On 16 december 1969 the Apollo 13 spacecraft atop the saturn v booster was transported to the launch pad 39A. At a maximum speed of 1.6 km/h (1 mph), it took about five hours to the crawler-transporter to complete the trip from the VAB to Launch Complex 39.

"Hey bill we forgot to check the oxygen tanks in the CSM" "Ah I'm sure it'll be fine."

Well there's your problem. Bill wasn't in charge of checking the oxygen tanks for Apollo 13, it was Sergei.

Ahhh man, I wanted to see how it climbed up the ramp at the end. The crawler/platform must be able to pitch to keep the rocket vertical.

In the movie, they rolled it out to the launch pad just a few days before launch. In real life, it was on the launch pad for 4 months.

I remember this as well, Ron Howard probably made this to give more drama to the flick (not to mention the other things that he changed as well such as the duration of the LM engine burn to put the spacecraft on the proper return path to Earth).

Awesome video. Just Awesome. This is some of the neatest "you are there" video I've seen. It (and the Apollo 13 "stacking video" of yours I viewed just before this) give an incredible idea of the immensity of the Saturn V. Thanks for posting this! I was only a year old and missed all of this. Hoping to have my own experience in my lifetime with the SLS... Where did you get this video??
