For those who don’t get the India part: it’s a part of Buddhist culture. India is a popular destination for making a pilgrimage to a holy place, and it’s considered a very enlightening journey. I believe there’s Buddhist folklore about men traveling to India, but I can’t remember the story off the top of my head. Regardless, it’s meant to mean “I don’t want to be enlightened, I’ll stay home instead” or something to that effect.

It's a shame that he kinda fucked up that part, though. The original Japanese version translates to "Even after arriving in India, there's nothing there", which implies that even after making that journey, there was no reward for it in the end, whereas Will just kinda half-assed it with his translation, changing the meaning quite a bit in the process. Though he rarely puts effort into his lyrics either way, so.
@meiyagii5 жыл бұрын
A S To be fair, when translating lyrics for a cover, it’s really hard finding a balance between accuracy and rhythm. Directly translating a line and just cutting it down so it fits the verse doesn’t always work, and you have to use some creative liberties in order to keep it from not sounding too jarring. Japanese to English is particularly bad at converting cleanly, given how short phrases in Japanese can have large meanings in English, and vice versa.

The “India’s lame” line was originally translated to “Went to India but there was nothing there.” It means a journey/struggle with no reward. Of course, Will couldn’t put the original line into the song, because then it wouldn’t rhyme and it would sound weird

I feel this this is something poetic nonetheless, in the Japanese version it emphasizes on t"rying so hard but going nowhere", while in this one it's just "not trying at all". Trying and not trying result in the same thing. "Nothing" It dosnt matter if you try or dont try, the result will still be the same.

I'm a big fan of pinocchiop -- probably my favorite Vocaloid composer right now -- but I wasn't the biggest fan of this particular song when it came out. Like all of his work, the lyrics were very powerful, but I didn't connect with the tune. So, for the past two years, I've pretty much ignored it. But your cover completely changed my opinion on the song. The lyrics are so well written and so powerfully performed that this version struck me harder than the original. It felt like I was listening to it for the first time, and I fell in love with it *hard*, like I so often do with new pinocchiop releases. I think that the desperate, blunt rhythm and meaning behind the song works incredibly well in English, especially in tandem with the new metaphors the lyrics introduce (I'm in love with the line "debts pile up like the fruits ever red", an image that isn't there in the original but is so catchy that I can't stop thinking about it). Most covers just throw the lyrics into Google Translate and hope for the best, but the person responsible for the translation for this and your other covers obviously puts so much care into the lyrics that they become a unique piece of art unto themselves. I adore this version of the song, and it made me return to the original with a new understanding and a new appreciation for it. I discovered you recently after the Almighty Algorithm recommended your English cover of Love of Love by Love for Love, and I'm completely boggled by how well you perform so many different kinds of songs. You deserve so, so much more recognition. I selfishly hope you continue to cover pinocchiop because your voice perfectly captures the upbeat-but-melancholy nature of his work, but even still, I'll look forward to whatever song you release next.

A good vocaloid cover, depression and APPLES?! My favorite things! Jk But this really slaps. I love this one and the Silver one. This song is basically when everything goes so wrong you just laugh at life because there is nothing else you can do. Sometimes it's better to laugh
