What a magnificent home. My brother-in-law (a builder) and sister restored a similar 7000 SF ante-bellum mansion in downtown Norfolk (VA) back in 1990. It was owned by Old Dominion University and had also been condemned and slated for demolition. They bought it from ODU for $100,000 and restored it to pristine condition over a year+. Turned it into a successful B&B and sold it after about 10 years.

So many old homes that would be lovely to restore. I wish some of the millionaires and billionaires would invest in these instead of some of the trash things they support now days. I truly would if I could. Thank you for the tour. It is indeed a lovely spot for a big old house. I wish more of the gardens had been left. Sorry she got emotion at the end. Best wishes to them.

Can you imagine each area restored to how it was dressed back in those days. Close your eyes and go back in time. I can imagine the dinning areas and Sitting rooms, the busy kitchens, ladies and gentlemen of all ages sitting down drinking tea in China Cups and saucers, chatting away, the children singing and laughing as they play and skip around. I would so love to go back in time and knock on the door. Oh! What a dream❤. I hope this beautiful mansion gets fully restored to as it was. She is holding back tears as she spoke at the end. That is a very, very old antique variety of rose called "Seven Sisters," as it blooms in clusters of seven small blossoms. It can be a creamy white or that lovely pink. The clusters of blossoms were used as small bouquets for young ladies to carry or to wear at their waists or even in their hair. I have seen three videos on this magnificent house. Though the first was while the house's interior was more accessible, about four or five years ago. The beautiful front portico was still standing then and the basement and back porch were still open. This video is by far the most interesting and informative. Thanks, Heather, for the tour! I pray that this grand lady will be saved! I have donated toward that end and will do so regularly.

Wow. What a beautiful, regal mansion. Such a terrible shame it's in the condition it is. Very interesting architectural features; like everyone, I loved the tower rooms, the pocket doors, the conservatory, the attic. When touring places such as these, I always feel a kinship with the people who lived in them during the height of the glory of the structures, and can *so* imagine being there in those sacred, hallowed places. I was born far too late! Thank you very much for the tour; I plan to visit the website for the mansion to see some of the photographs from its heyday, and I'll pass along info to try to help raise awareness and funding for this lovely mansion. Fantastic video! I'm so glad there's now a foundation dedicated to the restoration of this beautiful home. We visited the property about 5-6 years ago, while it was still supposed to be a "golf resort community", and poked around the house. It was so sad to see the "demolition by neglect" happening before our eyes. I will say they are fortunate the mansion has a slate roof, as that has certainly saved a lot of the structure, despite the ingress of water in other areas. It's not only beautiful, but practically permanent.

I don't believe the individual who went through the house had permission to be there at that time. But he went through all of it basement included. I am so thankful to hear that a group of people have come together to save this gem of history. You would think Va. state government could come together to help fund the saving of this for educational reasons little alone the historical valve of it. They do not seem to have any difficulty pissing away tax payer money on other projects that have little to no valve. This would be a project of valve to keep for future generations.

Needs a lot of work. I restored a house, the oldest date of which I could find was 1848, and it took me a year and a half. I took it down to the studs. Redid everything, mostly myself, for just under $60,000, but it was only a 1,600 square feet two story in town. Again, I did most of the labor myself. That roof alone could be $50,000. Not to be too negative, but if water and ice have gotten into the brick and mortar and cracked it then the structure is not salvageable. I'm sure the land owners want to green light a suburban development. Very sad!
