I thru-hikedin2021 - it took me seven months - I am a slow hiker but I think taking my time helped avoid injury and contributed to the success of the hike. I ended up flipping up to Katahdin from Harpers Ferry and then hiking back to Harpers Ferry SOBO from Katahdin. That took all the pressure off of having to meet the "deadline" for camping on Katahdin and made the hike so much more enjoyable. Best of luck! 🙂

Thank you! I'm a pretty slow hiker too, and I think that's okay. Everyone is different. I hope to finish on Katahdin, but could make it a flip flop if I get worried about making it in time before closure of the mountain for the season.

Wow, you really did hike your own hike and you’ve given me inspiration. Many hikers should consider a plan like yours.

I'm so glad to have found your channel today! I'm a 46 year old woman and I know I'm going to do this one year soon. 😊 Until then, I love following hikers on their journey. I've subscribed and can't wait to watch you hike! Sending you my best!!

Thank you! I greatly appreciate that. Try to work it out and do your own journey as soon as you can - the 40s are the best decade as far as our well being I think. I can tell a definite difference in my physical capabilities within the last few years.

Thank you, and you are welcome. I hope I can provide as much enjoyment to others as those who hiked and vlogged did for me in the past. 😊

Having a support vehicle should give you a HUGE advantage. "Yellow Blaze the Hills" is what Grandpa said. Kidding about the yellow blazing, but to have a car waiting at trailheads for re-supply and "town" will make it less stressful.

It is definitely a blessing and has already relieved much stress. Except that some may think it’s ‘ cheating’. But maybe a cold drink and ride to town may assuage those who do. 😉

Watching your journey is going to be a blast. Since my back surgery the middle of last year I don't get out to hike like I want to but I do go walking here and there. I may be heading to my home state of West by God Virginia to recover for awhile. God Bless

Thank you. I'm sorry to hear about your back surgery, but hope you recover enough in the future to get out hiking. We are very blessed to have so much natural beauty here in West Virginia. It's a bit of a shame more of the AT doesn't go through it.

I suspect we will wind up in the same place at some point not too far from the start, and I'm looking forward to it. 🙂

Most have a “why” they are hiking the AT. Do you have a “why?”

I talk about my 'why' in my Thru Hike Announcement video if you want to check that out. In short, I have several things I consider my 'why', but when it comes down to it, I've had a long interest in the AT, have section hiked a good bit in the south and always thought a thru hike would be an outstanding experience, and in 2022 felt a 'nudge' to do a thru hike in 2024. This is a good time in my life since I begin drawing full social security in April.
