I prepare my apple butter like my mom , grandma etc did. Cook it overnight in a large roasting pan in the oven. Since I live off grid I actually use my gas grill, with a paver over grid set to lowest temp on the 2 outside burners to do apple butter. HINT : for a wonderful flavor during last part of the process i put soaked wood chips wrapped in foil poke holes in foil to add hint of smoke flavor. I have also added apple brandy, regular brandy etc in place of some of the liquid. It turns out great

Years ago my family had an elderly gentleman friend who made his own apple butter, but he did it on a wood burning stove, which is how he cooked all of his food because he didn’t have an electric stove (and didn’t want one). I LOVED his apple butter and the store bought stuff just doesn’t taste as good. Thank you for your video!

Apple butter actually relieves my menstrual cramps and helps make my periods much more bearable. Go figure. Maybe it's the spices. My gynecologist doesn't believe it, but my husbands do. I ordered a canner today thanks to your recommendation. I ordered the small one that only steam cans. When watching tube I learned to can meatloaf. After doing so I also learned that canning meatloaf is not safe as it’s possible the process will not go completely into the center of the loaf. Any thoughts on that? My full cans sit in my storeroom as I am afraid to eat them , yet hate to waste the food. But I have not read anything that gives me the proof they are safe to eat. The canning books say only to can ground meat, or small meat balls. ,
@carol-thriftychichousewife62315 жыл бұрын
Norma Spande hi! I’m glad to hear you ordered your canner, so exciting 😍. As for the meatloaf, I agree it’s questionably safe to eat. I’m not one for wasting food but I’d also be afraid to eat it. It makes me so mad to see what people share on social media as safe for canning. I also made things I saw others make only to find out it wasn’t safe. Now I confirm everything before I can it and use only trusted recipes. I can’t tell you what to do with your meatloaf but I’d be afraid to eat it 😞. It’s just not worth the risk. Hugs and blessings to you 🥰

Have a serious question just watch a lady can pineapple upside down cake. She did pint wide mouth jars added pineapple ring and cherry filled the jar halfway with cake batter and cooked. When they came out she put lids on and said that they would seal and be shelf stable, is this true?
@carol-thriftychichousewife62315 жыл бұрын
Desire Love great question and I would say absolutely not! First of all baking in canning jars is NOT recommended. You can confirm this on the Ball/Kerr canning products website. Secondly, safe canning must include using tested times and procedures. Third, there are only 3 methods of canning deemed to be safe...pressure canning, water bath canning and steam canning. It makes me sad to know these kinds of things go on in the canning community. You are right to question. Whenever you watch a canning tutorial (including mine) you should be able to confirm the processes and procedures being shown line up with safe canning guidelines set forth by the USDA. 😊
