APPI KOGEN | -18°C Snowstorm At Japans Best Ski Resort

Episode 4 of 'Chasing The Frozen Wave' took us on a wild ride to Appi Kogen in North Japan, where we faced the coldest temperatures we've ever experienced due to a 10-year snowstorm cycle. But that didn't stop us from having an awesome time.
Tomo and Hiroma upgraded to a fancy camper van, and spent the night in the snowstorm with frozen fingers and toes. But the next morning, we woke up to a winter wonderland and the most epic snowboarding segment yet.
We hit the slopes, smashing our way through the powder with grace and style (well, some of us did). We may have wiped out a few times, but we laughed it off and kept going.

Shoutout to that Sunday River sticker at 17:53! Used to be a yearly trip for me when I was younger. Also completely out of left field, but if you ever find yourself in China, give the skiing in Xinjiang (yes I know!) a try. Absolutely insane views and powder, and an adventure to get to the resorts there.

@@MountainSwell from the US (Boston) but been living and working in Shanghai the past 7 years. Yeah Xinjiang is generally completely off most people’s radars because they don’t really market to foreigners, the two biggest resorts there have only been around 2-3 years (with most of that during Covid times), and the obvious political sensitivities around the region. But yeah can give you guys plenty of tips if you ever decide to head over that way!

Yeh Hokkaido is awesome 🤙 This episode was Appi Kogen in Tohoku region…. But episode 7 we enter Hokkaido 😃 Next season will only be Hokkaido. So much to explore there 🤩

@@MountainSwell ok, was trying to see when you guys are looking at snowforecast on the computer if I could see the date. Reason why I ask is because I’m coming back to Japan from January 2nd to the 17th and hope we won’t miss out on the good snow. Hopefully we’re not coming too early #thatswhatshesaid

⁠yeh it’s pretty early around that time as generally you want a good base built up. But it’s different every season anyway. We normally start our trips from mid January but I wouldn’t worry so much 🤙
