Beautiful video, beautiful hiking. Doing so great. Happy Trails Recommendation- the 16 times equal to climbing Mount Everest you will be doing (equal ~ 4 million steps) I highly recommend finding another way to store your tent.- too much weight at such a high point… too far away from your center of gravity. Surely while on break you can reconfigure your pack load out?… maybe even a pack shakedown.. to free up space?. Good luck.

Thanks! That is my ursack and food on top. Even worse! Lol Pack is a small Kakwa 40 liter. Starting weight with 5 days of food was 23.5 lbs, so it is already down as low as it can go for winter camping. I have the new 55L Kakwa pack on pre order from Durston Gear. Arrival is supposed to be Feb/Mar. so making do until I get it. 40 liter Kakwa is comfy even with weight on top though. No back pain or shoulder pain at all.

So glad that you had beautiful weather and a clear day to do Blood Mountain. When I came through last March it was rainy, sleeting, foggy, windy, and freezing cold. I was so ready for one of Mountain Crossing's famous frozen Red Baron pizzas which they serve right on top of the cardboard box. As I walked around the store waiting for it to cool, the whole pizza slid off the shiny packaging and onto the floor. Picked it up and ate it anyway. Just one of those days on the AT which you no doubt will experience soon enough. --Pale Rider

I am glad we had good weather too. Can’t imagine doing it in icy conditions. Probably not the first time someone are a pizza off the floor there. lol

Thank you so much! I watched a ton of other AT videos too in the last few years to get ready. I wish I could capture how beautiful the trail actually is. When I edit my videos I always wish the camera did a better job of showing the depth and scale of the views.

Hi guys. Congrats on getting to Neel Gap. So exciting getting there. I remember so well sitting on the picnic tables eating a well earned pizza. Hope you were able to enjoy some there!!!

We thought about the pizza but we ended up getting a burger since my husband picked us up. After 5 days on the trail we had to do a drive up window, not going inside. Lol.

Really nice video and editing....I believe you are using the you tube "licensed" music that is being pushed now by you tube ....but your using Capcut editing software...how do the 2 work together?? Or what music are you pulling from in order to not get dinged by you tube for licensing???
@hikingmovie Жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes using CapCut for editing. Just using copywrite free music from KZbin that I have downloaded, so no issues.

The Appalachian trail was not created fur your hob nailed orc boots. They had smooth soled shoes that did not disturbed the soil. From 1970 the trail was earth and now a two foot deep rut of roots and rocks. Fill it back in!

The mice don't mind sharing their shelters with you! What is your approach for dealing with them? (I've a few more then a few patches on my pack)
@hikingmovie Жыл бұрын
I put rocks over the drain holes in bear boxes and store my pack in there when there is room. So far not many people at shelters so that has worked well.

I’m loving your video work and editing. I saw you are using an iPhone 13 Pro Max. What are you using to edit and upload your videos? Amazing work. I retire from 32 years of military service this year. I am planning to thru hike the AT next year and I want to vlog it to raise money for a military mental health charity. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I am anxiously awaiting your future videos. Best of luck to you two!
@hikingmovie Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I use capcut to edit and upload now but used iMovie for older videos pre AT. Both are free apps. Spent the last year doing hiking videos and learning iMovie but it is limited. Just switched to capcut so still learning that. Wish I had used it all along-I would be a lot faster. So start practicing now. Lots of helpful KZbin videos out there on the apps. Thanks for your service and good luck on your fundraising and your hike.

Definitely hard to get off trail but we will be back soon. Actually finishing up the Foothills Trail while I am home. The last time I hiked it I had to get off because of my knee on January 1st. Only needed about 15 miles there to complete that for the third time. So I will still get to hike some while I am taking care of my family stuff.
