I’ve played with it a few times, and the biggest problem is that it’s pretty much impossible for it to reliably generate what you want. With a commission you can always get an artist to tweak a picture, but AI? It’ll just generate a completely different image every time. I think the entire AI industry is being propped up by investor cash doing the classic tech bro thing of “create a monopoly first figure out how to monetize it later), and I think that’s going to fail at some point.

Selling fake pieces of art (by AI) to fund a likely fake bird sanctuary (or a subpar one at best)... no thanks. Either they're scammers or they need to understand they need to put in the efforts and hard work if they want their goals in life to materialize. There is no shortcut. Same for publicity for a youtube channel, you don't get to have free publicity by a bigger channel if you don't produce original content worth promoting.
@TheKatarinaGiselleСағат бұрын
Idk..personally I wouldn’t give a shit about it if they were just honest about it just because I would rather more birds be helped than not. But that’s just me 🤷🏼♀️ then again, ai also wouldn’t care if it were crappy art they were selling to fund it. If people want to help somebody fund their sanctuary, they will. Just be honest about what you are doing.

@@TheKatarinaGiselle I see what you mean, but still, it's not super expensive to commission art. If it's genuinely for a good cause, then there's probably artists who will happily do commissions at a discount or donate art for it so long as they can use it to promote themselves. There's also the fact that anyone who actually has _taste_ won't find the AI art appealing, which means fewer sales.

Sadly not how it works. You could say the same thing about speech yet AI has the ability to hold entire conversations without humans noticing that they are interacting with only an AI. We have no inherent quantifier for how real any experience is that is being communicated, not in words and not in art either. It'll be hard for AI to create a true masterpiece but the vast majority of artists are not making their money by producing masterpieces. The creative market has already been hijacked by alot of things that is interfering with art being a communication of human experiences, think about a board meeting about a movies content where multiple people decide what to cut and keep, essentially replacing the honest communication inside a piece of art with broad appeal. Speaking as an artist, AI can never produce real art but it will however take over a large part of the market that artists occupy because it's already filled with non-real art.

As somebody who came home from school taught himself photoshop to design VHS covers and graphic battle in forums, which later carried me somehow into years working within fashion, cosmetics and now a few years into selling artwork across e-com and the associated marketplaces and being self sufficient. I absolutely champion the value of A.I Art tools. I reconise the littering of poor quality listings and how somebody having done a 6 year art degree would feel by A.I Art tools, but for somebody who taught himself from being a kid like alot of others and subsequently never learned 'the proper way', AI Art tools are perhaps the GREATEST RESOURCE that I could have ever wished for whilst grinding and winging it for 20 years.
@mcguffin99544 сағат бұрын
@callumjames3696 there’s a difference between AI art tools that help in the process of drawing something yourself (no typing in prompts, actual drawing software) and typing in prompts to GenAI and passing off the image as your own work. I agree we need nuanced conversations about the place of AI to *assist* the creative process (such as generating 3D poses for artists to draw their characters over) rather than outright replacing it (typing in a prompt into a program) I heard a great analogy somewhere, wish I could remember who, about calling generating finished images as an artistic process: If a customer comes in and orders an early grey cake with purple frosting and chocolate decorations, the baker is the one who bakes the cake to their specification. It would be crazy for the customer to take the cake the baker made and then say they baked it themselves, having never even put flour to hand, right?

The main problem with AI art is that it steals the real art that people have made. The AI can’t create anything on its own. It trains off of what real people make and create and doesn’t give them any credit. I’ve seen lots of artists find their literal artwork “produced” by the AI and not give them credit. People will type in an artists name to get an image that looks like the artist they want. And a lot of the time it’s not even an amalgamation of that persons artworks sometimes it’s literally just taking the whole piece and spitting it out for someone to steal (again). The other issue is social media sites are now letting their ai programs to train on the art people are posting on the site and nobody was told. I can’t stand it, as someone who draws and is learning how to make art myself it’s frustrating to see something I work so hard learning and getting better at over time because 1. I want to get better and 2. I enjoy it, being cheated by people who type a few words into a computer to get to the end the easy way. All that to say AI art is theft. It’s the cheaters way.
@meganjaime77284 сағат бұрын
To add to this lengthy comment there is an artist, Greg Rutkowski, who is suing certain AI companies because they are stealing his art. People are literally trying to type “so and so’ art style” to get something that looks like he made it. And he’s a painter, so for him the art takes a long time. It’s also so beautiful and detailed that the fact it’s being ripped off is just so insulting.

Also, AI takes a lot of energy and even uses water (to cool the computer systems) so it’s not good for the earth as well as hurting artists 🥲 Honestly, drawing a picture yourself, even if it looks awful lmao, is precious because you did it. I still have a bunch of art from girls I babysat and I love and treasure them all. Art doesn’t always have to look good to have value, if it’s a gift you don’t have to turn to AI to show your care.

I was at the store recently and they had woolen socks on a stand with some lamb pictures on it. Those pictures were AI. Is it really SO hard to find a picture of a real lamb?? As an artist I'm very happy you're speaking about this

AI Apollo became a thing, wow 😳. Should we be afraid?
