If "masterclass" means watch a lady chop some apples into water while prattling about the great and secret things she knows about then this is a masterclass. Where does the first scoby come from? How is the decanting done? What can go wrong and how do you handle the unexpected? Good grief. Thumbs way, way down.

I first saw this lady with Stephen and David of ‘The Happy Pear’ and have admired her easygoing, professional approach ever since. I got two SCOBYs from my first batch of ACV after following April’s method and they are still alive and working away beautifully, thank you soooo much. 🐢

I have been making Apple Cider Vinegar for a few years now. About 2 weeks ago I started 4 gallon jars and 4 half gallon jars of apples and apple cores. Added sugar and water to everything as I usually do. All but 2 are looking great. However, 2 of my gallon jars have turned to a cloudy “milky” white. This harkened about 3 days ago ( about 1 1/2 weeks in). What would cause this? Will it still be good? All the others are cloudy but you can see through them. I’m getting ready to strain apples off Sunday. I would be happy to share a picture with you if that helps. Any ideas would be helpful.

So timely. The last five days I have researched ACV, the benefits, the production process, chemical aspects, a flood of information. I am curious, inspired and well armed to set forth on my journey. Thank you for sharing this. Blessings.

I really love her videos and the simpleness of it all. Sometimes fermenting instructions can be so overbearing. Question: where do you store all these ferments without cross contamination?

So a week in I noticed white and green spots of mold beginning to form on top of apples on the surface. Should I scoop it out and salvage what I can beneath or just toss and start over in a clean jar?

@@ilovecookingireland From west cork myself but living in the US in ohio right now. Makes me miss home that even more that I cannot just pick up one of Aprils amazing looking "Scoby". ACV super new to me, using for digestion issues.1) I was just wondering when looking at other recipes I note that they do not add any scoby, they simple let the scoby grow from just apples and sugar and water. Could you clarify if I need a scoby ? if so can you get one from a apple cider purchased in a store like bragg that has the " mother " .? and lastly if I was to add the scoby like April did , after the 3 months or so should I keep the scoby for the next batch or is a new one required ? Thanks for your help if you can. Only came across " I love cookingireland today for the first time. Been over here about 1 year. 25 year old cork fella, never found myself baking or cooking before, but with extra time on my hands and my missing of home have taken up baking and cooking for the first time and your page looks beyond class. Came across A patrick ryan sourgough recipe , I look forward to stalking your page for things like this and pat ryan recipes. Will be the recipe book and base for my new found love and challenge . Thanks from Ohio.
