Better to use cold butter and cut it in until you have pea sized lumps. I’ve tried both ways. Trust me. And I definitely prefer to add oats along with the flour, and toasted almonds on top.

I also use oats in my topping, plus nutmeg & just a small amount, about 1/8 tsp, of allspice to add to those Fall flavors!🍁

I also grew up in the Mid-West and would call that an apple crumble, because of the lack of oats. Apple Brown Betty is made with breadcrumbs. I would also have added some flour or cornflour to the apple mixture.

@@blazingstar9638 apple brown betty uses breadcrumbs. it's an old recipe. apple crisp with oats etc is what most make nowadays.
@SusanBrooklyn4 жыл бұрын
Did you intentionally not put oats in topping? Cant call it a crisp without oats, imo. Plus, using cornstarch in filling will go a long way in thickening it to deliciousness. My preference you cook the apples too long but to rack their own. I love envy apples instead of granny. I never use granny smith. Too tart. Mackintosh us great too.

Well, since I have seen this palm peeler demo, I don't like it , because to me it looks dangerous. And, I would not waste my time looking for this in a store. I have always left the skin on the apples, not out of laziness, but because it has the full apple flavor, and we get more fiber in our system, and more healthy benefits.
