Interesting how the Spanish Inquisition occupies such a prominent place in Western imaginations, yet it is but a fraction of the most recent atrocity befalling Christians in the middle east, let alone what has been happening for nigh on millennia.

Or how people (though usually a thing kids learn about and end up saying) go on about the crusades as one of the first things they learn and srart repeating about the irrationality of their faith.

Well the inquisition was founded to hunt conversos that still practiced Judaism in spite of converting to the true faith

Christians truly embody the idea of “crying out in pain as they strike you”. It’s hilarious watching you cry about oppression when it’s obvious you’re only sad it’s not you do it.

Very much appreciated this AM. I've been sorely tempted to ask people caught up in the rights and wrongs of the current Mid East crisis about the Armenians being expelled. Where are all the flags for that? Looking forward to the next part. Thanks again.

To be fair though, when in history did people see Armenia as a centerpiece of history to be noted? All the way back to Antiquity they're a regional power but their place in the story in the common imagination is always the herald of a wider imperial conflict, elicited by shenanigans in and around Armenia or its royal court. This, tragic though it may be, was a regional conflict within the territories and all the empires around it have bigger fish to fry at the moment so they're entirely neglected, it's not something without reason.

@@theeccentrictripper3863 At one time in history, we were a military rival of the Romans. I would wager we were regarded with some supra-regional sense of importance then.
@theeccentrictripper3863 Жыл бұрын
@@surengrigorian7888 I dunno about rival, perpetual thorn in the side maybe, eternal cause of wars between Rome and Persia definitely, but I can't remember a war where the Armenians fought Rome to a standstill, especially in the open field as opposed to their mighty mountains.

All this is especially fascinating to me because the literal echos of these conflicts permeate where I live here in California, we have a massive Chaldean community here and the churches to go with them; you can hear Aramaic here and there when you're out and about as frequently if not more than other minority languages depending on the place.

Hi. We know very well thar Middle Eastern empires were not by any way genocidal. They were extremely tolerant and there is a historical consensus on that. The tragedy of Anatolian Christians is because of the acceptance of European nationalistic ideas.

@@johnmanole4779 the crusades were for the protection of the Eastern Roman Empire and then in defense of the Crusader states, not to expand Christianity. After all, they had been their first in comparison to Islam, by a wide margin. It was about protecting the Christians of Asia Minor and Greece from the invading Muslims, who had been harassing the Greeks for centuries. This resulted in the punishment of the Sultanates by creating Christian states, which had a very high Christian population beforehand as well. The next crusades were in defense of these states in fear of great persecution and ethnic cleansing of Christians should they lose. That is exactly what happened once they did.
