Really touching to see how much it meant to Barry to read about David and Goliath at this location! Something I've been wondering about for quite a while is why deception was used on several occassions in the Bible to achieve God's plan. Samuel bending the truth by saying he's going to sacrifice when he actually went out searching for a new king is just one example. Something similar happened when Moses asked the pharaoh to let the people go so they can go and sacrifice in the dessert, when the plan was actually never to return. Another prominent example is that of Jacob, with the help of his mother, deceiving Isaac to receive his blessing. Any thoughts on how these deceptions can be justified?
@Lizzy-im1wv4 жыл бұрын
The way I see it - in all those cases the deception was used to put a man in place to be a leader that God had chosen. Just as thou shall not murder is in the Ten Commandments, it’s written throughout the Bible that God does allow it. God has reasons for things we simply do not have the ability to understand, therefore he laid out simple rules for us to follow in order to stay true to him. We simply have to keep our faith in him, as he is perfect in all that he does.
@judithmargret59722 жыл бұрын
I doubt anyone is justifying the lies, the story is simply being told of how God works through sinful man. We see in Scripture all of the Bible characters were simply sinful men, we see God's sovereign will working through them in spite of their deceit. We also see ourselves in them, that in spite of our fallen, sinful nature, God still chooses us as vessels to reveal Himself to the world and to achieve His purposes. I'm personally glad that Scripture reveals everyone as they are, otherwise I might consider myself too sinful for God to ever use me.

God gave Saul more than he could handle. If i were Saul i would have immediately abdicated after hearing God had chosen another. Why didn't he? I mean, what's the point of being king without God's blessings? Does the Bible mention a motive for Saul to remain king?
@appianmedia5 жыл бұрын
God indicated early in Saul's reign that He was willing to bless him, but Saul regularly demonstrated himself to be arrogant, selfish, and self-focused...blaming the people for his decision to not fully carry out God's will, building monuments to himself to credit himself for Israel's victories. These seem to be the reasons that Saul refused to accept David as the Lord's next anointed.

Saul was just a big DUMMY! The dummy Israelites chose him because he was tall and good looking, according the Bible. When Saul found out that news, he immediately went into hiding behind a bunch of luggage somewhere hoping that the Israelites would not find him and then make him king.

In my humble opinion, the reason David defeated Goliath is because David had no fear. Fear in the mind is where defeat begins. Love defeated Goliath because love can make one do extraordinary things. Perfect love casts out fear. David loved God and when Goliath came up and challenged the God of Israel, David got triggered. How dare Goliath talks trash about the God whom David loves. The God that is Davids friend and mentor.

I'm not comfortable watching this I've watched the first episode but this isn't Archaeology. You're coming at it with a Biblical/Christian agenda front and centre "Goliath the giant" seriously? Sorry but that's just beyond belief, smh.
@LambsyLamb3 жыл бұрын
You do know that religious books aren't history books right? Is there any mention of Saul or David outside of the Bible? Look at the story! David and Goliath, it's written like a story about a little guy taking on a big guy! And that intelligence is often better than brute force. A moral STORY no different than anything the Brothers Grimm wrote.

You will find that as you read the biblical account of David, it reads not at all like a "once upon a time in a land far far away" and more exactly like a historical account, with detailed and accurate geographical information, down to the exact positioning of the brook from which David chose his stones. To answer your question about extra references to these kings outside of the Bible: the answer is yes. We would encourage you to watch our "Searching for a King" series in its entirety and see the very clear and compelling evidences to the historicity of the biblical account - including Episode 4's explanation of the Tel Dan Stele, written by a foreign king, and which references "The House of David" in Israel.

all this fascination for a people completely unrelated to your own European history and ethnicity. I have a great deal of respect for Jewish nationalism and self-preservation. But when revival Christians and Protestants larp Jewish identitarians I cringe. we have a tremendous history, deep roots in Europe. thousands of years. search for our holy places. you have been separated for to long from the motherland. is it not time to go home? to look within yourselves?

It is our goal to help bring the stories of the Bible to life by highlighting the land, the history, and the culture of the biblical narrative. The truth is: the Bible isn't just the Jews story...it's everyone's story and the gospel is meant for all!
