This seems like more of an ownership forced decision, or at least heavily influenced. I’m sure they recognize how much turmoil there was with the fanbase and were pressured enough to make an impulsive decision. And what better thing to do than create a scapegoat, and simultaneously hire a Mariner legend. Dan Wilson having as much experience as he does with the intricacies of this organization is just icing on the cake. It’s a win-win for Jerry and ownership. If they end up missing the playoffs, it’s Servais’ fault, if the make a ‘95 style run and steal a playoff spot, they look like geniuses and instantly become the saviors of the Seattle Mariners . I would bet a lot that this is exactly how this went down.

I don't see Wilson as an "outsider" to the organization, he's been officially employed by the organization as a coach for the last 11 years. He spends the majority of Spring Training in Peoria with the big league club. He just wasn't on the on field major league coaching staff.
@davidpankey232 ай бұрын
Since Edgar is joining the staff, here's a stat: The Mariners as a team would have to average a 2B every 8.8 at bat to match Edgar's career productivity in doubles.

So Far, This is a season a Disappoint for me as mariners fan. We really had a chance to do something special. 10 games up on the division, and they blew it. That don't happen that often, when they do Gotta you take advantage of that. Damn. I know shit ain't perfect but last couple years we start of slow and then come on strong in second of season and just miss playoffs. This season feels like a reverse.

I am that older Mariners fan that is nostalgic about the '95 team. However I am upset how they handled Scott, and apprehensive about Dan taking over. It is all sad and I am worried that Dan is not being setup for success as well. The look of this all is not good. I will be there at the game tonight and its going to be very interesting. Friday night City Connects, "new" blood at the helm, fireworks night though we'll see with the rain... Could either be great or a really bad night, and wonder how much cheering and/or booing will happen.

This is a Mariner move. Trying to get the casual fan excited by hiring Wilson and Edgar. There is no reason to believe that Wilson will be a good manager.....has never really done it. Edgar has already been our hitting coach......and it worked ok but not amazing. But......the casual fan is all excited today hearing this. I personally won't be going to games EVER until the ownership group sells or changes how they do business. If our payroll stays in the lower part of the middle I will not spend one cent on this team. Those days have ended. This PR crap can't fool me.

All the high spending has lead to nothing. You can add high paid FA, if you are over the hump talent wise. We aren't. And guys we have are imploding before our very own eyes. The only way to the WS outside Dodgers and Yanks territory is this: - Trade away all marketable expensive players, waive the rest - Accumulate lots of talent that is one or maximum two years away from the majors - Concentrate on field players, as high end pitching is abundant - Develop, take the guys that are viable, trade the rest - When you are over the talent hump, add real high-end talent to your cheap roster - Get good vet SPs, disregarding the price tag - Go to the WS! How many times has it been done now? Phillies, Diamondbacks, Rangers, Rays, soon the Orioles. Astros have developed this to an art. Why is this franchise incapable of this? Why are they always fall short, sniping too early and shooting for middling scrap players? Don't tell me it's money, it's skill. And I fear, we're back to square 1.

I think for the rest of the season we need to get away from whatever the current Mariner's organization analytics team is saying. Whatever information they were giving the players and Scott has been terrible. Maybe what this team needs is just good old fashioned baseball and coaching from players who know how to play the game.

It's very possible that Ken Rosenthal is to blame for Scott finding out before his meeting with Jerry. It is likely that Ken was told about the moves when he sat down with Jerry the previous day but was not supposed to release the news until a specified time; likely after the the meetings with Scott and JD. Stuff like this is handled by simple NDAs in all sorts of businesses all the time. In this hypothetical, Rosenthal fired out the news early and made a big mess. I'm sure we will never know the truth. It's just sad that it went down this way.

I think the Wilson hire is a way where DiPoto can still keep control over what goes on on the field. So what I’m staying is Wilson is probably a clone of Dipoto just in a different position. That means heavy on the analytics, and no feel for the game. But we shall see. I hope I’m wrong.
