Love your videos. So peaceful and instructive. Apollo is one blessed shire, having you as his owner.

Wow, cool curly mane and tail on those two! Drafts are my favorite. Thanks so much for sharing. I love seeing Apollo,, but it's also super fun to see the Belgians, Percheron, Clydesdales, Fresians, and of course Shires.

I’m from the uk. I used to show shires in all their glory. I agree with you they are magnificent animals.

Very impressive, well cared for drafts. I love the way the ground shakes when they thunder along as a team. I watch a Belgian rescue on Utube. These working horses are used, neglected, worn out, and then sold for slaughter. Breaks my heart. The other side of the coin, these families that love and pamper these wonderful majestic creatures. In a perfect world...

I love draft horses been around them my whole life - logging, farm, driving, riding. They are some of the sweetest, kindest horses you can be around. Many people are unaware of the atrocities in the show ring that need to be stopped The mutilated tails, the grossly overgrown feet, & lastly the thin almost a wire overcheek bit. If you look in the mouth on many of them, you will see a red line on the palate from that bit. By far the worse is the tails. Budweiser as of this year no longer "docks" tails, it would be nice to see the rest of the industry follow suit.

Oh good to hear that! Hopefully they will lead the process to stop this stupid ancient procedure of amputating their tails! Also, I wasn't aware of the feet, other than they looked a bit strange, but why?
@monaliberty47311 ай бұрын
@@a2Flisa The bigger, heavier the foot the more action - higher they pick their feet up. A lot of blame can rest on the judges that keep pinning these exaggerated practices.
@a2Flisa11 ай бұрын
@@monaliberty473 Ok, thanks! Yes, for sure, many judges are more interested in "the free lunches" so to speak. and the 'fame'! This can be seen in other species as well! Always sad to watch! But not as common in Europe as in the States, I think (I'm from an EU country)!

Arlin Wareing is looking great, I have had the pleasure of speaking with him at events over the years. He inspired me with his vast knowledge of the breed and is a fine man. Thanks for sharing, and sending best wishes to you and Apollo from me and my Shire, Hamish. Draft horses really are wonderful.

I was 7 or 8 when I got the experience of a lifetime, when my friend Susan had a cousin visiting and they were traveling with their horse a Shire. I got to sit on it and it was like being 2 stories high. The hoofs of the shire were like dinner plates to me. I made sure to keep my feet away from them. Sitting on the Shire, like the kid on the Percheron, was greatest feeling in the world.

Write a children's book about Apollo and illustrate it with your art. Every child needs to hear the story of resilience and hope and unconditional love that you and Apollo share.

Magnificent skyscrapers. What a treat this was just to hang out with these beautiful horses. There is nothing nicer than the smell of a well kept horse barn. I once bought some natural shampoo from someone and said it smelled like a horse barn....she didn't quite get my meaning! Glad to now connect with Mr. Arlin Wareing...a terrific family and what a legacy. Thank you for this very intimate and special behind the scenes opportunity. Hugs to Apollo 😻

Stunning beautiful draft horses Santiago, there is another breed of draft horse called the Suffolk Punch, as far as I know this breed is struggling, when it comes to the size of these huge horses most of the time only their height is mentioned, not the size of the body or hooves, they’re certainly something to behold, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧

Been many years since I heard mention of Suffolk Punch. Was afraid they were lost as a breed.

No one wanted a drink before loading. Just like telling a kid, “you better go to the bathroom “ before a long car ride! And what happens, an hour later? Got to stop for a bathroom break! That’s what I keep thinking “ you’re going to be thirsty in an hour”! Just like a kid that doesn’t listen! lol! I know they are well looked after while traveling but the mama bear in me was shaking a finger!
@alycewich44729 ай бұрын
I thought it was wonderful that they gave each and every one a chance to get a drink before being loaded, even though none of them seemed very interested. Excellent training for longer rides.

Oh, there's a purpose bred Percheron/Friesian mix? They sound (and look!) lovely. I wonder if a Shire/Friesian mix exists, anywhere? Your channel, Apollo's journey and transformation greatly contributed to my shift in perspective regarding draft (as we say here "cold blood") horses. I was blessed with opportunity to rescue a draft filly with her mom and I never thought this will be "my" horse. Seeing your work with Apollo and other riders on their gorgeous horses, from Percheron to Belgians opened me up to different perspective. I'm going to give Eve (after the robot in Wally, she makes a similar sound to Wally trying to beep out Eve's name for the first time ^^) 2 year's of growing and maturing into her size but she's already proving to be everything a dream horse should be and more. I wonder - does anyone have any experience with horse chiropractic & therapeutic massage? It sounds like something her mom would benefit from, but I've heard of risks in humans and I wonder if it's safe in horses, provided a reputable practitioner?

Wonderful horses! ❤ But it makes me sad to see that their tails are cut off. 😢
@a2Flisa11 ай бұрын
I was just going to comment on that! *Not* loving to amputate their tails, in my opinion! Potentially creates hypersensitivity and or pain in the stump, balance(?). Other effects related to docking; horses’ welfare linked to insect harassment and hygiene, communication and reproduction! Please, Americans, stop this inhumane and totally unnecessary procedure NOW!
