No, WWDC is a public event. Apple probably found it themselves. Look at the antenna gate press conference, Steve Jobs started with a parody KZbin video. MKBHD is considered a top level influencer, so companies like Apple and Samsung send him tech for free to review. Interviews with Craig is part of that. It helps promote the company.

the whole "imitators" thing was just a prolonged inside-joke about their naming (not wallpapers), calling back to Craig's first time on stage.. He kicked off a discussion of "Yosemite," by poking fun at the "crack product-marketing team" that develops their names, saying in his presentation that they stuff them in a van and traveled across the country doing drugs and coming up with names, and that they first came up with a bunch of wild names like OS X "weed" among others. Since then he has come back to that theme most years at WWDC as a way to jokingly explain the way they get their names for the next OS. Look up "The History of Apple's Crack Product Marketing Team" on KZbin, its pretty funny, and his comment this year will make perfect sense. Its also clear it has nothing to do with the wallpapers.
