My own overly-analysed take on the song is that it's about Gensokyo itself, or rather the role it serves in conserving the last remnants of the supernatural and mystical as Humanity begins to rapidly rationalise and empirically study the world around them. In a world of Science and Reason, people no longer need to explain odd phenomena away with stories and legends that (from their perspective) make enough sense to ponder for a moment and then stop worrying about. The White or Yang represents Order, as people begin to understand more about their universe and how it functions on a mechanical level the mysteries of life are laid bare before them. A system develops, and anything that doesn't fit in (rationalised away as abnormalities, errors, etc) is confined and restrained pending further study. The Black or Yin represents Chaos, the state of lacking understanding or contextual frameworks necessary for myths and superstitions to be born from. At best these folkloric tales and fables are considered quaint reminders of Mankinds past and the cultures/religions that were built around them/shaped by them, at worst though this Chaos is thought of as pure ignorance of facts and logic, a dogmatic rejection of the new intellectual framework within which Humanity now prospers. Deep down, however, a nugget of truth remains in each of these tales and parables, if not something tangible or objective then at least a common thread or observation buried deep within the inefficient but entertaining anecdotes.

Same. I used to feel like that when I first heard this song, and it became a very important song to me. Then a friend of mine introduced me to Pop'n Music, and this song is actually in Pop'n Music with Reimu as the rival character. I ended up associating Reimu with this song after playing it in Pop'n Music so much, and then I got into Touhou and now I'm training to become a shrine maiden myself and my mood is so much better! This song single handedly turned me into a shrine maiden! It's not easy being a shrine maiden, but it's a very fulfilling purpose to work towards. With enough focus, dedication, and patience, anything is possible!

It’s about well placed breaths. And I’m sure they most likely edit their music heavily. So you won’t hear them taking that gasp for air.
