★★★ *FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE VIDEO / FACT UPDATES* ★★★ *1) Is he saying Murderway or Motorway at **0:16** and **0:20* - I am saying Motorway, I have an Australian accent, so you must be just hearing it wrong, but I clearly say Motorway. *2) I can't see the tracks* - You probably won't see them on a mobile phone, especially after the de-grading of the footage youtube does after uploading a video. But I can clearly see them on my PC Monitor. *3) IT'S FAKE!* - it is not fake, this video best explains what you are seeing and how & why the train crosses the motorway. if you think the train in the video is fake after watching this video, you either have a low IQ in which I will need to use crayons to explain the video to you or you are trolling. *4) There are warning signs and traffic lights at* 3:58 - Yes there is, but I do not see any warnings for the railway line in question, there are 2 tracks at that point in the road, I assume one set of lights & signs covers both tracks. *5) Why would they build a train track over a 7 lane motorway* - it is a 7 lane Motorway, and it is only a 7 lane motorway for a short distance about 100-200 mtrs then goes back to a few lanes, the train track was most likely there long before the road was built. The whole area has been heavily developed over the years, but they left the train tracks in place. *6) at **0:30** The train goes under the Grass* - That grass you are seeing is a Balcony on the building, it's an optical illusion. *7) at **3:15** - you can see the train actually crossing the road on the google earth image, it's the long series of blocks holding up the cars* - Yes this is a screen shot of a google earth image from 2015, I am well aware it's there, that's why I put it in the video, showing you what it would look like when the train crosses. But there are 2 train tracks, and the yellow line I mark in the video at 3:15 is the train & train track in the original blurry footage at the start of the video. *8) Train Track are now gone as of 3/9/18* - I was informed by a viewer that on 3/9/2018, road works were carried out to remove the train tracks, here is the article link - qafqazinfo.az/news/detail/bakinin-merkezinde-demir-yolu-xetti-sokulur-neftciler-baglanir-228736 *9) How did you find this location purely from the original video* - I had 2 pieces of critical information from the original video, the name of the city it was located in, Baku, and the circular walking paths in the park, very distinct, with those 2 pieces of information, I simply google earthed all of Baku until I found it. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ *Viewers Comment* *awaken77* - "This intersection was in the city Baku (Azerbaijan) on Neftjanikov avenue, now defunctioned. The railroad was a branch line to the port. In 2017 that line was closed, and rails dismounted. There's recording from car's dash cam filmed in 2011: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYfPoGWtbctledU" *(Thankyou awaken77 for information & link)* *Nikita Kipriyanov Said 17/11/20* - In the first case the loco is some shunting diesel electric, I can't recognize which one exactly, and there are grain cars indeed. In the second case, where there are tank cars, the loco is 2ТЭ10M-3417 (which means: 2 - dual traction; ТЭ - Тепловоз с Электропередачей - diesel electric locomotive; 10М - model 10, modernized; 3417 - a serial number). This is very popular soviet freight loco, each section is rated 2210kW, but 2nd one seems to be shut down, because it gives out no smoke. Nowadays these locos remained in heavy use in Moldavia and other satellites, their use in Russia declines steadily. I believe when this track was built, the "motorway" wasn't that wide and it there was not much road traffic. Signs and lights were enough. When the Soviet Union dissolved the track was used much less, but the city grew and the street was widened and loaded. Because the track was used quite infrequently, it was not economical to build advanced safety systems around it. Eventually the operator was forced to make it safe or remove and find other ways to transport goods. I live in Voronezh, and here are also a few places with such tracks crossing relatively large and loaded motorways (for example, tinyurl.com/y684ycdc this one). These tracks connect mainstream lines and some large factories. Some of these tracks were removed just recently, others are kept in place, but there are not much safety, as one can see. I've personally never ever seen any trains on them (I was only 8 years old when Soviet dissolved). ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ *WHY I MADE THIS VIDEO* I started researching this video & looking for articles covering why it crossed the road with no warning signs etc, and I was finding no information, people kept writing articles saying they have no idea why the train was their and how it was crossing the road. it was infuriating me, that so many people re-posted the video and wrote articles with no information to explain what we were looking at. I could have just given up and moved on and thinking it was too hard, but I wanted to explain it, so I kept at it over days, looking for clues in the footage, the park, the motorway, the name of the town and finally found it, and from that I made some assumptions on the train being a grain train, but a fair assumption I think. All in all I am happy that I figured it out, while everyone else just copied other peoples articles and said "no idea how the train is crossing the road or why".

