SO... I've done the compatability fix, the run as admin fix, the ini was already preset to what I was told needed to be fixed, tried FOSE (got the unknown version error which led me to this), and tried this (installed properly and patched), BUT, I've still got nothing, click the play button on Steam, splash comes up, click play on splash, splash closes, steam button turns green again and game just never runs. What now?

@@fatoot7889 Yep, worked just fine. I used the TTW version - the only real difference is that it doesn't add the 4GB LAA patch or automatically load FOSE.

I can't seem to get FOSE to work still. Patcher says it's already patched, FOSE cannot detect what FO3 I'm using, and vortex/manual installing mods don't work :/

Hopefully you can reinstall the game fresh, but I installed from steam. I installed vortex mod manager and logged in. I did the ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated to get HD textures working. "Not related" I did the downgrade version patcher from video, followed all instructions. I installed FOSE manually. v1.3 b2 I installed FOSE using Vortex, Mods and put fose folder in the "Drop File(s)" It auto installs. I start game using regular launcher, type the getfoseversion "shows 1" Note: I played game and checked mods working with the Aim Down Sights mod, and it worked. Modding FO3 is great, just note that it doesnt autoinstall All mods, you need to make sure its in the Mods list Enabled.

I checked with commands to see if fose was running and it was, the game seemed to be working and i even killed a few rad-roaches escaping the vault, eventually i started fighting a guard and my game froze soft locking my computer, i just want to play my game without all this bullshit its really frustrating

I followed the instructions you gave, and I can get the game to launch and play, however only through the .exe file or steam, and not my mod manager (Mod Organizer). When I set it to fallout 3 in the mod manager, it will try to launch for a split second and then give up. Also, and i'm sure this is related, but none of my mods will load. Any tips?

i had to buy fallout again on gog. but here just installing, modding and playing worked like a charm. i had a lot of fun playing fallout 3 and new vegas. (even though 3 was a little bit annoying because i struggled to navigate the city through the tunnels.

i just got the problem fixed. there was a "Fallout3ng.exe file in the game folder, that one was the correct version (1.7). i renamed it to "Fallout3.exe" and it worked. @@KoljaWolfi
