I totally agree… there isn’t one right answer, lots of possibilities depending on the horse and owner.

There was so much info to share in one video if I had added it all it would be 5 hours long. 😂 I’m also realizing I left things unsaid that I wish I hadnt, I suppose I could have switched this topic for that topic but then there would be a whole new set of question. I had video of lots of this but I dropped my hard drive about a year ago and lost about 2 years worth of clips in particular his first year with me, I was devasted but there was no saving the files 😩 So to better explain : When I first got him, He was skinny, but still heavy horse, and I started getting him healthy/fattening him up, it wasn’t instant, the discovery of his feet issue, he can’t talk or tell us. So he had gained some weight. However his foot pain got so bad, he wouldn’t walk on hard surfaces. Cement, stone, asphalt, even hard dirt, he would refuse it cause him so much pain. He only wanted to stand in his soft padded stall. Makes it really difficult to work with him, or take him to the vet or do just about anything. but once we realized it was because of how thin his soles were, it was then that we decided to put him on a diet ( “starvation” I realize now was a strong word but I can’t change it in my video 🙄) put him on a diet to alleviate the pain in his feet by losing some weight. 2000lbs is a lot to stand on so every pound counts. We watched him very closely and took everything slow as to not cause more harm. Once it was obvious his feet were feeling better & that was sorted then it was time to get him healthy in every way. It was tricky and might seem confusing to some. If you weren’t there it’s hard to explain or describe all the reasons or discussions. With equestrian stuff they say, it’s two steps forward one step back. Thanks for watching, please share 🙂

@@apollotheshire It made 100% sense to me even though it sucks for the horse and sucks as much or more for the owner to watch. It's similar to a human losing weight to get pressure off the the knees and ankles. It was essential to get the weight off his hooves so they could heal and relieve the pain, otherwise you can't even begin to address any other issues he had. The end results speak for themselves. He's healthy and happy
