Stephen, a quick question for you - I have the proper device to run this, but I live in Canada. Will changing my language to US allow me to run this without issues, especially considering it’s still in Beta mode, or is it better to just wait until December?

You should be able to run without issue, but you need to change your device language AND Siri language. But unless you think the summaries are really worth it, wait til December and you’ll get iOS 18.2 with ChatGPT integration which is even better

I updated to the BETA version and I changed my iPad from English Australia to English US, and I can’t access all of the beta features like writing tools. How do I get access to them? Is it because I changed my language after I updated?

Funny thing, I've enabled Reduced Interuptions on my Mac and it shows up on my iPhone 15 which is a device that doesn't support Apple Intelligence. Is there anything I should know or do in regards to that?

Not a fan of Apple pushing Apple Intelligence to a x.1 release, and then making you request to join a waitlist even after updating to 18.1. This will be a confusing experience for many customers.

I thought the same thing, but I’d rather most of my friends and family only start using it once it is out of beta, and presumably at some point they will enable it by default. That might mean they don’t start using it until 18.4 or later, but at least then they aren’t forced to test something that’s very much still in development.

Surprised to only have the option to "join waitlist" on my iphone after updating to 18.1 - hopefully it's a matter of hours and not days or weeks. Pretty aggravating considering the advertising of it all this time leading up to the formal release. sigh.

Yeah, in the initial betas this waitlist wasn't too long, hour at the most but we'll see now that it's publicly available.

People need to stop calling this a HUGE update. It’s not being negative to be honest and say this is a limited release and without Apple intelligence iOS 18 is pretty lackluster. Some of the features are ok at best but it isn’t the greatest thing ever. All these features can be covered in a 2 min video, honestly.

Have you set your iPhone's language specifically to English (US)? If it’s just set to “English,” it might still use your regional English settings. Also, make sure it’s the iPhone language, not Siri's. I don’t think you have to change your region, but I am not entirely sure how it works in the EU.

Instead, go to the ‘Language & Region’ settings and change the ‘Preferred Languages’ to English (US) at the top. Then, in the Apple intelligence menu, change the ‘Language’ to English (United States). This should work on UK devices, including the 15 pro/max and 16 models.
