Does a external DAC work with this one? I know some of these linux/android radios, like the Joyings, definately do. I mean thats the main complaint anybody has with android radios. But with a external dac, android units would be the thing to get.

Not bad for the price but sound quality is the number one reason I buy a new head unit . Must have at least 3 way mode and at the very least 4v preouts . Probably would be great for a second vehicle though.

Nick, Great video. I have never heard of Atoto. You seem to be sold on the product. I know your busy but how is the Kartesian build coming along? Any idea of when you will be talking about it?

For the price, if you're just using Android auto or Apple carplay it does a great job. I would like to compare it sometime to a more expensive pioneer or something just to see the main differences. As far as the Cartesian build I'm just waiting on a few parts. Once they come in I should be ready to go. Hopefully I'll have the guitar amplifier done this week. Next week at the latest. I ran into a few issues with it.

It looks very laggy at 0:40 but as long as it's not slow when using apps then that's forgivable. Wonder if this has time alignment as my current head unit that's about the same price has better EQ and Time Alignment and plenty of crossover options. (Adjustable highpass for speakers and lowpass for subwoofer) I'll eventually get DSP so that's not a necessity but it'd be nice to have. I use USB and it mentions big microSD support. But I wonder if the User Interface for USB is usable. Stock head unit in my Equinox it's abysmal to change to another folder. In my Buick Regal with my aftermarket head unit (AVH-200EX) it takes no time to switch to any folder. If this is slow like the Equinox then I personally see it as pointless to have a USB for music as laggy UI makes it more dangerous forcing you to look at it longer.

If you move the display real slow like I did for the review then you can see some type of lag. But it's not anything that's an issue using it at real speed. They still have some adjustable low pass for the sub, but it doesn't have time alignment and better eq. This definitely wouldn't be used with someone that is going for high-end car audio sound. Unless of course you're going with a fully active system in which the head unit is just really being more of a display than anything else.

There is a USB on the side that you can plug up storage data to. As well as the micro SD card reader. But the USB cable itself that interface is designed just for Android auto or Apple carplay.

Yeah they have some Linux based models and some Android models. I'm really just a fan of the Linux base models. I just checked, looks like they're sold out of the 10.1 in screen. That's the buy link that I bought mine from. They should be back in stock soon. It starts up within seconds. And if you shut your car off and turn it back on within so much time it will going to more of a sleep mode, so basically starts up instantaneous.

Radio? No. I will stream it. As far as the UNIT's like this? I am STILL waiting for Pioneer to just realse a cable so I don't have to build one so I can remote mount the faceplate. And have all the electronics , wires and hardware in a better place besides the Dash. I like the look of the unit I got. But the fit and finish and the things that you really look for in a quality unit are somewhat missing when it comes to the hookups but those can be easily remedied. What is much harder to deal with is the fact that getting parts for some of these units is almost unobtainable. I got the MP5 Unit and love it. I love it even better that it was only $35 bucks shipped to my door with a 10 inch screen. Does the USB Mirror, and works really well with my older android phone. Perfect in fact most of the time. Uses Windows CE from what I can tell. Really? I like the unit you featured. Its just missing the Port and Polish. And that's fine. 10 Inches for a DISPLAY has been the dream for years. I used and android tablet for a LONG time with my Pionner deck, and an Asus Chromebook Flip for the Full and the FULL 10.1 Inches . I got use to the Display being with no buttons, but I do like having them. Better to just have a Bluetooth eternal one or the steering wheel controls. The Problem that you can't stream even KZbin movies in mirror mode is WACK! I can do this with my windows laptop but not in chrome? WUT GIVES? (There are Workarounds) I have to admit. If you are an S.Q guys these days? You don't really need a Headunit. And as nice as Bluetooth calls are? I hardly ever use it. Rather just have the Earpiece. When I do? It's to be on hold. :-) The cool thing about today is that all you really need is the display. Unless you are Pioneer? Offer all these DSP goodies, AND you can DETACH THE SCREEN? AND a great display at that? Then that option for the Flagship is about $1200 out the door. I'm not willing to put a Lock around my car at night so I went with option B. But I still love playing around with the controls. So really? Headunits are just for fun these days. As far as SQ? Long term 25 years down the road? Its going to be PRETTY hard to beat the old units. But even today? Who uses CD's anymore? Maybe when you really want to demo your system. But for most people? Its just a Nice centerpiece. Everything you could dream of doing you can do with your phone or tablet. Windows CAR PC/s really lost out man. It was the PERFECT PLATFORM. Still is in many ways. There is nothing that can touch it for flexablity.

when using these cheap amazon head units with full amplified system (AKA using the rca's for speakers /subs) they all suffer from massive engine noise when running and speaker bumps when turning off. i even tried installing power filters and still horrible. worked well for wireless android auto but fighting engine noise and the holy scary speaker bumps when turning off and not just one its like 8 bumps avoid at all costs for amplified systems!!

The S8 is nice if you want the Android operating system. One thing I found with the S8 that didn't like though is that it wouldn't play a lot of the videos that I had on apps. However it does play stuff off hard drives pretty well. And it has a lot more options to add screens in the back. As far as Android auto goes, they're pretty much same thing. So it really depends on what you want to do with the unit. The S8 has a lot more options.

It looks slow when I am intentionally moving it slow for camera purposes. But 0:42 shows real life speed. It is pretty quick when using like you normally would. There are faster, but I wouldn't call this laggy or slow.

@@maynellrodrigues9862 yeah. I've tested quite a few. Pretty much any of the Android based ones are not worth it. You really need to get a Linux based one for it to be decent. At least in my experience, the android-based units I've had are very laggy. They supposedly offer a lot more, but the usability of those features and functions are suspect at best.

In general, the AM/FM part isn't my favorite. But I also don't listen to the radio anymore. I'm more of bluetooth audio, podcast guy. If you still really use FM radio a lot, it's probably not the head unit for you. The FM radio part is cumbersome in my opinion.
