There's plenty of "motivational" or "inspirational" anime characters out there. There's a few I would genuinely credit with changing my life. However many of those, had huge amounts of screentime - or at the very least a good few episodes. But Shinsuke Kita, has barely more than an episode.
Of all of Haikyuu's quotes, perhaps my favourite is "You do it every day. You take care of your body. You tidy your environment. You practice gratitude. And you practice". Shinsuke's arrival is one of the most pivotal moments for Haikyuu, that took everything that the events of the previous matches, in particular Karasuno vs Aoba Johsai, and turned it into something even more beautiful.
Karasuno vs Inarizaki is one of the most intense arcs I've ever seen, from moments such as Hinata's receive, Tanaka's spike and even "Let's take it easy", it's packed full of some of my favourite moments in anime.

A life changing quote from Kita is about getting nervous before a game, and he basically says that guys feel nervous because in their hearts they want to do beyond their current capabilities and that's just ridiculous. For me is okay to want more, but do all the worrying and wanting afterwards.

The best leader is a hero. My favorite hero is an everyman, someone humble, modest, unremarkable on the surface. The only reason this pedestrian is at all notable is due to their strong will and work ethic. Despite their new-found talent and reputation they don't lose themselves. They are the definition of progressive growth, "little by little". To me this is the pure essence of Shonen... Now, whether or not Shonen lives up to this ideal is a whole other can of worms. At the very least it is the ideal most Shonen approach, and the ideal Shinsuke Kita has achieved.

I love people who genuinely and even excessively understands their limitations and still chooses to go above and beyond, not for himself but for those who he cares about. There’s something in it that makes me have hope in humans and of human will. I can’t put it into words, but if I had a chance to relive my life, I would like to be that person.

@@sockthief9138 For as long as we are alive we can still be that person. It's interesting how some people figure out their lives in their mid 40s. It seems like they wasted their youth and well they kinda did. But to make that change they couldn't dwell on it. Since they could never go back looking forward was the only way out. Same goes for us.

Kita's weapon is his unwavering, exceptional competence. It's something that takes a long time to build up to, but is the fundamental building blocks of his character. It's what makes him so admirable, despite not having the crazy abilities of the Miwas or Kageyama, or Ushiwaka's physical advantages.

Kita's lessons are so important. And I think about similar everytime someone responds to an artist online with "I wish I could draw like that! You're so talented!" and they mean it as praise but it reads as so dismissive. Like, that person probably does have talent. But they've also probably been drawing for thousands of hours, over years of their life. One of the best things that ever happened for my mentality was the day I realized that I didn't want to "learn to draw" I wanted to "know how to draw." My brain wasn't interested in doing the work. Therefore it wasn't a path I could take because I wasn't willing to put in that work. And so whenever I think about it, or see a nice drawing that makes me wish I could do the same, I ask myself the same question "Do you want to learn to do that? Or is this just thinking it'd be nice to have already done that work?" Also important for everything else in life to. Do you want to learn to do that thing? Or do you just wish it was something you'd already done? It can sound depressing at first denying those things. But it also helps find the things where you brain goes "Yeah, I don't care if we suck at this. I want to do it and do it again until I can do something like this!"

This video came to me and hit me like a truck. I’ve been pretty anxious lately because I’ve wanted to do so much academically as I have started taking this route seriously. I realize now that a lot of the things I was looking at wanting to do a lot of the times I just wished that I already have done the work so I could move on to the next thing and essentially was in a perpetual cycle of anxiety because I wasn’t performing to my expectations. Something that I must learn is gratitude and focusing on the process, and every single day at a time. this will yield results over time on its own. You’ve verbalized what I have been thinking and wrestling with for so long!

I´m of the same opinion as you on Kita´s job post graduation. When I saw the pages/panels, I was like: "Yeah, that´s Kita Shinsuke." It encapsulates everything he stands for. The daily actions and efforts he put into his work, with his yield as the product of this. And that Miya Osamu specifically buys from Kita later on just warms my heart! XD Kita is my favorite Inarizaki player. The way he faces the ordinary, daily life with such earnesty, the way he is so extraordinarily stable and reliable. The care he puts into everything and everyone around him is admirable.

Yes, yes, yes! Kageyama is called genius, but he works his arse off every step of the way. He never assumes that he will be always better than anyone else, he swallows his pride and asks Oikawa for advice JUST to be better. Not many people, even grown-ups, would do that. Kageyama is my fav character for this reason - he works hard and hates wasted potential ("What have you been doing for those three years?!") , and him, not being understood for that - that hit too close to home. Kita is my second fav for reasons you highlighted in this video. He steadily builds his strength and leadership. He is that one stable thing in Inarizaki's crazy team - and he does it great.

And its exactly quotes like Kitas that makes you realise that world is already beautifull place you just need to look the right way on it.

Kita moved me a lot when I first saw him. I have played tennis all my life but I have never considered myself an outstanding player. I didn’t have a lot of raw talent, but I was blessed with a perfect height, a good mentality and the willing to put the hours in. Even though I don’t have a lot of achievements in the sport, I have some of which I’m really proud of. Now I’m playing again and for the first time in my life I’m playing as a young adult, with no pressure and enjoying it with friends. I know I will never achieve pro level, but that doesn’t stop me to being able to enjoy playing every day that I can, improving my daily habits, and being just a little bit better than I was yesterday. I’m playing with the hope of being better than when I was younger and played 4+ hours a day. With the right mentality, I might achieve it one day. One day at the time

Watching this after my results for med school entrance exams came out. I didn't make it this year, even though I tried a lot. But on the day of exam I was not nervous. Strangely enough, I was happy, because I had stopped caring whether I'd get into a college or not this year, I just wanted to see if my preparation had stayed with me until the end. I could have done better, but at that moment, I didn't worry about it. I guess I'll give the exam another try.

