FTR: Still using mine, still loving it. With one small caveat: Even though time capsule is supposed to incrementally delete the oldest backups, time capsule will eventually "Run out of storage". When this happens you have two options. Hook a big ass drive up to it and forget about it, or delete some backups/files yourself. Best of luck, dorks.

Apple wants to make money with ICloud storage! The same reason why they killed their BRILLIANT AirPort Time Capsule external hardrive. Something I want to buy and replace the hard drive with a 6TB drive

It's a shame that a company making as much money as this can't see the benefit in making allowance for their customers ease of use etc.

Just bought one of these yesterday on eBay and can't wait for it to come. The seller upgraded it and added a 4TB HDD.

Again, i just have to say: that mine is still going strong! I really hope you enjoy yours :-D Really wish Apple would bring these back like they did with the big homepods.

@@benjaminbutcher Thanks! I only upgraded because my second gen time capsule hdd(router still works great) finally died on me after 10 years. I could have just changed the internal hdd or just attached an external drive but I had such a good experience I wanted to get the 5th gen.

Thanks for the informative talk and masterful editing. Some people say we don’t need time capsule anymore because now we have NAS. Well, before I have time and energy to figure out what that is, I purchased a no-brainer used time capsule and hopefully it will last for sometime.

He makes a good point. A decade ago I went TOTAL Apple including TimeCapsule. I feel Apple forsook me when they eliminated Airport.

Yeah! Honestly, even now it just really feels like such a strong product. I really hope they'll consider bringing it back.

I got a 2TB Time Capsule today for $30AUD to use as a time machine backup for my maxed 2012 MBP which is my daily portable - doing the 1st Time Machine back up now 🙂

Err, what doohicky did You show at the end? Air Play audio jack? You got my attention with that as I want a shower sound solution. A little something to send my Itunes tunes to the shower where I plug in a thing. I sold my soul to Apple with my 1st Iphone, I just bought a TimeCapsule- I like the old Apple Tree, the one Steve watered. But I never heard of this little doohicky with an audio jack. Please elaborate. Kind Regards

I have one and have loved it. Just changed routers. Can I use my time capsule just as the hard drive and not router?
@benjaminbutcher Жыл бұрын
Yes and no. If you want over the air backups it still needs to be connected to the network you use for your computer. That said, you don't HAVE to use it for wifi fi you don't want to.

The one area that the world would actually benefit from apple standardizing and "dumbing down" would be making a NAS. and THEY DID. As much as I would love for them to re-release the time capsule, I don't see them doing it. Despite how much it makes sense (especially with them pushing wifi 6e in their latest products). They just make too much money having people pay monthly for cloud backups. The moment they did it, though, I'd have one. my jerry rigged NAS does the job, but the simplicity of a set and forget apple implementation would be grand. It might just cost a grand, too.
@benjaminbutcher Жыл бұрын
Wow, maybe YOU should be writing the reviews! haha love the word play. And honestly it kills me that they apparently don't think there are enough people out there who love this enough to make it worth their while. **sigh** Well, until then I guess we take what we can get, eh?

Which version/ year of time capsule would be best to buy in 2023?
@benjaminbutcher Жыл бұрын
I might be misunderstanding your question, so forgive the potential "Duh" here, but just buy the newest one you can. As far as I can tell, the models didn't change much after airport and airport time capsule reached the design you see in the video.

I’m not even fused about Time Machine and local backups, I just want AirPort as modern day routers are a mess.

Haha right??? I was pleasantly surprised to find out how great it works as a router.

I have the original ONE TB Time Capsule which I still use to this day. But I've added various 4 TB drives to the chain along the way. However, I ended up on your KZbin channel whilst I was looking for a solution for why that AirPort keeps dropping out. I have to power cycle it every day just so that I can perform Time Machine backups. I know that's not right, but I still don't know how to fix the problem. But yes, I'd like to see Time Capsule brought back, too.
