Ramdino, if they ever give an award for what you do, it should be a Golden Bust of YOU! Thank you for what you do...... Now, my son is a Sargent in the Marine Corp. I raised him and my daughter alone and in church (wife left loooong time ago). Well, he told me a few years ago "Dad, I don't believe in God." I didn't know what to say, but It dawned on me right then (and I said to him) "God understands that too." Hope that gives you some kind of comfort. A lot of folks praying (I hope). Not saying anything, but with humility knowing and acknowledging that God's grace is sufficient. And remember "If my mama don't goooo, won't hinder me. I'm on "MY" way, praise the Lord, I'm on my way!" .....And, GOD BLESS THE "TRAIL ANGELS"! 🙂

Good job. It looked like a Garter snake. I saw a bunch of them in Virginia hiking. You probably already know about the Farout app. It really helps keep you on trail. When you get to Central Virginia, stay at the Quarterway Inn. Tina is great.

Praying earnestly for your friend, and thanking God for the work that you are doing. I grew up in Maryland, and my dad took guys on the trail year after year. He didn’t feel it was safe for his daughters, so I never got to go. Now I’m living in Oklahoma, and my husband and I have been hiking more and more. We’re looking forward to a trip to the AT. Your updates are keeping me in the loop!

I remember the church that did Trail Magic at Unicoi Gap in 2019 very distinctly. They were incredibly kind and one lady took a bunch of time to encourage me and just be a blessing. I'm glad to hear they are still doing it. Wish I remembered her name or the church's name. :)

Yesterday (3/16) we did trail magic at Wayah Bald tower and fed about 23 thru hikers! Great conversations. My friend, who is new to the community was floored by the commraderie amongst all the different people and joyous spirits. It was non stop smiles for 5hrs! 🤗

Blood Mountain is in Wilderness so the blazing and signage is less than you would have on non wilderness lands. Pay attention. At the last big rock face the trail makes a sharp left back into the woods. That’s where a lot of people just keep going straight. If the weather is really bad, you can take the Freeman Trail. It’s not an easy trail but it keeps you off the summit in lightning.

I hiked down Blood Mountain on Wednesday, 3/13/24, and had to check FarOut at least 3 times to make sure I was still on trail and to figure out which way the trail went. I agree that the path down to Mountain Crossings isn’t well-marked.

That's a good point about wearing too many layers to bed. My sleep system is extremely primitive, just an ancient Thermarest self-inflating pad under me, and a puffy blanket over me. So I rely mainly on my clothing for warmth. But I put on just enough layers to be comfortable, but not toasty warm. As it's unlikely to get warmer overnight, I never wake up hot. Occasionally I may wake up cold, and put on another layer.
