My first mac is 2022 MacBook Air and while it's not perfect for all of the tasks that I need to do (i always was more of a PC guy), it is still surprisingly good at a lot of things. And this Mac Mini is shocking tbh, a computer this small and this powerful, not only that - the power supply is apparently inside this thing too. I don't feel like I really need it - I personally don't have a unique use for it (and probably own too many computers already), but I can totally see how it would make a perfect workstation for a lot of people

The 2005 G4 Mac Mini was 6.5-inches square and two inches high with an external power supply. In June of 2010 a redesign put the power supply inside and changed the dimensions to 7.7 inches square and 1.4 inches high, which leads us to this model at 5 inches square and 2 inches high.

What is construction difference of new thunderbolt 5 vs thunderbolt 4 cable. I see the 1m thunderbolt 5 cable is only available in TBolt 5 version. Discontinued 1m version 4, with no option for longer lengths of TB 5 on their website. Your inspection and details would be appreciated.

I'm trying to choose between the new Mac Mini, Mac Studio or new MacBook Pros using it for recording classical guitar, steel string acoustic guitar, electric guitar and multiple instrument mixes using real instruments (piano, guitar, saxophone, drums, electric and acoustic bass) at 192 kHz. I have two LG 32" monitors. I have two issues, (1) which of these devices is the quietest, since I use my computer in the same room that I record (no fans, if possible); and (2) I assume all of these devices will allow me to record without digital distortion using Digital Performer, Metric Halo's ULN8 a/d, Millennia Media pre-amps, Neumann U87 and B&K 4011 microphones but at high resolutions, that is NOT always the case. Please advise or refer me to someone who can clarify these issues. Thank you in advance.

I pre-ordered the Mac Mini regular with 1TB of storage and 32gb of RAM. I intend to run VM's on it and Windows with Parallel because I have some stuff that won't run natively in Mac OSX. I specifically waited for the M4 so that it would have the Neural engines in the CPU and would also help me to future proof me a little bit for a while. I don't have heavy CPU needs but I do require 32gb of RAM for what I want to do. I'm going to hook it to my 52" 4K QLED TV I use as a monitor and then also another side monitor that is 1080 for things like Music / chat windows etc. as a secondary utility screen

Well Thunderbolt 5 does support DisplayPort 2.1, which I know can do at least 4K 144Hz with my Legion Y32P-30. According to google it can go up to 16K, which I don’t think any consumer monitors are going to handle. Basically, you should be able to throw any monitor on the market at it and have it work. What exactly you get depends on what you’re after.

This release alongside the iMac release shows Apple’s pivot in the iMac’s role in the lineup. It used to be the all-in-one “powerhouse”, but it seems like it’s now firmly in the lowest tier “entry level” position. I never thought I’d see the day where the Mac Mini was worlds more appealing than the iMac (even if decking out a mini is gonna get hella pricey… heh).

I have an older 27 inch iMac i7 2015. This new Mac mini seems a great way to upgrade 😊 to a 27 inch display experience with so many features, but yep, I’d have to get the studio monitor. $☹️. I’ve been waiting a long time as my present computer is still useful, and I dread changing over with all the software updates, and compatibility installation issues. It’s not a deal,breaker, but is this Mac mini worth it for me? Probably so with the M4 pro,chip. Hopefully it will last as long as my present iMac.

I'd prefer the audio jack in the back in order to plug my speakers in... I'm not thrilled that the jack would be sticking out into my work space.... Other than that the M4 Pro really looks good! Big question though is will Apple surprise us with a M4 Mac Studio tomorrow? One can only hope!

This is what Apple should of opened the week of announcements instead of the iMac yawn. This new Mac Mini has adopted the excellent cooling system of the Mac Studio and brought it to a great size especially for those of us in audio who need to work different places and want to have all our software and libraries to avoid issues. I don't have a need for one now, but in about a year I will probably want to replace my 27" iMac and this would be a great replacement. Until then I'll keep loving my work machine my Mac Studio.

I would have preferred they up the base storage to 512gb at least. I buy and setup Macs for family and friends for over two decades now and for those browsing and doing basic productivity stuff like MS Office never had any issues with the base 8gb RAM especially for the Apple Silicon models, they do run out of storage rather quickly though.

One thing that disappoints me a bit with my Studio and this new mini is the lack of a built in mic. It has built in speakers which are fine for casual stuff, but having a built in mic would make Siri lots more useful! I guess they are assuming one is using an Apple Display with a built in camera and mic combo.

M1 especially an ultra will be a beast for a very long time. M4 is not even remotely enough to upgrade. hell i doubt an M10 will be much more powerful. Apple has kind of hit the performance wall since the M1... It's so fast that there's nowhere to go from here except shave seconds off renders. Real world nobody cares.

I'm a graphic designer, not a tech guy, so none of these specifications mean anything to me. How do I determine which model is most appropriate for my purposes. For software, I use the Affinity suite (roughly equivalent to Adobe CS) and just started learning Rhino for 3D.

I’d say you could get away with a base model m4 pro. If you’re using a lot of large files and don’t have existing fast external storage, bump up to at least 1TB

Now I just need to figure out if I need to spend the big bucks on a 27" Apple Studio Display or if there is a less expensive alternative that's just as good for graphic design. Any recommendation would be most appreciated.

Honestly a little disappointed. Now I'm hoping they introduce an even smaller, USB-C powered Mac Nano. The performance of a MacBook Air in a pocket sized package that can run with just a single cable plugged into my monitor would have been amazing. It would be great for hybrid working where I can shove my computer in my pocket rather than lugging around my laptop between home and work, simply plug it into the monitor when I get to work and it just starts up.

Its a good upgrade from the M1. I wonder if in the coming months, how much Processor/GPU/Neural Processors that the AI might use. It might be quite demanding, so perhaps the M4 Pro over the base M4.

No it's not. You literally won't notice anything in real world performance vs an M1 a few secs shaved off some render times. thats it
