Simon I take offense at that....... 😊, nah i don't, not really, i really love tooru because he is complex, because he has a reason for everything he does and because he have the most development in the series, heck that's why i favour all the 'bad' guys in anything i watch/read cause the main characters does be too one dimensional for me. I can't stress on how much i agree with M. Simon. Oikawa is probably the most misunderstood character in the entire series. Just because he lashes out in the face of insecurity (which is completely reasonable when you're fourteen, just btw), a large portion of the fandom has turned him into some sort of a villain, not bothering to even begin to understand his version of events. Yes, I agree that he doesn't have the best personality, and he is immature at times, but he is easily one of the most dedicated, focused, and hardworking characters in the series, if not the most. He's a brilliant captain, and a caring friend, and just an overall masterpiece. The people who don't understand his reasons for his actions are, as M Simon dubbed them, 'simple minded'. I love Hinata and Kageyama, I do, but it doesn't even compare to how much I love the beast that is Oikawa Tooru, probably the most underrated character in Haikyuu.

Oikawa rant So basically majority of people in the haikyuu fandom think that Oikawa is just garbage and he deserves no love but it’s the complete opposite. He actually has one of the saddest backstory if you think about it. In fannon everyone portrays him as a cocky, ignorant and over confident character but cannonly he is really insecure, he used being confident as a coping mechanism to feel better about himself. He tried so hard to go to nationals, he gave that last game everything he had left. And with the whole slapping Kageyama as a kid, he didn’t want to be surpassed because it would make him feel like a complete loser. He was so scared and his only instinct was to attack, he didn’t really want to hurt him but it was like a flight or fight response. He always wanted to show he could do something good but he was never able to. I don’t understand how people can hate on him, I know at first he seems like a villainous character but he is just trying to cope. I truly feel bad for him, I mean imagine working towards something and giving it all your energy just to be defeated by the person you were always scared of surpassing you.

This is so amazing, Honesty. Im not just saying that. The reason its so amazing is because first off the melancholy version of this song fits Oikawa's story so well. He wanted to come out on top more than anything and he worked so hard to get there. He was a beautiful hard working goof and is one of my favorite characters in Haikyuu.
