My big mama had an acre garden just outside of Fayetteville about 13 or 14 miles. She raised eight children, 22 grandchildren out of that garden. They raised their own meat and did not want for much even during the depression. It was a lot of love and good food in that little house. Probably why I love watching your channel. Our family was blended and full of music, gospel and lots of memories of fishing at the river and in the ponds and lakes. Great times

Growing up, my grandparents had 3 fishing ponds behind their house, in central North Carolina. Once a year, the fish became overcrowded, so they would use a huge net to seine the ponds. A huge cast iron stew pot was set over an open fire and filled with oil. They brought the fish in, cleaned them and fried them in that huge pot. We always had vegetables straight from the garden, corn, tomatoes, and I loved whole cucumbers, and ate them peel and all. It's been over 60 years and I remember it like it was yesterday. I love hush puppies, so that hush puppy cornbread is on the menu.

What a wonderful meal you’ve whipped up for your family. I’m a happy guy anytime I am fortunate enough to have fried fish, taters, hush puppies and coleslaw. Nothing says “country cooking” better than a meal like this one. Now, your also starting to enjoy the homegrown vegetables from your garden. I know that y’all are looking forward to a summer full of fresh produce being harvested. God is good and His blessings include good food for us to eat. I enjoyed this video, it made me me hungry for a meal like this. Thank you for sharing. - Tennessee Smoky

When I was a teen, my dad would fry us fish he caught, make salmon patties, and thick fried ham sandwiches. He also made the best chocolate malts. Fall and winter, every Sunday morning, mom made orange rolls for us kids. Before church she would stick a roast in the oven. Mom usually had a big pot of chili on the stove. Dad liked to cook. Mom loved to bake (cheesecakes, Pecan Tarts, Butter Horns, Cinnamon Rolls, etc.) She enjoyed making candies too. Especially at Christmas time. Divinity and fudge. My sister and I bake as well. I enjoy making breakfasts and soups. Sis enjoys canning.

That was so interesting Matt, insight as to what a Manly Man as I have heard Tipper refer your Holler the things that might be necessary in your way of life. I love hearing every thing all of u share about your daily life in Appalachia. I do so love that I am now so embedded in your lives which is now a Big Part of my life. Don't feel satisfied until I have seen or heard from you all. I am so lonely for my Glenda and seeing u help me in so many ways. So sorry Grannie is having this issue, praying for her to be able to get through her treatment with the least of I'll effects. Just listened to Paul & Pap do Never Grow Ole, can't stop the tears, love Paps voice. Feeling so sad for all our sad times this year, Miss Cindy, Glenda and for the interruptions life has delft us that only God knows why. 🙏 😢 With his help we will Survive, our Faith will get us through all things planned and not planned. Please Keep me in your prayers as I will you and yours. Wish I could sit down with u all and enjoy that good meal u are preparing now. It's now 2 am Oct 17th another night can't get to sleep. Tipper Thank you for doing what u do, you will never know how u Bless us. As for me I count u my family, and can't be without the comfort of making u a part of my life. ❤ tears 😢 here of joy to be Blessed to feel such a part of belonging to someone never met face to face.Hugs & Love ❤️

I’m with you, Tipper! I’d rather have fish than steak, chicken, or any other meat on the planet especially if it’s fresh caught and fried up crisp. We fry our fish outside too, and always have slaw, some kind of potato, homemade tartar sauce, and sliced cucumbers & tomatoes in season. Can’t wait to try that hush puppy cornbread. A home cooked meal with family gathered around is a priceless treasure, providing memories that will last down through the generations. ❤❤

Tipper and family…thank y’all for this video…my neighborhood here in Cleveland TN. used to have a fish fry after a good day on the water during the summer where all the fishermen and fisherwoman (my late wife Terri was always lucky with a rod and reel) would meet up at a neighbors house and cook up a feast (we also did ramps back when we were free to gather them)…I’m 70 now (a widower for 6 years) and your KZbin content always takes me back to the good memories…may God continue to bless you and yours 🙏🙏🙏.

Tipper, my Daddy would fish at Lake Sam Rayburn, not far from our house on El Camino Real, The King's Highway, and fillet up a lot of fish and make hush puppies!! It was amazing!! It was Crappie, which I loved. And I was never a bit picky, so I much enjoyed all the bounty!! Tonight watching you made me miss my dear DADDY. As a child, we often visited Gulf Shores, Alabama for a family vacation. Mind you, it was NOTHING like it is today. It was wonderfully rustic and there was not a high rise to be seen. But we sure did love all the good eating, fresh fish including Hush Puppies! One night my mom decided she could easily duplicate that recipe which was on the back of a bag of local flour. Well, we were all excited! And let me tell you ... they were the most horrible things we ever ate. Hard as rocks! Years afterward, we still laughed about it. In the Midwest, we eat fresh, fried fish with lots of melted butter and herbs such as tarragon and garlic. Y'all sure had a long day. Soon, you need to get a dishwasher. I'm single ... but I would never ever live anywhere without a dishwasher. If you do a bit of searching, you can still find one that is portable ... and would easily slide into that empty space right side of the sink. ... Don't see "Tate's" cookies ... someone had a great snack ...

Hi Tipper! It's a home grown supper! So special. I love thinking about in generations past everyone ate that way. Food they raised or hunted and how special it tastes. We always fished in the river around Fresno when I was growing up. We would bobber fish in still pools and catch blue gill and crappie. They were so delicious. I too cleaned my fair share. You know you don't have to filet brook trout, just head and gut them, dredge them in flour and pan-fry them (in bacon fat). The meat peels away from the backbone, fins & ribs leaving you with a perfectly safe - and delicious - meal. The skin gets crispy and delicious because there are no scales! That's the method that has come down the generations of my family for over 100 yrs. Jeepers, I haven't had speckled trout in a hundred yrs. I gotta find a source now.

I can't remember if I've shared this with you or not...if so, here I go again! HA My uncle owned a resort in Grand Lake OK and we would go down there several times a year. On year we caught around 100 fish (bass, crappie) and this man asked dad if he was going to fillet them. Dad told him he didn't know how, so the man showed him and they got them all filleted. Come to find out the man was a SURGEON! No wonder he was so good at it. He told mom how he made them...pancake batter and 7UP. It was the best fish we ever had.

Our 14 year old granddaughter is very good at filleting fish. Her grandpa cuts the head off, guts them, and then she takes over with an electric knife. Nothing better then fried fish. We coat ours with Andy’s seasonings. Our Walmart sells a couple varieties.

Maybe it's my Scandinavian heritage but, I could eat fish for breakfast. The plate of garden goodies was always there at our fish fry. We called it rabbit food. The potatoes are great like you fix them, Tipper. We sometimes shake some parmesan cheese on them. Slaw always is good at a fish fry. One thing that my granny always put in her "fish slaw" was yellow salad mustard. We're gonna have to try the hush-puppy corn bread. What a feast. Matt cooks and seasons food like I do. Loved this one, Tipper
