that I see a lot of people recommending.
@eRideHero
@eRideHero 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Allan, since you mentioned you were unsure about helmets, I thought I'd throw in my two cents. A standard bike helmet is not enough protection for an e-scooter of this caliber. While the top of your head is protected, your chin and face is fully exposed and I've seen many injuries affect this area as well. I personally have the Bell Sanction. I personally prefer a MTB style helmet because it is usually lighter and has better ventilation, but the Qualifier is a sure bet for full protection. I guess it also depends on the climate you live in. A helmet like the Qualifier may end up being too warm if you're in a hot area but I guess that comes down to personal preference. I wrote a guide on e-scooter helmets a while back with some info and statistics as well that I think you'll find interesting. Here it is: eridehero.com/blog/electric-scooter-helmet-selection-guide/ Have a great day!

@eRideHero
@eRideHero 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mauricio! No, I haven't had the chance to try the Apollo City, but it looks like the main differences are less motor power and a smaller battery. On the other hand, you're getting a lighter scooter at a lower price. :-) It's really the balance I'm talking about in the video as well. Some people NEED something lightweight while others prefer to have a little more power. It should be fine for hills (Apollo states an incline rate of 15 degrees is possible). It won't have quite the same pull but it still looks a very capable scooter. Hope that helps.

Two things I would like to see change on this scooter. The folding mechanism on the handle bar would be better if it matched the one on the Emove Cruise where you pull it out to unlock it. This one on the Apollo I feel like the threading would wear off over time. The other thing I would like to see changed on it is a different stem folding mechanism since this one you can accidentally step on while riding.
@eRideHero

Good points - yeah the handlebars are less of a hassle on the Cruiser as they simply click into place rather than having to be tightened. I think Apollo were trying to get rid of any wobble in handlebars with this but didn't nail it completely.

Hi there, haven't heard about a Nanrobot D+ 2.0 before - do you have a link I can check out? It should be said I've never tried a Nanrobot in-hand before so I may colored, but from what I've read, support isn't the best albeit you get a lot of specs for the money. I've read about issues with some of their high-end models in Facebook groups before while others swear by them. I'd personally go with Apollo unless you don't mind end up fiddling with fixes and getting greasy yourself down the line. Repair options seem limited and less attractive than with Apollo. Just my few cents but would love to check out that D2+ of you have a link. Kind regards, Rasmus

It used to be Explore vs City. Now I’m torn between Explore and Ghost! Help me! Lol. I’ve been able to rent and ride the Ghost for a couple of days, and love it, with the only exception being the slightly heavy weight. I’ve never ridden the Explore though.
@eRideHero
@eRideHero 3 жыл бұрын
Totally feel you, haha. Currently testing the Ghost myself and it's an absolute blast to ride. It is indeed a bulky scooter and that's the main drawback with it in my opinion. The Explore is notably lighter but still not an ultra-portable solution. The Explore is a little easier to fold together but there's no keylock installed and you of course only have one motor, though it's still quite powerful. Whether the Ghost is worth an additional $300 really comes down to how you value power versus the larger size and added weight. Battery-wise, they're both 52V 18.2 Ah so the range should be quite similar though you can probably burn through a full charge a fair bit quicker with the Ghost when you have both motors enabled. This isn't really conclusive advice - they're both extremely viable options and I'm sure whichever you go with will serve you well.

@eRideHero
@eRideHero 4 жыл бұрын
Sadly didn't test any upgrades but I'm sure the thumb throttle would be awesome to have. As for power, it's definitely capable of conquering moderate terrain. I tested it on dirt roads and across grass soccer fields and it handled it all quite well. Being a single-motor unit, there are probably things it can't handle, but it easily deals with moderate terrain.
@kimrichmond6308
@kimrichmond6308 4 жыл бұрын
I had the thumb throttle installed - arthritis and very small hands (woman’s medium = men’s xs) makes me more secure. My only gripe is the size of the brake levers - I can only reach with the first joints if my fingers. Not a great deal of confidence for emergency braking.

@eRideHero
@eRideHero 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Khan, sorry for the late reply. The Explore will be definitely be a huge leap in performance from the Xr Elite. If the previous owner has taken care of the scooter, I don't see why not. A little math: if it's been driven for 1200km at an average range of, say, 45.2 km per charge (ESG range test number), that means it's only gone through 26.5 full charges. The performance and longevity of Apollo's Dynavolt-cell batteries are surprisingly good and generally it's fair to estimate a quality Li-ion battery will perform well for somewhere between 500-1000 charges so you should have years of enjoyment from it until the battery may have to be replaced. Other maintenance things include brakes and tires (which is something any performance-scooter owner have to familiarize themselves with at some point anyway) and they're usually cheap (sometimes free) to fix so definitely think it's a viable purchase. Hope that helps!

Hi James. I don't have the exact numbers for you but I'm sure the guys at Apollo will be happy to respond to that if you message their live chat some time through the day. The scooter in this video is a demo model without a front spring so that's the reason for that. The actual/final product available on their website has spring suspension at the front.

Hi - there can be various reasons as to why you experience disc brake rubbing. I recommend checking out this quick video which suggests a few possible fixes. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGTYdHqIdrx6aK8 It could be due to a misaligned caliper but could also be down to dirt, or the brake pads simply haven't been worn in yet. Hope this helps. Let me know if that fixes the issue.

Hi Mark, thanks for the kind words. The Emove Cruiser has excellent range but it lacks a bit in speed so I guess that's the main thing you'll have to consider. Do you want power or range? Personally, I'd go with the Explore but if you have particularly long commutes that require an extra bit of range, the Cruiser is a safe choice. Hope that helps.

