Ever since the iOS 12 update My iPhone 8 Plus and iPad Air 2 both don’t work with the adapter they are both on iOS 12.1 and I doesn’t matter if i have the display zoom on or not. Sometimes I can get it to mirror on the screen but only for a few seconds and then I cuts out. Sometimes it shows up in settings>general>about but not all the time. It’s not the HDMI cable or screen. I think it has to do with the software because it worked flawlessly for the past couple years.

Basically the picture on your iPhone may look clear enough, but magnified and expanded onto a widescreen, one would need to intensify the resolution to a Higher Definition Dots per square inch. DPi.

I keep one of these in my tech travel bag, when I go to a hotel I will plug up my iPhone or iPad to the hotel TV and what whatever I want. I will also use it for productivity sometimes with my iPad. Beyond that ya, these things are kinda useless. If iOS treated this as an external second display rather then mirroring unless an app has a specific function and the latency was not so bad it would be decent, but as it is a no.

If you have a smart tv with apps already built in and the TV goes online you don’t need this. I will. I will be living in the country with no data or isp provider or cable, just my IPhone. The main thing I don’t like about this product (and most lightening cables for that matter,) is they are so short ughh. So every time I want to use the controls for pause,play, ff,rw... I need to get up and go to the TV

I have an iPhone SE 2020 edition. My TV is fairly new, supports 4K and has a built-in Apple TV Mirroring ability. I've tried some games on it, and some work fine, and others have too slow of frame rate. Has anyone compared the frame per second of mirroring to the latest Apple TV vs using this cable? Would it improve the frame rate of some games being a wired connection, vs a wireless connection with the Apple TV? Thanks.

Bought one of these-same as yours, it did not work-no image at all. Tried it on several pc monitors and two TV’s all modern with HDMI inputs. No power to iPhone or iPad via the adapter, no green charging light on iPad etc. but power from same source has a green charge indicator on iPad-iPhone. Spent half a day going through all the options, same message ‘no signal from HDMI’ The HDMI cables I tried 3 new cables, all worked fine when tested from PC to monitor. I am at the stage of taking the adapter outside and introducing it to a very big hammer.

The lag is really obvious, kind of disappointed with a wired HDMI connection. Casting dongle over wifi works quite well, supporting both Airplay and Miracast. Using Miracast on Android seems more stable, Airplay is at the mercy of the app you use: a TV app asked for paid membership and disabled Airplay. I ran the same TV app on Android and casting was no problem, no need for a paid membership either.

Make sure you got the Apple brand one. On Amazon there's this product that's clevery hidden for $20, but it's not actuallly apples official product. It's more expensive but much higher quality: Little to no lag, cord doesn't snap)

I bought this adapter like a week ago. it was working fine with iphone x to 24 inch roku tv but now it does not wanna connect. I tried the 3 hdmi ports on tv and same thing. I have to unplug the adapter or turn off tv and sometimes it works that way, but it is a hit and miss. Lightening can’t stream HDMI natively. The Lightening Digital AV Adapter has a custom SoC and kernel to convert the H264 signal coming out of the iOS device so that any device will see the signal as HDMI. However, if the app senses there is a converter between the path of the iOS device and the monitor and the app has built in restrictions then it won’t play. It’s not really the fault of Apple necessarily. However, it’s been reported that iOS 12 has either introduced a feature or bug that’s incompatible with the firmware in the adapter (which may be Apple’s fault). Essentially Apple built its own hack (the adapter itself) to convert H264 video to an HDMI signal. Apparently Apple knows about the problem, the overall quality issue, and that’s probably why there is no USB C to HDMI dongle yet. At the Apple Shareholders’ meeting at the beginning of March 2019 a shareholder asked why there was no convertor for the USB C iPad Pros and was told by Craig Federighi that one was on the way. Apparently they are trying to “hack” a better solution. Hopefully for those users a more “pure” HDMI signal can be sent via USB C (but I doubt that’s possible due to DRM). Will there be a fix for the Lightening HDMI adapter? I’m still trying to find out. Maybe Apple is working on a firmware update for the dongle or iOS. Maybe Apple has already addressed this issue with the last iOS update and I just don’t know about it yet. I myself have a lecture to give in two weeks and am depending on the Lightening HDMI adapter to work. I’ll probably bring my Apple TV as backup. If you have any further information I would appreciate it if you would respond to this comment and I will try to do the same when I know for sure. Thank you.

Trying to use the dongle for the Direct tv app, it says you are required to have direct tv now but when I contacted direct tv themselves I was told it should work. It works for every other streaming app, but as soon as I go to direct tv app it says hdmi output not supported. Now we tried a third party dongle not apple specific and it's coming up with a whole bunch of new issues. Any help please let me know.