I loved Kita the moment they introduced him! Reminds me a lot of a quote from Bojack Horseman “It gets easier. Every day it gets a little easier. But you gotta do it every day -that’s the hard part. But it does get easier.” We’re always so hard on ourselves, and expect perfection from the get go. Everything takes time, we just need to be patient and consistent. Small progress is still progress.

Wow I'd never expect my comment to be shown in one of your videos, the level of respect and relatability I have for you just skyrocketed, especially since I too thought that for every self improvement philosophy I'm very sure Kita's mindset of how "You are the sum of your daily habits" is the foundation for every other principle, since it's also based on the book Atomic Habits, "You don't rise to the levels of your goals, you fall to the levels of your systems". Much Love, this is also the culmination of everything you've covered, since if you watch this and another Barou video afterward, it would seem to contradict each other, but as you said, "What works for you, works for you", and the way that Kita who was both smart and disciplined ended up a farmer is just perfect writing. Hope we meet someday as high value men, much love.

Everyday he would help someone, through just a small action and in the end he would see the result of his small actions, everybody held him to some sort of respect. Ik its not the same philosophy but its kinda an example of this philosophy. BTW amazed how u somehow get these insane life lessons from anime and decide to share it with the world, truly insane.

Congrats on 50K subs and here is to many more. Kita's advice is so good and simple that it is hard. I am someone who struggles with consistency. I tend to move like waves on a windy day. The weather will dictate the waves and it isn't always the best thing but it works sometimes. For years I have been trying to get into a set routine but think that is the wrong mindset. I am now trying to plan fixed actions that leave space for the waves. Steven Hollet and Chris Willamson were talking about how to avoid procrastination. In that conversation, they mentioned balancing the desire to do something, the cost, and the sacrifice. If you are like me doing what Kita does seems impossible but it isn't if don't box yourself in. Find the balance of a goal to move you forward and fear(motivation) to run away from. If you don't change what is the worst thing that will most likely happen and if you do change what is the thing you wish to happen. I hope you find your answers and grow.

i also love that in this arc there's a connection to Noya, who is also regarded as a genius too but we know how hard he works and how hard he is on himself, and while fighting Inarazaki, he feels fear, afraid of doing something whether he did it a thousand times or something new, he took note of what his grandpa said to him "Fear is a waste of opportunity." It shows us that starting something new, in contrast to Kita's consistency where you might already be at a point where you already do it everyday, there is no reason to be afraid to do new things, we should keep trying new things because this is how we understand ourselves. To eat something you hate again; to make sure you don't like it, to confront things head on, even if you're afraid. Being able to not be scared of trying new things and Kita's lines about consistency makes the philosophy very interesting for me

this is one of the best videos I've seen on KZbin, thank you! :) I absolutely agree, the beauty lies in the simple, small things we do on the daily. We just need to pay attention to them and stop worrying about all the big things.

when i got this video on recommendation, i thought it would be a simple video, which i will watch and move to another one. it was a simple video, but it did much more than that for me. As you spoke of him and his principle, i started crying, everything resonated too close to my heart. thank you so much for this video. I’m happy to see this channel! And looking forward to more great anime lesson and Haikyuu content. And with the Haikyuu film being released I hope you can also talk Coach Nekomata’s quote about the “the joy from doing should be what is important, first and foremost” and somehow great influenced the chosen career of Kuro.

I recently completed watching Haikyuu for the first time, at a time where I'm going through a rough patch, and this series has actually healed me in ways I cannot express. The positivity and hope that each and every character has given me feels like a warm hug that I desperately wanted. Even characters like Ushijima from Shiratorizawa and Takanobu Aone from Date Tech have taught me so much, even though they didn't have many significant lines. I thank you deeply for making this video on Kita, really appreciate your work

Congratulations! And thank you, you introduced me to my absolute favorite anime, Blue Lock. I think that is because of your insights. Had I have not been introduced to your channel by your Vinland saga videos I likely would have never watched Blue Lock and I credit your analysis for making it my favorite anime. Here's to 50K more!

This video not only helped me to understand more a great character like Kita, but also helped to break a wall I had because of personal struggles. I always tried to "ritualize" my ways of changing, but fell back to my slouching self in the end. So, instead of making a change a big deal, why not just... making a simple and lowkey routine and enjoying the process? Might sound obvious for another person out there reading it, but that was exactly what I needed right now (to each its own, I guess). Thank you for your content and hope this rambling makes at least a little bit of sense.

This channel is great because even though yes these characters are beautifully written, you have a really high interpersonal intelligence that is apparent in the lessons that you take from each character as they are. That combined with your writing style, and this channel is bound to be big

Great video and perfect summary of what Kita's way of thinking is! Thank you! Kita's approach to challenges is exactly how I go about for my music concerts. I'm a drummer and when I was young, whenever we had a big concert or when I had to play a small solo part, I used to get horrible anxiety attacks. I've learned his way of thinking before Haikyuu was being made but he reminded me of this simple fact: _Why should I be afraid of playing that solo part? I did practice it hundreds of times, we did rehears if with the band over and over again. I know I can do it! So let's just do it!_ With this way of thinking I actually could turn my anxiety into excitement! _I practised so much, now I wan to show the world what I can do!_ It might be viewed as a "simple" mindset but it requires a lot of dedication, at least at first. And what you get out of it is calmness and clarity. And gradually you will become "good" at it. Combined with the "being good means being free" quote, it's the first step to get ready to fly!
