As a mobile app developer, I need to have mac hardware to build iOS apps. I have a custom built 8700k desktop, but needed a mac for building iOS apps. So I grabbed the new i5 mac mini. Works extremely well for my use case without having to buy a 2k+ macbook pro. I only use it really as a server, so I don't really care too much about the gpu piece of it. I just want it decently fast to compile code, and it does that well! We have a couple 2012 i5 dual core mac mini's at work we use for servers, and this new one is ridiculously better.

Finally a developer's opinion around here :D. I'm looking forward to buy one for the same reason, and even that a Macbook Pro Retina Display is awesome to use, a more powerful hardware with a "bunch of savings" in exchange for the lack of a gourmet screen IS the big deal for developers. Buying Mac Mini, a good mid-entry monitor, and ergonomic pheripherials, can worth it for an office enviroment without spending almost the same on a worse macbook pro and having those thermal issues in exchange for a "awesome user experience".

The games are stored on ROMs; which is why that term is used for game files used for emulators. Ever used a Compact-flash or SD card? That's using Flash memory to store the files. USB storage devices also use Flash memory for the storage of files. See how people ended up using "memory" to say "storage space", now? Lol! Memory is a medium of storage just like optical discs and HDD. Solid State Drives are utilizing Flash memory as well.

@@IpelengMotsatsi There is no way to access the data on that mac if the machine is not booted up and the usb or ethernet are working, if the machine breaks for some reason your data is gone, even if the t2 wasn't there, the nand chips and controller are directly soldered on the motherboard, de-soldering nand chips might be possible but it also corrupts the memory (and would require using the nand's manufacturer flash program to be run on it to even work again, which would completely destroy the data, this just assumes that you also managed to move the controller, and were able to relocate all the nand chips, sometimes you even require to run a separate flash process outside the machine with a special piece of hardware). So yes, if you overcome the hardest part that is to de-solder nand and reflash it, and re-solder it into a mac without ruining everything, then the t2 might be an issue, but i don't see a point in calling t2 an issue when there are ssd soldered macs without t2 with no motherboard port to recover the info and well the info is gone.

I just bought one about a month ago to use as my recording studio machine. I run Logic Pro X, EZ Drummer, Fruity Loops and a few other standard recording packages. I use a Focusrite 6i6 interface where I run Line 6 Helix Native for guitar and bass. This replaced a PC that I was running Sonar on before. This Mac is amazing, it runs circles around the PC and is absolutely silent. I highly recommend for the uses I mention above, it is a phenomenal little machine for this stuff. And Because It Is An Apple! If you think your Mac Mini works great for what you use it for, you must be delusional, the specs say it is no good, a sh_t sandwich. If you think you enjoy working on your Mac Mini, you are delusional because the specs and price say that it is impossible to enjoy and work well. If you think your opinion is more accurate than my facts/specs just because you actually own and use one, you are wrong. Why would you buy a pre-built when you can build it yourself for less money?....and an Apple at that? Why would you own an Apple? Truly smart people do not buy products based on quality experience, Truly smart people buy products based on price alone. Truly smart people don't buy BMW / expensive cars, no. ONLY people who have extra money to spend, spend extra money on expensive cars. I get tired of people saying that I am wrong when it comes to Macs simply because their opinion is different, don't tell me I am wrong just because YOU have a different opinion or experience, different people have different priorities and wants and needs etc, and you being different than me does not make me wrong. But "everybody knows" that you should not spend extra money if you don't have to, therefore I know I am the smart one here because my money is more important than your experience. If you decide you want to "fit in" with the smart people and you want to have a good experience recording your music, build your own PC with Windows for less money. @@xureality Adding it externally is quite irrelevant. You can, but at an extremely higher cost and downgrade of form factor. I'm a student and will use the computer for basic tasks: word processing, slideshows, statistical analysis, etc. Would performing these tasks, sometimes for hours at a time, have it running at 95 degrees celsius? 2) Is there any real need to have a dedicated GPU if you don't play games on your computer? I don't play games, but will the Mac Mini's lack of GPU affect the computer's performance in other ways? Thanks so much.
@polaire8015 жыл бұрын
Some Times 1. “Heavy load” would involve programs doing prolonged calculations. Regular office or classroom usage isn’t an issue. The “heavy load” occurs most with video games, rendering videos, etc. you can monitor the performance using the Mac activity monitor app if you want to see a visual representation of the load. 2. I use Mac for work and it’s ok as-is for that purpose. I ended up adding an external gpu for games. You can see it get glitchy if you play 3D games without one.

Came with 8-GB of RAM, a 128-GB SSD, and a dual-core 2.6GHz main processor; similar to the new $799+tax model. I realize it is an old system, but considering I only need it for iMessage, it gets the job done. I must say I hate MacOS and the Apple ecosystem, but I am grateful that the Mac MIni exists -- it's a comfortable and easy method for a PC user to visit that ecosystem as needed. Even supports TeamViewer-- so I never even need to leave my Desktop PC!

I'd suggest using Anydesk instead of TeamViewer and while you're at it, you could activate screen sharing in macOS and connect to the Mac's IP address by VNC.

3:30 Having been a Windows fanboy most of my life, I bought a 2012 Macbook Pro and gave it an ssd and 12gb of ram. It's now my daily driver. The OS is much more efficient than Windows in the work-flow, largely achieved by gestures.
