Hi Ramdino, just wanted to send a PSA for all the new hikers in GA. We were out on the Bartram Trail near Dillard GA on Saturday and came across a rattlesnake sunning him self. Our dog alerted us and everyone is safe. Used our trekking poles to move him off the trail

Talked with a NC Forest Service ranger today. He said they often burn balds to keep the trees from coming back in. He said Native Americans did this years ago. He also told me that they will often spray water on the trails to keep them from burning. I never knew this. Hope things went well with your friend.

I lost both of my best friends/ Brothers last year 6 days apart. I miss them every single day. It hurts but I take them(their ashes) on every hike with me. I don't hike, but always keep a sports drink like Gatorade on hand, especially during warm weather when we're outside a lot. LMNT would be easier to store, and probably healthier.

I suspect burning that field creates a fire break. That is, as long as the fire is not so hot and powerful it throws wild sparks afar or creates its own weather system. And as long as the birds of prey didn't deliberately spread it either. Do birds do that there?
