This happened to me. I was in tears the entire time. My former in laws never went to the hospital. They would call me and demand to know why their son wasn’t available to help his younger sister move. Not once did they do anything kind. They were abusive to my husband ( actually all their adopted children; biological children were treated much better) when they were children. My in-laws demanded any money that came in as they would need it. I asked if they were going to pay for the funeral, they said “absolutely not” in a very angry and loud voice while calling me horrible and vile names. That was the last time I ever saw them. They were even drunk at the funeral which took place at 11:00 am. My husband deserved better. Today would be his 59th birthday. I still miss him now.

It depends on the will and state law. In GA, if there is no will, the spouse automatically gets 1/3 of the estate. The law also doesn't allow for the spouse to be disinherited - again an automatic 1/3 must go to the spouse even if the will says they get nothing.
@rogerrabbit80 Жыл бұрын
@@jameygroves8561 Unless there is a valid pre- or postnuptial agreement stating otherwise. There's a lot of complicated stuff involved, depending on the state. New York law says 1/3 or $50,000, whichever is greater, unless there's a valid pre- or postnup, and the spouse only has 6 months to file a claim to their share if the will states otherwise. Community property states, the spouse is entitled to 1/2 of the marital property, just like in a divorce. Again, unless there's a prenup or postnup. Like so many legal matters in the US, it's complicated.
@diamondjim7560 Жыл бұрын
@@rogerrabbit80 To a point. You are referring to persons that die intestate, e.g. without a valid legal will. A will can assign the remaining estate as the person choses. While a pre-nup is usually valid in many states, post nuptial agreements are iffy from state to state. Just like all life maintenance, it is imperative that adults regularly check and update their wills, life insurance, property debts. Lifestyle changes and, well, shit does happen.

The only day I didn't go and see him was a day that I knew other family members were going to be there. Hey Gloria, the will and state law determines how the estate is disbursed. The probate court will see to that, not you. A common clause in many wills is that anyone with a claim to the estate that challenges the will loses that claim. Edit: the only state I know of that has no statute of limitations is Virginia and only for felonies.
@rogerrabbit80 Жыл бұрын
There is also something called "tolling", where the clock on the statute of limitations stops, usually because the accused has left the state. So if someone robs a bank in California and leaves the country, then returns 7 years later (California statute of limitations for major felonies being 6 years), they can still be prosecuted. BTW, Maryland and West Virginia have no statute of limitations for any felony. South Carolina and Wyoming have no SoL for ANY criminal prosecution.

The audacity to accuse Audrey of not giving her husband enough support when Gloria and Bob never even set foot in the hospital is just crazy!! The ruddy nerve! Obviously Audrey needed to keep working to, you know, pay bills, buy food for her and her child, and probably keep the health insurance from her job so Derek could continue to get treatment. Like, der🤦🏼♀️even someone with half a brain would be able to understand that! I am SO glad Derek thought ahead and made sure to leave his money-grubbing parents with absolutely nothing but debt and a house in negative equity, that is the very least they deserve! And for them to cause a scene at their own son's funeral by Gloria slapping their DIL is just about the lowest of the low, and proof positive that Gloria is just trash. I would have had to go one little step further and printed transcripts of the text conversation to hand out at moments notice "Cruel Intentions" style. 😈

For once, I’d love to see someone go from 0-100 and tear into a MIL in one of these stories within the first few minutes. That would be so satisfying, rather than being wimpy and letting a MIL talk a lot of trash in the beginning.

I was living with my husband and father-in-law. During the 14 years I've been married to my husband, my father-in-law began to trust me and would allow me to go grocery shopping for them. As soon as he noticed what I was able to buy, he looked and said "How did you know these were my favorite?" My response: "You told me so last year." He also did this thing with his hand, and I chuckled and told him "Sorry. That thing you did with your hand reminded me of what I saw on Hell's Kitchen season 4 episode 3." I showed him that, and when he saw it, he just laughed and said "the things my hand gestures remind you of." Another time when I was playing Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, I was playing as Sindel and he saw his I was playing and said, "I see what you're doing. Opening with a fireball to knock your opponent back, then using her scream to stun and following up with an uppercut." While he was dealing with back issues, my husband and I took over dog duty so he could rest, and I called and set up an appointment with his chiropractor. I fed the bunnies, too. He said, "I feel bad for not being able to do anything, but you've been a great help." At Christmas, he saw that I was pulling out all the stops. While I was cooking, my father-in-law said "You could give Gordon Ramsay a run for his money." To which my husband said, "Not just him. Duff Goldman, too." After he died, I basically did what my mom described as "grabbing the bull by the balls, running with it and rolling with the punches." My cousin-in-law admitted he underestimated me, but now knows I'm not stupid. My mother-in-law praised me for being cool under pressure. I was praised by his friend, for my resourcefulness.

I've always wondered why they say "I'll never forgive you " when they should say "I forgive you HOWEVER there are consequences for what you did and you have to pay them "..A much better lesson about being the better person.

Good afternoon all, not gonna lie yesterday (post Mini-Shot Game) was awful, honestly I’m still drained from it. So awful MIL aside, I ask you to find something that makes you feel better, the same rule applies as usual: food or drink, hot or cold. The only requirement is that it be something that makes you feel better after a crappy day. I’m going to my default cuppa, but play your way and be happy. Cheers ☕️ Stay safe, hug your furbabies and thank you all so much for always lifting my spirits 💙🐱💙

If there was a mortgage on the house most banks would have mortgage insurance. There is a statue of limitation which is usually 2 years. Credit card debt of a dead person can’t be passed on to others.

Gloria: If it were me, I would even go into debt just to that I could be at his side during his time of need. Why aren't you willing to do that for him? Uh...probably because if nobody's bringing in money there's no insurance to help pay for anything, let alone any money to pay the bills for the roof over their heads.

Gloria saying that single mothers are a "shallow, stupid breed of human"... What the hell do you think, lady? Girls can just pop out the cooter with a kid and no baby daddy in sight?! A lot of the time, a woman becoming a single mother is NOT the woman's fault.

Legally the only thing that they are responsible for is the credit card and the house if they are taking over the mortgage. The only thing the court would do is take any money that he may have had in assets if the aasets were over $60,000 ( In my state) Otherwise it would be considered a loss for the companies he owed money . The parents nor the spouse would be responsible for any debts.

Whatever money he had would have gone to his wife. That’s the way it works. In addition he could have made a will and left everything to his wife. This whole thing about his parents getting the money doesn’t really make sense.
