We just want more repairable (modular SSD etc. for example) devices that can be repaired without providing serial numbers and without having to rely on remote software calibration from the manufacturer. I have to think that the exorbitant prices on some of the parts is directly related to the "calibration" garbage, ultimately including the support staff's time in the cost. The return credit, I'm sure, is included in the cost too, to incentivise you to return the parts instead of recycling them yourself or selling them on if they're still somewhat usable. If I'm right, that just makes the serialised nonsense even worse. And, of course, the lack of readily available parts for most devices, and some parts not being available even for supported devices, is BS. Oh, and riveted laptop keyboards are the worst. I've replaced a few and it's nightmarish.

I think before being even an Apple customer on their smartphones, tablets, laptops or computers i should ask myself and look for answers and opinions on: Does it worth the price? Not really Is it becoming easier for the user to use a modern Apple computer, or just an outdated MacBook with the lid logo lighten up but repairable and still usable with macOS inside Linux virtual machines? Since personally, i'd stay daily to copy my drive in case of a failure to have an external backup. Personally, on a daily basis, i have this kind of usage: HP 15 laptop that's still new to me, a 12-year old Dell laptop, an iPad 4th generation with no cellular for drawing, and a samsung galaxy a12 phone. So, risking my money that i can barely have on a computer that can break every second with no data recovery it's a true gamble to make, so my preference is most likely to go out there, buy a second hand MacBook Air or Pro from 2010-2012 era with Intel Core i series inside, make it get cool as possible (cool in terms of cooling) and call it a day on the Apple side of things. That's just my opinion though, and if anyone interested to read the comments takes it as a lesson, good for them i suppose

I got burned bad on eBay from a seller who said the touchID was paired but when it arrived, they were clearly not paired. I am still working with the FTC to resolve the issue as I have sent the board back to the seller and they still claimed they didn't receive it. I don't understand why Apple would want their customers to have to deal with shady people instead of just offering their products. Doesn't really ring quality of the products once they leave the factory.

Just putting it out there once again, they should really issue temporary access to AST2 diagnostic suite to allow customers performing their own repairs the same ability to run required tests/configurations. This would be fairly simple as I have full access to this suite being an AASP employee. I can login and have full access to this suite even off the clock as it's tied to my Apple ID/Password associated with Apple. The System Configuration typically will time out because you have someone remotely running this request on a different network God knows where. You can run this test from anywhere as you do not need to be connected to a specific wireless network. ( Ask me how I know lol ). In order to run the system Configuration the KBB/KGB need to be entered into the repair first. Once saved you can run system Configuration and the post repair diagnostics which allows the repair to be marked complete. I've voiced this idea to some of our Apple resources but it falls on deaf ears as I can almost assure they don't want their beloved AST2 suite to be readily available for everyone.

Small edit to the last thing you said: "Do your research on what repairs will cost before... buying an apple product." Or buying any expensive tech product really. Not that anyone who really needs this advice will hear or heed it.

It would be nice to see Apple give us the calibration software so we could pair the parts on our own without having Apple do it all the time unless you need help getting the software loaded up. I don’t know if Steve Jobs had something to do with this because Apple was his company before Tim Cook took over as Chief Executive Officer. I am using a iPhone 12 Pro and it’s working great but the battery needs to be replaced but I can’t do it because IOS is programmed to disable True Tone and any other features if I were to replace the battery from a third party. If IOS had the calibration software re-loaded then I would have been able to pair the battery to the IOS without having Apple do it. I hope that Tim Cook is listening to people who use third party parts to repair Apple devices and hopefully he does make sure that the new Apple products have the calibration software pre-loaded before they’re shipped out to customers who ordered them. If that happens then we might be able to use the calibration software to pair the components to IOS and other Apple operating systems.

for what it's worth I want to point out that the M1 macbook air battery has magic pull tabs and is much much easier to remove than the older models like the intel macbook pros
@iustin1658
@iustin1658 Жыл бұрын
Even with the pull tabs, some people won't be able to even do that properly and they will most likely damage the battery in the procces ans cause a fire or them getting hurt and then will come the biggest lawsuit of all time, I think that's why apple does it the way they do, to not get sued
@GareWorks
@GareWorks Жыл бұрын
@@iustin1658 You're half-right. They're definitely doing this repair program to not get sued, but it's got nothing to do with the battery. They aren't liable for what you do on your own. No, it's because they can get the parts back from you, remove the batteries themselves, and recycle all the tops of MacBooks. It basically prints them even more money whilst charging customers, even for self-repair, out-of-pocket.

Looking at the price of quality aftermarket batteries (not Amazon and eBay specials) the price of installed Apple batteries is fair IMHO.

apples battery replacement option is a crock. my sons ipad pro 2 gen battery is almost dead. $99 to replace but you have to send it out that takes over a weeks to get. they told my son directly that they don’t feel they are repairable devices and just get a new one.

It's better, but still not perfect. Some parts are cheaper than aftermarket, but other parts still make it pointless and cheaper to buy a used replacement product versus replace the screen or main board. (Well Rossman may be a cheaper option for the board). This just seems so half assed.

Once the program takes off, however, it’ll be very great. Still wish Samsung sold parts for laptops, I wonder if the Odyssey with the RTX2060 has a better cooler and heatsink than mines with the GTX1650. And if it does: I’ll happily upgrade my base model cooling

It would be nice to think that the Self Service Repair Program was the beginning of a change for Apple, and that their products' repairability was going to change as new products arrive. From what I've seen of recent products... sadly that doesn't seem to hold true.