Which hand operates the rear brake?
@desmond-hawkins
@desmond-hawkins 3 жыл бұрын
Hopefully you're not still wondering 8 months later, but in case anyone else is also asking: the left hand pulls the cable to the rear (disk) brake. It's like on a motorcycle where it's called the left-hand rear brake, sometimes abbreviated LHRB. That said, most scooters also have regenerative braking so either brake hand will cause the motor to slow down and use some of the kinetic energy to recharge the battery. You can see it in action if you lift the rear wheel and press the throttle then activate either brake: the wheel will slow down significantly. You can adjust the regenerative braking power with 5 levels with the "P-settings" on the Apollo Explore (it's number 11), but if you're asking so that you can drift by locking the rear wheel I'm not sure this would work well due to this feature. I also prefer right-hand rear-braking for drifting on a bicycle but don't really see it happening on this scooter. If it's not about drifting then don't worry about it, use both brakes together and slow down on a straight line if you can. Regenerative braking will help a lot to avoid skidding.

I have the Apollo city and I can’t tell how much range I have left or battery for that matter just bars that don’t help much.
@eRideHero
@eRideHero 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, true - it surely would be nice to have an actual percentage rather than just 5 bars. The entire Apollo line uses the same display. However, as a little comfort: Exact percentages are almost never very accurate because they are calculated based on the current voltage. This rises at high speeds and falls low when riding slowly. This is also why you will sometimes see only 2 bars left when maxing out the 3rd gear only to pop back up to 4 bars when gearing down to 1st.

Measuring battery in hours generally isn't good with e-scooters as it comes down to how you ride it and where you ride it. But you can expect around 34 miles on a single charge riding in eco mode and around 25 miles going in the second gear.

Has anyone noticed the speed and power on their Explore get a lot weaker (espec up moderate hills) after just 5-7 miles? My top speed goes from 31mph to like 20 and up hills not even steep goes from 20+ to like 9mph. Then it’ll randomly get fairly fast again but not frequently.

Then around the 6th or so mile, you try to gun it and it goes 19mph tops and like 8-9mph up the same hills. So far my max ride is 28 miles with approximately 10% battery left - I ride a lot of hills and on some scabby roads in a few places. No range anxiety yet. I typically use my slow charger in the evening, but if I take an early ride I will use the faster one if I’m planning to go again that day. I sometimes ride mornings and evenings with slow charges between. I like to go out on a full charge always, but if I’m not going to take the second ride, I’ll go down to the end of our road and back - about ⅔ mile total just to knock the juice down for overnight if they’re predicting rain in the morning.

Nice review - although it sounds bias. I’ve had my scooter 3 days now and I’m incredibly disappointed. I’ve been riding the Segway Ninebot Max for the last 6 months and “upgraded” to the Explorer. I’m taking my BRAND NEW scooter to the bike store today to adjust the rear brakes because there is a terrible screeching sound when braking and the actual disc is warped and rubs against the brake pads. The standing deck is way too small and you’re incredibly close to the handlebars. You love the handle bar folding mechanism, I think it’s a terrible design. It becomes loose while riding and I’ve tightened that bad boy as hard as I can. Imagine it coming loose while riding 30pmh?!?!? The throttle mechanism is ridiculous - this scooter should come with a thumb throttle (you can purchase this of course). It is much safer and easier to use. Did you mention the rear fender is flimsy and poorly made (Apollo even admits this to their customers....well fix it!). It rubs against the back tire on every single, little bump. The rear shocks are great but the front shock makes a horrible clinging sounds on every bump, like you dropped a coin sack from your roof. The warranty is nice but having waited for 2 months to get my scooter, I can only imagine if you’re waiting for a replacement part, it will take forever. I still haven’t received my helmet or my express charger from them. The braking system is wonky too - when coming to a complete stop while only using the left hand brake, and while at that complete stop, when you release the left hand break, your scooter will actually accelerate a little. It’s jumps forward a few inches. I appreciate your review but you lack candor or maybe you haven’t rode the scooter long enough. Again, it’s only been 3 days for me but there are glaring issues with this scooter.

@eRideHero
@eRideHero 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Christopher, sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience. I personally feel the standing deck is plenty but I guess that depends on the rider. As for the handle bar folding mechanism, it does become slightly loose when going on rough surfaces for me as well, but not to a point where it affects my riding. Hopefully this is something Apollo will address in the future. As for the braking system, I haven't experienced anything like what you're mentioning - it's only been pleasant for me. All these findings come from riding around 120 km on it. I only had it for a period of a few months to test it so sadly I'm only speaking from memory. Sucks about the waiting time as well - from my experience working with multiple different brands, it seems like a general industry problem where shipping and manufacturing delays and a sudden boom in popularity is the reason as to why so many places are on pre-order and shipments don't work out as they should. Experiencing the same right now trying to get reserve parts for my Kaabo Mantis out of China which irregular long waits. That said, I wish you nothing but the best and hope you get back riding smoothly asap. Do update us on how things resolve and thanks for your in-depth comment about your experience. Although we haven't had the same experience, I want nothing but transparency in this industry so it can reach its full potential so I think it's great you are voicing these problems for others to know about and consider as well. Thanks, Rasmus

I wish you would not call these videos reviews - at best they are walk throughs or at worst a long advertisement. A review needs to be conducted by an independent third party and includes both pros and cons. It is rare to hear anything but best possible scenario values for speed and range - we buyers want real world values- not a 130 lb person going 10 mph to drain every last volt from the battery. Reality is far better than optimism as very few small people will be buying a scooter like this.