I worked in Baku for three years. Yes this exists. I stumbled upon it one weekend when I was exploring the city. I was walking through the park and saw the train tracks straight through the park across the road on one side and leading to a large gate bordering the east side of the park on the other side. It is truly a bizarre sight and I couldn't figure it out until I realized that there is a port on the other side of the gate. The park is like any park you would see in a modern city, but there are train tracks straight through it. I assume the tracks were there first, since nobody would put train tracks through a park. But it begs the question, who would build a park on top of train tracks??
@sasino
@sasino 2 жыл бұрын
But could they at LEAST put traffic lights there 💀 that's the bare minimum
@jonfklein
@jonfklein 2 жыл бұрын
@@sasino In former USSR countries logic and reason from government offices is often hard to come by. Your comment reminds me of something else I saw in Baku. On my walk to work, street lights were installed at an intersection I crossed on my way to and from work. But after they were installed I noticed that something didn't seem right about them. The green light in one direction would come on for only a few seconds then change to yellow or red for a long period of time. The drivers often just ignored the lights and drove through the intersection whatever the color was anyway so they weren't bothered by it. After several weeks it finally dawned on me that the wiring for the yellow and green lights was somehow mixed up for the lights in one direction. Green went on instead of yellow and yellow went on instead of green! Something like that would be unthinkable in a western country, but over there ... weird things happen.
@entrippyZ
@entrippyZ 2 жыл бұрын
I think it happened due to there not being regulations in place to not do that when it was put in. Without someone saying you can't do that, the railroad and park are just going to take the cheapest possible path to getting both things functional. railroad slows down through park, park tolerates the occasional loud train going through, everyone wins, sorta.
@jonfklein
@jonfklein 2 жыл бұрын
@@entrippyZ In my opinion the park was installed simply to beautify Baku's port area which is basically in the downtown area. There are other strange examples of this in Baku. For example there are two soviet era high-rise apartment buildings in downtown area. They were a total eyesore with air conditioners of all different makes haphazardly installed on the external walls. Various windows were replaced over the years with different types. Several balconies were inclosed with brickwork to expand the inside living space, which is commonly done in former soviet countries. Basically there was no control over what the occupants did over several decades and the building ended up looking like something from the favelas in Rio de Janeiro. Instead of demolishing the buildings the government installed a facade of glass around them to make them appear to be a modern high-rises. This was done in advance of the 2015 European Games, which was held in Azerbaijan, when the city would be in the spotlight of attention. I can't imagine the negative impact it had on the ventilation, functionality of the air conditioners and fire safety of the building.

Yes, this is in Baku and that railroad existed for some time. It was nearby my apartment. The city bus I was in was nearly hit by this train. It happened 7 years ago. Now this railroad has been dismantled. It had nothing to do with grain though. It was working for old refinery that was located seaside. The refinery also moved away. You can't find it on maps now.

The reason i think why there are no light indicators firstly is that train doesnt cross the road often because the silo looking thing you see , that place was Bakus main marine port but now they have moved it so the trains rarely go there so my guess city officials didnt see a need to put any indicators there .

How about sovjet union safety mentality. Most places in the entire world would stop the traffic even if there where only one train a year. They just got this kind of situation in Phnom Penh in Cambodia. Airport train crosses a large main road just before going in to the station at the airport. The road is wide and they have men with flags going out to halt the traffic when the train comes. Pretty simple and safe.

If the track use is infrequent, say one or two times a week, then they need to do what is done in the US on ungated no signal crossings, a conductor walks ahead of the train with a large flag in hand to stop traffic as the train progresses, then on the other side, jumps back on the locomotive.
@pex_the_unalivedrunk6785
@pex_the_unalivedrunk6785 4 жыл бұрын
Not enough space to build a train bridge or tunnel there, it would be too steep for the train to go up(& too dangerous to go down)...or if they built a bridge for the motorists, it would probably be equally impractical in that amount of space-especially considering how wide it would have to be. I'm sure the development plans have been put into place long ago with the ultimate goal of not wasting any money building bridges or tunnels there since the train tracks are to be phased out completely soon.

True! Very True! Real city, real train. I lived in the city of Baku, Azerbaijan for 22 years (expatriate) and I crossed this road multiple times, mainly to drop my kids to school and take them back home. What one can't see in the first part of video that there is a short 'signal' pole and the train driver 'honks and hoots' loudly, since he is 'blinded' by a sharp track curve (curving around a childrens park !) when the train 'rolls' on to the road . I think the poor soul sits on the 'horn', as one can hear the hoarse loud horn from quite a distance. He/she obviously aware that some fool would try to 'overrun' the train. Now, seeing the train on video it looks scary, but on ground level it was a just a minor inconvenience, to abruptly stop on busy road joining the downtown Baku to the densely populated suburbs (thankfully I always had cars stop ahead of me !)The train crosses infrequently carrying petrol/diesel/ kerosene from a Soviet era petroleum refinery nearby on its way to the Black sea port in Georgia, the oil ultimately reaching Europe. Obviously this video was shot from the ultra modern Port Baku Mall, which is just meters away from both the 'hidden' track and the Caspian sea. By the way, the train after crossing the road passes by a Bentley and a Ferrari dealership!

"We need a railway through the park and across the major city road." Rest of the world: "Ooooohh, tricky. Bridge? Tunnel? Approach angle? Engineering? Laws and regulations? Traffic management?" Azerbaijan: "Sounds simple enough." It's not that dangerous though. Maybe the drivers pay more attention to signs, and the approach zone has good visibility, and the train is also so extremely slow that you'd have to have a habit of crashing frontally into walls to make this an issue.

