This advice from a retired wild camper is probably too late but here goes. When taking on hikes in potentially challenging/life threatening conditions, preparation is everything. All essential kit should be checked out ahead of time. Water, shelter, warmth and food are top priorities. Everything has to work reliably.

That too is our favorite tent as well. We have use so many and always go back this tent ⛺️. As we know not one tent fits all. Lucky you guys found yours. ❤😊⛺️ (Beth)

We had a Big Agnes tent and we ditched our ground cloth early in our thru-hike. The tent held up very well without the ground cloth. Just try to clear the area of sharp rocks and sticks as best you can. Hope you got a good sleep, you really needed it! Stay safe!!

Foot print is just to help keep tent bottom clean and free from punctures. Many people don’t use them, that’s why they are usually sold separately.

I have both the tents you have. IMHO, the ground cloth for the BA is nice but not needed. You have to be more careful to not get a puncture in the floor. It will be fine. The upside to the z packs (which I prefer) is that the fabric will not wet out and is actually water proof. After a long night of rain it will not hold any water. The BA can wet out and hold a good bit of water adding to the weight. Condensation in a single wall tent just is... it doesn't bother me. YMMV. :)

Yay, Doug is coming to see me! lol I’m his other friend that lives in Hilton Head. We will not be hiking! We will be sipping cocktails with cute little umbrellas in them on the beach. Good luck with the new plan!

You never showed the iconic vt/nh state line on the bridge. When you told me you were jumping ahead that weekend I was thinking further north and was surprised to see where you landed. Hope you are doing well, don’t let labels get into your head of thruhiker, flip flop, sectional etc and get discouraged…you are out there doing it and that’s all that matters.. you hike what works for your situation. The experiences will last a lifetime not the label.. Thanks for taking us along.
