Perfect timing for this great recipe! I need to pick my apples this week before the crows get them. Summer weather has not been sunny enough in my area but this week has been perfect to sweeten the apples. I used to make this as a new bride because I was still learning how to cook and my apple pie crust worked better on some days than others. I knew this would be perfect every time. You always use the best and most natural ingredients that I have handy so I rarely have to suffer long in order to taste it.

I made this tonight and it turned out beautifully. It took about twice as long to cook as the recipe states (but I am fussy about the apples being fully cooked). If you are like me and prefer desserts that aren't too rich, you may want to reduce the sugar and leave out that extra butter between the apples. It left little pools of grease at the bottom of the dish.

I tried this recipe just now and it came out AMAZING! Love how you add lemon into the apple mixture, i really really love how it balances the sour-sweet taste of the apple! Thank you so much!!

This came out SO GOOD. Thank you for sharing this no crust on the bottom easy recipe. You were right very easy to make...only I did have to adapt a bit, because I live in a very humid tropical climate and needed to add a bit more flour to the topping so it wouldn't be so sticky plus added a bit more (celtic sea )salt. I used 5 big granny Smith and a small Fuji plus added one tablespoon flour to the apples and let it marinate with all the other ingredients. Eventhough your recipe only calls for the cornstarch, I wanted a bit of a binder. The apples became very juicy but I added everthing till the last drop in the dish and about a third of the butter inbetween layers only because I ran out of butter lol. Baked for 70 min at 350 degrees. Served with plain Vanilla Icecream. It was such a hit. Definately making this again.

John, PLEASE look into SZARLOTKA. It's a Polish apple cake/pie. It's based on a buttery shortcrust, filled with either grated apple or cooked apples (but not for too long) and topped with the same dough as the bottom (but you freeze it and grate it on!) Some recipes have meringue between the apples and the top layer, but it's good without it. This was the cake/pie that I would put dibs on seconds before I even finished my first piece. Also - it's usually made in a 9x13 pan, not a round pan. If you want a recipe to try...I will get you the BEST one promise!

I made this recipe today. There is just one issue, the recipe says 45 minutes but watching the show you say 1 hour. I understand you also said until brown and bubbly. I try to follow the recipe exactly as written. At 45 minutes it was not done, so I ended up putting it back in for 15 minutes, still not done. another 15 minutes finally it is done. I am not complaining I just wish the recipe would have stated 1 hour. I love your show and watch it quite often. I have not eaten the crisp yet it has to cool, but it smells heavenly! (it doesn't smell like much at 45 minutes) I am happy to report it was fantastic!