No it's pretty much exactly as simple as he explains it. Anyone who doesn't see that train coming simply wasn't paying attention. There's nothing obstructing the view of the train prior to it approaching the street. You can see it plain as day and it's moving so slow you have no excuse not to see it other than you weren't paying attention to either the cars in front of you or the approaching train.

I was a brakeman and conductor for six years a few decades ago in the US so this is just my experience. I know of no railroad crossing gates than can span half way across seven lanes. Think one gate on each side of the roadway. More importantly, we were required to send a flagman to walk across an unprotected crossing when traffic was present, in front of the train, to assure traffic had stopped. Yes, railroading was a dangerous job.

I've never seen North American crossing gates protect more than two lanes. A four lane road would have gates on each side. Eight lanes would have a center median and four sets of gates. Wider would require an overpass or grade separation. My observation as a railroad enthusiast and 35 years driving experience.

I have an uncle who can vouch for that. His bad day lasted about 4 years. Head on, into the side of a freight train locomotive at highway speed, driving a mini bus. Initially left for dead (for approx 2 hours), medics on scene ignored him slumped over the dash hanging out the front. Absolutely splattered with smashed glass from head to knees. Had to learn how to do EVERYTHING again... walk, talk, eat etc. Recovered well & still alive today. It was proven months after the crash that the crossing lights would fail ''intermittently''.

This arrangement happens from time to time in port cities, usually because the track is retrofitted into the city to reach a pier or an industrial facility. There's a few of those in Croatia, but none over a road this big. Sometimes tracks even go along a road.

Yeah but it's very noticable in any Balkan country when there is train tracks on the road... And they don't merge like this... This feels like tram line, not a damn cargo train... Crazy in my opinion, but eh like narrator said, it isn't still there... But thought about how much money would they need to build a simple brigde over that road,just for train... It wouldn't be much for like 20 meters it crosses... This can't be the solution. This makes Balkan roads safer than this road... I have never seen anywhere this kind of thing... Here they even seperare road from train lines just so it's visible to the eye and because it's easier for workers to maintain train tracks that are seperated from asphalt... Imaging someone was speeding ove there... Jesus

Baku Boulevard park (new section) I lived just up road from this location and my office over looked the area, There are warning lights and a load siren, the tracks had been there for decades, the road is relatively new... The development of Baku is outpacing some of the other developments around the country. The rail docks where you see these trains has been moved to a new location. There was a lead lag in getting the relocated rail docks completed before the new road had been put in. I witnessed the removal of the oil rail car dock as I walked my dogs by the location daily. The remaining bulk material dock was well on its way of being removed, when I left in Feb 2017. Baku is an absolutely beautiful city and great historical cultural. It is a must visit place. Once the last docks are removed, it will connect the two sides of the new and old Caspian Sea boulevard, one long, active and beautiful park.

+DVjarhead I hate this modern "buildings",who does NOT show "developement" or "richness",each of them only beeng a big DICK ERECTED by the banks and the filthy rich with wich they fuck the others an are a simbol of this fuck. I am especially disgusted by the sky scrapers,more so the glass ones,for the reason exposed above + their total lack of any taste. Plus,true beautiful parks should be like a LIKE A FOREST and simetrical,preferably isolated by the traffic by 100-150 m of walk ways covered and filled with trees,so you truly feel like in a forest and don't need to face the noise and smell of the cars,the short while while non-electric cars still exist :P . All i see here is a patch of grass with some dark nuanced small bush in them wich are without taste and/or shape,let alone simetry. The only nice thing is the good sense the people have to not occupy the rail and the precision with wich they use the parking space without uncomforting or blocking the train ;) .

In my 4 years there, I had seen one, yet the security Guard I knew at the building that watch the cameras at night... he would estimate 1 or 2 a month, so in general I would say before the peak of rail traffic, no less than 16 a year, once the main dock was moved, pretty much none the last 18 months I was there. that is me and a guard talking... it could be more or less, (not by much) only the Local police office would have the real total.

I'm willing to bet there are fewer accidents at this crossing due to people knowing they have to pay attention. In America we have a lot of vehicle/train collisions because people ignore the crossing warnings and think they can beat a train, just to save a few minutes of time. Note: the train ALWAYS wins!
@MattPat427
@MattPat427 6 жыл бұрын
He literally said in the comments there are warnings. There is a traffic light that has a green, yellow/Amber and red phase the same as a typical traffic light, but no gates. There are also 3 warning signs. When a train approaches the light goes from green to yellow, then yellow to red. Then the train passes, and the lights revert to green.

They built a modern, stylized park with walkways, circles of grass, water fountains, and build the park so it looks like it was carved half with freight train line. It's like in old RPG games, there would be something placed in a town or city that didn't quite fit. This whole area is quite appealing to look at because of how the tracks are placed, even if you don't like trains or video games. Not many people want to visit a highway.
