I don't get how a mil thinks her child owes her anything for raising their kids, they didn't ask to be born

Why are these adults giving their parents money? Also, why don't these daughter-in-laws never tell their mother-in-laws to mind their own business?

I have 2 sons who are married. I never ask them for allowances. I don't complain about how they spend or save money. They have their own lives. When me and their father retired, we have pensions. We spend our money frugally. Thank God, we live a decent life, visiting our kids once in awhile. Likewise, they too visit us occassionally. 😊

I'm glad there's parents like you who don't asking for allowance. In my case, my mom doesn't ask me for paying anything, but my brother demands me to pay her instead... Honestly, I feel this sense of guilt and burden every time I got my pay and don't help my mom with it. Honestly, is that okay?

Why would you ask your child to support you when you are able to work on your own. Mil needs to learn her role and stay out of the relationship. I don't know where this female's arrogance is coming from but she needs to be put in her place

This one really touched on some good points. Kid's are often pushed/thrown even tossed into a certain person or job or life that their parents or family demand of them. Luckily he was able to find a great wife to help him break free from that and take back what was taken.

$2k a month? MIL needs a job. Someone's controlling. MIL doesn't need Dave's money. She just like the feeling of being able to control him. I'm glad they moved. I hope Dave eventually is able to stand up to his mom. I heard this story on another channel. Don't pay your abuser. There's the apology an abuser says when they don't want to face the consequences of their actions. I'm glad Dave is doing better.

I do not understand why they keep calling it an "allowance". I always thought that an allowance was something you got when you were a child and you received it for doing chores around the house, not just something that you think that you are owed when you get older. I would never even think of asking my kids for an "allowance". I work and pay my own bills and I am probably older than most of the people in these stories that keep asking or demanding an "allowance" from their children. Get a job and earn your own money.

This is big in Asian culture. It's the family's job to take care of and provide for the elderly family members. All these stories originate in China, India, etc., so they think this is normal. They also don't have social security, so they don't understand how the elderly survive except by "monthly allowance".

I really get sick of people thinking that just because I gave birth to you I'm entitled to an allowance no you're not the funny thing is if I try to give my mother money my mother would never take it from me some way somehow that money would be in my pocket or in my car or in a book she gave me my mother would never take it everything my mother has ever did for me my mother has always said it is free because I'm her kid and she loved me

I'm glad the husband is doing better, sounds like he was dealing with a lot thanks to the mom.(Especially if he had to go to counseling) Be interesting if anyone the mom bragged to when she took credit for her son's success found out she wasn't actually the reason for it & was the reason he's in therapy & cut ties. She'd have a hard time showing her face around them. Then again she probably can't cause she's busy struggling with money issues & moping over losing her son & source of money.

There are in-laws that are very controlling they think their children are indebted to them. Some cut their abusers out of their lives. Some are in denial. I dislike greedy and controlling families.

How are you living alone and getting two payments but can't make it in your own?!! And if your SON is the person making the MONEY then it should be HIS decision on what HE is going to send you. Plus your SON is A GROWN MAN, I don't understand why some parents think their CHILD who DOESNT EVEN live at home anymore is supposed to tell you EVERY MOVE they make in life!!!!!

I helped out I purchased dryers and gates which I installed painted the house inside and out. Paid for outings. While the golden child bled my mother dry. When I think back knowing even in will I was disadvantaged. I don't regret what i did. but would not do again. I can die with clear conscience. But I got my first job at 12 as parents would give me an allowance. Started full time work at 14 and finished at 73. I worked hard and rose through the ranks and ended up achieving well. I never expected to get more, in my mothers will but did expect half (there was 2 of us) and I was left 25% So don't ever expect to be treat fair and never expect people to help when I see people act with kindness to others I sometimes cry just because I realise there are a few decent people left I am now 81 and and manage on my own, paying my bills mowing my lawn. Thank goodness I have good health. But I have no faith in people and less in family

Sorry lol. I don't get this allowance thing at all. I'm a mother of 3 now adults. One 35 daughter an mother to my 3 grandsons. With 4th due April 2023. An my eldest son is 30 an my youngest son 21yrs old. An I have never an would NEVER expect or ask for an allowance. Once a child reaches adulthood. That incurs its own lifetime of expenses. So its only RUGHT that they spend their money anyway they want as they earn it. Or what's the point of them being taught to be independent adults?? Which every parents should do. In UK it's NOT normal to give any parent an allowance. An most UK adults whose kids have grown an flown the nest, will support their adult kids with things like holidays. Debts ect. UK parents have pride ingrained in them from previous generations. So we are never reliant on our adults kids funds. As neither were our parents an their parents before them ect. It seems its a USA thing. To give parents handouts. I'd be insulted if my adult kids tried offering me a stupid allowance lol. I'd refuse it straight away. As it's very much unneeded by any other UK parents I've ever known.

The word "elite" gets tossed around in a lot of these stories, as a descriptor for a businessman, banker, etc. In almost 33 years in the banking industry, we had elite banking, but the term referred to the CLIENTS, not the banker. Just a way for a businessman (or his mother, in this case) to put on airs above his station, I guess.
@Grimmarox

I was thinking about that as well. I know some societies have it. Here in the US that's probably something that would be given if the parents are below the poverty line or close to. This one is entitled. Go to Walmart and you will see people in their 80s working.

Kids aren’t possessions or bank machines. If either of my parents had needed help I would have had them live with me and helped them out, Ok, I’m not try to be mean but one voice actor sounds like a mouse. Also, both actors have very odd cadence and enunciation. It’s distracting. Also, this story is a repeat from so many others.
